so my two yr old has had diarrhea for weeks and the dr. is still saying it is probably just a virus and needs to clear out, we will do a stool sample soon if it doesn't get better.

In the meantime I am changing him 5 or 6 times a day with poopy dipes. i mean almost liquid poop. he is already off milk and on probiotics.

Is there anything that would help firm his stool? I feel at my wits end trying to keep myself together and him too.

He is eating crackers, gluten free rice chex cereal, bananas and almond milk and grilled chicken.

He acts fine except the diarrhea, oh except the dr. said the little zit looking things on his legs are staph infections and he is going to have to start septra and that probably won't help his diarrhea!!

Ugh this is not fun!!!

GF crackers?? I would try rice .. black rice if you can get it.

Hope the mommies will come along soon! I'm not a mommy! [Smile]

The BRAT diet..... Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast & Tea.

Plain applesauce, no sugar, no artificial sugars!

Bactroban was the ointment the doctor had given as samples to use on Impetigo, which is a staph infection... or is it strep? (I've forgotten, sorry)

Also, our Ped. recommends avoiding dairy with stomach viruses--

Hope it gets better soon!

Kefir would help.

I make it with the starter powder, and I notice a difference when I drink it.

What about Pedialite? My kids are grown, but we use to give them Pedialite when they had diarrhea back in the day.

Poor liitle one and mom! It doesn't sound fun at all.

Agree with debilyn about Pedialite so he doesn't get dehydrated. I would find a new pediatrician!! Doesn't sound right that he is saying it's a virus for weeks and isn't concerned about his electrolytes.

Also concerned about parasites, especially since you are treating for them. You can even ask your peditrician to test him for parasites and if he resists, tell him you saw a worm in his diaper.

My thoughts are exactly those of debilyn and glm.

Your pedi sounds like a boob. Keep your baby hydrated with pedialite. More importantly, please seek another pediatrician's opinion ASAP!! I find it a bit strange that your pedi has blown this off after WEEKS of diarrhea!

And it's very concerning to me that this doc is saying your little one has staph. Do yourself a favor and get him to another pediatrician for a second opinion.

The pharmacist said i couldn't give him childrens immodium but he can take sulfamethexazole, which I don't like. He has never taken abx before. I really hate thaT I have to take them and i don't want him to take them unless absolutely necessary.

You would think they would give him an abx cream for the impetigo before orals. I'm gonna call the doc back tomorrow.

Can you get him to a different pediatrician for a second opinion?

I agree, try another doc, but also maybe look into Bentonite Clay.

I took it for weeks when I had Giardia and it really helped.

I also give it to my 12 year old regularly for detox. I don't know

what the recommendation is for 2 year olds, but it might be worth

looking into.

DO NOT give your child Immodium or any other anti-diarrheal medication unless you know for sure that he does NOT have C Diff.

A med like that would cause the C Diff to stay in his body instead of exiting and he would worsen.

Peaches, bananas and cheese. No sugar and different doctor. Do you have a LLMD?

Yay, there has been NO diarrhea today! I upped his probiotics and kept him on plain diet but her also started his abx yesterday.

NOt sure if it is diet and probiotics or if maybe he had giardia and abx helped. Would abx help giardia?? Also, I have cats, i wonder if he could have gotten something from them that abx would help.

Anyway something is helping and i hope it stays that way.

will look into bentonite clay too cause i want to try it.

I did not give him any immodium but considered it if pharmacist would ok it, but not necessary for now.

Good to hear!!

I think they use flagyl for giardia.

My dear Mom would make rice soup by just boiling rice in water with a little salt. Cook the rice in the water and strain it out.

Note: make sure you pour in enough water so that there will be enough left to give to your child to drink (cooled to just a warm temperature, not cold) once the rice is cooked and strained. My Mom would call it "glue".

I did this with my sons when they were small and, even now when they are young men, we as a family still do this when someone get diarrhea.

Follow the BRAT diet too (bananas, apples, rice toast).

Hope this helps.
