Hi All,

Any tips for making tonic water taste a little less tonic-y?

I find the taste of crypto tincture easier to swallow.

... WITHOUT adding gin.

Oh cr@p.

I was definitely gonna say "add gin."

Lime maybe? (Bit of a waste without the gin...)

No GIN???? [bonk]

Actually, I've never tasted gin! Not even sure I've had tonic water.

Does it contain sugar?

Lymetoo, if you've never tasted gin, don't bother.
Gin's flavor is from juniper berries, which may remind one of pine scented cleaners.

The first time that I ever tasted a Gin and Tonic at a bar, I said, "This tastes like something you'd clean the floor with!"

Sorry Greta, I don't have any suggestions for you except to try different brands, as the flavor varies.
I rather like it now.

Sounds yucky!

I dilute the tonic half regular (sugar) and club soda.

I don't have yeast issues but I try to eat most of my carbs from veggies, and I HATE the idea of a sugar soda.

But my IC issues are aggravated by aspartame.

I think gin and tonic are both so gross separately that they cancel each other out and taste better together. Haha.

Sadly, any fizzy water or beverage can be caustic to the lining of our stomaach. It's best to avoid carbonated beverages, even if just fizzy water.

As for Quinine, best to get quinine as a pill or TINCTURE, just put a drop in water with a bit of stevia. You could add a touch of lemon juice.

Quinine needs to be very carefully dosed. Too much can be toxic to the ears and it's a fine line. And it may not be safe to mix quinine and crytolepis. Do ask your LLMD about that.

Ask your LLMD which might work for certain medicinal tinctures but, really, if you just put the tincture in a bit more water and drink it down, then follow with a nice cup of green tea, all is soon right with the world.

For a beverage you enjoy, all kinds of green and herb teas are fabulous.

I squeeze some lime into tonic water. I buy the Fever Tree tonic water with no sugar.

Greta .. Yeah, I was wondering WHY you were even drinking it... If it's for the quinine, get a pill! [Wink]

My tummy can't take stuff like that.

By definition, (Wiki) Tonic water is a carbonated soft drink, in which quinine is dissolved.

Can all ingredients be identified? Does it say how MUCH quinine is in each serving? Is it "real" quinine or a "flavor"?

Tonic water that you buy is usually in plastic (never a good thing even if BPA free as plastics still can leech petroleum by-products).

Also, whatever is used to sweeten can be problematic. Corn syrup is common and that can cause all kinds of haywire effects, even afterward.

"Natural Flavors" are often another name for MSG, and very excitatory and toxic to nerves. Detail:

I drink half a cup of tonic water a day and that keeps me from having muscle cramps in the night.

Thanks! I didn't realize quinine came in a tincture. Any particular brand you've had success with?
The tonic water will go with the next neighbourhood barbeque.

Talk to your LLMD first about whether or not this should be in the mix for you.

It's harder to find tinctures now but first talk with your LLMD, it's that important. Then ask for their ideas, IF they want you to include this.
