Moderators - I don't know if this topic is appropriate in "medical" - if not, please move it or let me know...

I was looking at stuff on the internet & just happened to come across this...

I lived down there for a few years, so it was of interest. I know it's particularily difficult for people living in the south to get a diagnosis or figure out what to do or if they in fact do have Lyme.

Joe Wilson: ``You Lyme!''

"You lie" Congressman Joe Wilson in South Carolina hospital

(Reuters) - Joe Wilson of South Carolina -- the lawmaker who shouted "You Lie" at President Barack Obama during a speech -- remained hospitalized on Thursday with an "extended fever," his congressional office said.

Wilson contracted Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness, after working in his yard. He is being treated at the Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina, said Eric Dell, Wilson's chief of staff.

"He's feeling a lot better today," Dell told Reuters.

Dell said he did not know how long Wilson would remain in the hospital or what treatment he was receiving.

Wilson, a Republican, shouted "You lie!" at President Barack Obama during a televised joint session of Congress in 2009 while Obama was speaking on healthcare reform.

Wilson later apologized, but recently has said his statement was justified, citing community health center grants he claims will benefit illegal immigrants.

Wilson On The Mend From Mysterious Illness

excerpt-

One thing is for certain: Ailing Congressman Joe Wilson does not have Lyme disease. In fact, doctors haven't been able to to determine what exactly has been plaguing Wilson the past couple of weeks.

But whatever mysterious viral infection or other malady that has caused Wilson to suffer a persistent fever for two weeks apparently has run its course.

-

The original suspected culprit, Lyme disease, proved to be false, he said.

"Initially I thought it was due to a tick bite," he said. "I love working in the yard. But that wasn't it."

What Wilson thought was a bite, his doctor said was simply a rash.

S.C. Senate President Glenn McConnell (RINO-Charleston) - one of the state's most powerful lawmakers - is currently recovering from a tick bite that infected him with what one source called ``a type of Lyme disease.''

Sure it's in South Carolina! We get Dr requests here all the time. There aren't any LLMDs there, however.

yes it is there. We contracted lyme in Atlanta from a tick bite and now my BFF in Florida tested positive and getting treatment. A HUGE problem in the south with very little help.

Honey, it's everywhere. What does a tick know about state lines?

Hmmm The congressman is "negative" for Lyme but knows he had a tick bite.

I'd want to know what tests his docs were using.

Welcome to the Club Mr. Congressman!

You're about to get QUITE an education in the incompetence of the medical commmunity!

Sounds like he was just bitten! Which means he's not making antibodies yet. Hope he finds Lymenet when he suffers the eventual relapse!
