Is tylanol an anti inflam? Can u take it with ibu? Plz help

Posted by Dogsandcats (Member # 28544) on :

Take care and keep us posted when you are able!

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

It is not an anti-inflammatory. I would not suggest taking it with ibuprofen. Tylenol can be very dangerous.

This says you can:

Posted by lpkayak (Member # 5230) on :

I believe u are correct but all here insist it is anti inflam and should b taken with tylanol...they arr making me crazy

Posted by Judie (Member # 38323) on :

Tylenol is NOT anti-inflam. It masks pain.

Ibuprofen is an anti-inflam. It's an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug).

Drugs like Excedrin combines the active ingredient in Tylenol with aspirin (an NSAID) and caffeine.

Excedrin was one of the best pain-relievers when I could tolerate it.

Also NSAIDs can make you have photosensitivity (I just learned that the hard way). Stay out of the sun if you use them.

Glad you're in rehab. Sorry to hear they're driving you nuts! I agree that the tylenol isn't a good idea FWIW.

They had a meeting. My pain should be controlled by tomorrow. Hope it happens so i can go forward not backward. I feel like it is a joke to them. They get off on seeing me in pain

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Kayak told me today that she was having "weird pains" and they were making sure she didn't have a blood clot or something.

Posted by dbpei (Member # 33574) on :

Sending prayers your way, Kayak. I hope the pain and inflammation go down. Praying you do not have a blood clot.

Ditto to above info that ibuprofen is anti-inflammatory but Tylenol is not. For some reason, docs and nurses like to recommend tylenol to control the pain. Motrin or ibuprofen help with inflammation (and reduce pain as a result).

She told me last night that they started the PT again so she must be OK. She said they didn't TELL HER she was OK, but she is "going with it."

Ip, keep arguing with them. This means you are getting well. If this was a spa setting, you and everyone else wouldn't want to leave. Just about the timeyou want to stomp out of there because of the food or meds or whatever issues, that is the time you will be released to home. Hang in there!

HI Kayak, just checking in on you. How are you doing? glad you are getting some pain relief. uhhhg.rehab food.

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Kayak.. good to hear from you!! Keep after those folks!!

As for the body movements, you are not getting your usual supplements! The most likely reason!

All drugs deplete magnesium, so there is another problem. Even the anesthesia depleted you of many nutrients.

So that on top of lousy processed food = YUCK!

Take care, we'll keep praying! [Smile]

Posted by sammy (Member # 13952) on :

Hi Kayak, I've been following all of your updates, thinking of you and praying for you often.

Rehab is tough, it is certainly not home. I hope that you can heal quickly and regain your strength so that you can get back home soon. It's hard not being able to do all your normal things and care for yourself as you like.

Keep up with the positive attitude to get you through. You've only got a little more to go, each day you get stronger and closer to home.

Thx for replys. I never got pain meds right and exhausted myself trying so they wouldnt let me do therapy. That made me cry but then i called my son and told him to call whos in charge and tell them i am paying a lot of money to improve here and their excellent therapy dept cant do anything if nursing doesnt. Get the pills in me

In short time a new nurse was here...she caught up pills...put on mmy blod clot sox that werr 6 hrs late. Ihad excellent therapy hr

Back in room i just collapsed. I didnt think about pills. Nuse came in quiet twice and gave them to me...she was so on top of it i didnt feel i had to keep track

I really rested...ate...no comment...and will finish up laundry and early bed

At one point morning nursr sort of yelled me saying it was my fault i had asked 3x for mylanta cuz the floor director had been speaking with her for an hr-i guess about me-but then she was gone

An np and doc also came in

It feels good to trust the nurse will give the meds right...really hope it stays this way

Im real tired now but wanted to let u knoe. Talk soon

Sorry you've had to fight for pain meds, LP. Brilliant strategy re. your son! Hope the nurses keep on top of the meds--and stop yelling at you. Good luck with PT. Healing and strengthening wishes!

[woohoo]

Welcome back, bro!!

Posted by lpkayak (Member # 5230) on :

hi don...glsd you're back

im in the family room using their computer...i dont know thei keyboard...

really hard but good day. 3 nurses in a row were trustworthy...tonihgt a little shaky again

i had to be a pain today too...but the PT stuck up for me before and after therapy-and it worked

i having to learn to walk using only the leg surgery was done on...and very minimal use of other leg so i dont ruin it b4 it gets replaced.

the thinking part was hard for me to get...after a surg like this the last thing you feel like doing is walking ont the leg that had surgery. i am getting it tho.

instead of passive range of motion machine they have me on one where i have to work and will make muscle. it is like a recumbant bike and i hope it will get my gi tract moving too

it was sad in PT when i saw ppl who i swear have lyme and they are ignoring the lyme sx-like severe headach-and pushing these pple to do stuff...i rarely had headaches but i had a best friend with lyme with headaches and i saw what she went thru and heard on here about all the problems...i willl keep my mouth shut tho and mind my business,,,this is not the place...

OH...guess what the doc in charge of my unit is a NP. we have met a few times because of the problems. i know i drove him nuts at first but he really handled it well. i could see right away he was pretty smart.

so after a long talk and me picking his brain about leaky gut and other stuff...esp gi and bowels...i asked him if tylanol is an anti-inflammatory like my surgeon insisted it was. the NP said no adn began to explain to me the difference betweee antiinflams and tylanol...which is what i already know but every nurse and aide in this place will insist tylanol is an inti inflam. they were all taught that.

what ever. i like this np and he told me his boss(who taught him) had a private practice in my town so i plan to change to him for my primary

i napped inbetween therapys but seem to have a second wind now.

im looking forward to tomorrow ... thank you guys for beiing here for me thru all of this

Hi Lpkayak,

I am sorry to see you have had to struggle while you are in rehab, but I'm so glad you've been asking questions and advocating for yourself!

Wow- those people sound crazy! To not even have a basic understanding of Tylenol and Ibuprofen?

I hope you get stronger quickly and get to go home soon.

Thinking of you today...praying for a steady, forward, recovery.

Posted by lpkayak (Member # 5230) on :

Ty. Ive tried all night to give nurse benefit of doubt...but i swear shes a control freak...she apologizes for being late. Ptomises a time for nrxt pill..then comes late again. Its like torture

And then she put on gloves, changed the bandage, then took off the gloves to use her nails to get tape cuz.she did it wrong. Wheni asked the aide if it was ok she found a two in sspace that was open

All of this is mmotivating. Me so much in therapy...it scares. Me here-i want to go home...but it would be really hard now

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

I'll come back tomorrow for more comments, kayak! Sounds like you are making progress! So happy that you will have a good Dr when you get home!

Keep after those nurses! [Big Grin]

i had another productive day and i am very tired and sore. again i am in family room and using their computer.

what happened is the surgeon changed orders and saaid it was ok for me to use left leg (the sone that still needs surg) until now i supposed to work the leg that had surgery without using the good leg...IT WAS HARD!!!

i finally got the hang of it and was building up(or destroying) my upper body when doc changed order. now most is easy...but i have worked really hard when on many meds

i have myoclonus pretty bad. in reading about it it can come from many drugs and mixing drugs and also anesthesia

since i can use the other leg and every thing will be easier i am going to start cutting back on the meds i take by choice-starting with the ones you can get addictive to.

this answer isnt perfect...cuz i will be huring the leg that still needs surg and that can make the chance of success much lower...but i will get home sooner and the other problems here are pretty significant.

so if all goes well i will go home friday and sllep with etta that night

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Kayak... Don't cut back so much that you can't get your legs rehabbed the way they need to be! I understand your concern about addiction, but I doubt you will end up there.

So sorry to hear about the myoclonus. Just one more thing! Maybe when you get home you can detox better and get the drugs out of your system.

Etta will be SO HAPPY! you should get someone to tape the "homecoming" with her!

myoclonus (sorry to hear) - magnesium is one of the best remedies (PubMed even suggests that) and they may be able to give you IV or shots there. If shots, B-12 with them help take out the sting. Alone, it can really burn. But not with B-12 added.

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Kayak.. I would ask your Dr about the mag IV .. to see if it will help you. May as well while you are there.

Posted by lpkayak (Member # 5230) on :

i got another shower! i feel like i hit the jack pot

i think the problem here is it used to be rehab...now there is a wonderful rehab attached...but the nursing part where you sleep and go when not in therapy is set up as a nursing home...its hard to fit the two together...

gotta go to many therapy sessions today

Posted by daynise (Member # 39609) on :

Yay! I bet that shower made you feel so much better! Just two more days, right? You are almost there!! [group hug]

GOOD NEWS!!! i did not need any oral pain meds all night and had minimal pain. i am on fentenal patch.

i go home to morrow. in half hour my thereapy is getting in and out of car.

my pain level with patch feels like i dont need any help at home...but i will not be allowed to drive for awhile.

im not sure what it will be like to get off patch. i guess i will need orals and then have to wean off orals. hope it still goes good like this.

cant wait to see etta. i wonder if she will remember me.
