I work part time and am having trouble. This has been going on since before diagnosis. I would appreciate practical suggestions.

*lateness - up to 3 hours!
*working agreed hours, even on flex schedule

My management has been very understanding.

Once I get there, I perform well.

It seems that I can work OR parent OR manage life (= cook, clean, pay bills) on any given day, but trying to mix those is a mess.

I like the people I work with. I like the sense of achievement. I need the insurance. Every day I wonder, "Why can't I just get out of bed when the alarm goes off and jump in the shower? Why is it so hard to make a lunch, get dressed, help the kids, answer that important medical email or phone call in the morning and not take 3 hours?"

I have already cut back on cleaning, socializing, cooking. Take prescribed thyroid and stimulants and have good LLMD.

There are also additional stressful things in my life that I don't want to go into - maybe I am expecting too much.

Anyway - what has worked for you? Ideas?

You say you work part time - is it possible to actually start your day later - maybe work afternoons instead of mornings?

I'm glad your employer is trying to work with you - that's a good thing!

No, it has to start in the morning. It's a 3 days/7 hrs schedule.

Maybe I need to face that more rest is needed.

I did major damage pushing myself beyond my body's abilities. (My Drs kept telling me I had "Depression" when it was really my body fighting off infection.)

Do you push yourself then crash? If so, you may be using precious energy that your body doesn't have in reserve.

Laxmom, can you describe just a little what you mean about doing damage by pushing? I read the article but concrete examples are so much easier to understand for me.

This may be one piece. But I don't understand how I can't think in the morning, but can later in the day...maybe adrenaline-assisted thinking is the only kind I feel is clear enough?

I do get incapacitated by organizing, cleaning. And very tired from smaller projects. An example -last night I needed to do dishes. I took my service dog to the park and stood up even though I shouldn't have. It's just that when I CAN stand up I get all stubborn and won't sit. Came back and was so tired but felt this impulse to do dishes. Started them and feet went numb. that might be a sign that it was too much. I am much better than a few years ago and may be pushing the improvement too much.

Unfortunately the additional stresses may be playing more of a role in this then you realize. Stress can effect us in so many ways.

If there is a way to somehow deal with and or decrease the additional stresses that may help some of what you are experiencing.

Treatment takes a toll on the body. It is a war that is being waged inside. You are going to be tired and although we all push some, you have to listen to your body. Try to rest as much as you can.
