We're off to a new week. Hope you are ready to rock and roll!

Tornadoes swept through my area this morning, severely damaging a town 20 minutes from here. I was at church and watched baseball sized hail fall. I finally retreated to the church basement with the others who lingered at coffee hour.

Luckily my home and yard was not damaged, but I did spent some time picking up broken branches. My neighbors had a tree uprooted and their fence demolished.

I think the rest of the day will just be windy and the cold air will come in.

Hope you are safe wherever you are at!

Have a great week.

yes glad you are safe. my son is in north chicago and they said the dogs were scared and the weather crazy but they are fine

i had a good time when i went out to dinner theatre last night but i couldnt have gone a lone. my friend dropped and picked me up at the door. i walked to salad table with her and help my plate in one hand and cane in other while she filled my plate. i walked back to table and then sat for 4 hrs. it was painful but the music was so good i didnt want to get up. everything else was served to us.

this morning i was in big pain and didnt get up til 11...didnt want to then but etta insisted. i did love the music...but i think 2 hrs is tops for me to sit

i didnt get out to work on carport til late and it was raining but warm. i got a few things done. not as much as i wanted. i have a few things in the house to put away and have a helper coming tomorrow.

hope all are safe...i also have a son in northern ny...usually the storms break up by then. they say it will be windy here tomorrow but i dont think dangerous

i got up early to prepare for helper and then she called cuz her son was sick and she couldnt come.

i did a little outside...it was warm...and then realized i should go to the beach...nov 18th and 65 degrees??? no brainer

etta and i had a good time...saw a really wierd dog with very long dredlocks...forget the name. she was very sweet. etta was rude.

i walked about 15 min i think-not all at the same time and was stupid enough to forget i was on doxy and i am burned...i was actually seeking out the sun and sun bathing until i felt my bottom lip burn and swell twice its size.

i dont know what to put on it

i may do some housework tonight but im glad i went to the beach it was beautiful...big waves...high tide...nice breeze

is tutu moving now?

lpkayak--Do you have some aloe vera--that helps with sunburn.

Rushed home from work to rake my leaves and discovered a man from my church had mowed and raked. Unfortunately the back wheel of the old mower fell off just before he finished.

Able to make a hot meal for dinner tonight. Very unusual that I am able to do this.

I wanted to make an omelet but it turned into scrambled eggs and spinach and garlic.

It was good. But, I was just about in tears by the time the omelet was finished.

I was on my feet....it is difficult to reach the stove while in my power chair.

im sorry you struggle so much kam. at times i go thru similar stuff.

i do have aloe...i was using it on my scar. ty.

kayak.. sorry I was unavailable today!! I was working on Operation Christmas Child all day. I was going to go to the wrapping party tonight but I was DONE IN. Especially my FEET!

We managed to pack 43 boxes .. Church folks donated 33 and we had extra goodies, then bought more and added another 10 boxes.

I missed out on a chance to be on TV. I showed up in early afternoon at the collection site to RETURN EMPTY (extra) boxes. The kids (college kids) got all excited when I drove up because they thought I was bringing COMPLETED boxes!

OOPS!! Kinda embarrassing! I was just as disappointed as they were! The director knows me so I didn't feel totally weird! [Big Grin]

Anyway, the TV crew was there to film people bringing boxes in. I would have been bringing them, but had to get my car empty so I could bring them!

Tiny problem, I didn't have time to get them delivered...so will do that tomorrow.

So.. that's my day in a big nutshell! [Smile]

I will report on the moving saga tomorrow. [Frown]

Tuesday-No exercise, haven't been home yet. Here at work putting in my 4 hours.

Sunday we sold over $900 during the yard sale! Yay! I see an end in sight. Next Sunday is our last 50% off yard sale and then we'll wrap it up.

Then from there I'll go over on Sundays and get my Mom's house ready to sell.

Hiker-Thank you for starting this week's thread. Sounds like you all had some really bad weather!

Kayak-Dinner theater sounds like so much fun. I'd love to do something like that myself. One of these days........

Kam-I love omelets! I used to make them quite often.

TuTu-Let us know how the moving goes.

See you all tomorrow!

vision is blurred this am so not able to read what others wrote.

A physical therpaist is coming to my home this am.

Sure hope my health can handle it.

I also am not sure how this works mney wise. I assume meidcare will pay 30% and I will need to pay 20%.

Typing with eyes closed so may be type.

I just spent was I hadleft in chcking for the month on food.

Had to cancel paying elec bill this month again. I pay it after the 3rd but have alate fee then.

I took 2 excedrin yesterday . It helped me get to the gorocery store with the new caregiver.

I lasted much longer than normal. I sually spend about $60 at the store. I spent $120 instead.

I don't know how long I lasted at the store. I know I usually need to get in and out in about 15 min.

So, wondering whether to take a couple of excedrin this am to help me while the PT guy is here.

Sometimes the excedrin helps adn sometimes ti doesn't now.

Since I have been awake an hour and a half laying in bed this am...guessing I will take some as brain is still not clear enough to get up.

I am ramping up buhner herbs so maybe i am herxing some

I used a cart to get a few things at food store but it really wore me out-also did dishes, washed out some plastic containers to use for packing and i am working at replacing broken showerhead...i have an old one soaking in vinegar

Wednesday-Didn't squeeze in any exercise today. Vacuumed, dusted, wiped down bathrooms, did 2 loads of laundry and made creamed chicken for dinner tonight. At work putting in my 4 hours.

Did quite a bit of filing today so on my feet here too.

Found out today that we're having our company Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow so I've got to run to the store for something to bring. Hopefully they have something easy to fix or already made.

Kayak-Last week was really slow but I think over all we've been fortunate. This Sunday is supposed to be the last yard sale. Wish I could have went to the ocean with you. I like going in the winter, not so crowded. Really helps me to put things in perspective when I see how ginormous the ocean is.

Kam-My vision is blurry off and on too. I wear glasses but sometimes they don't help at all. I'm sending you a cyber hug! [group hug]

See you all tomorrow!

Ablel to read ALW post. It put a smile on my face. Good to read about what you were able to do.

Met with at home physical therapy person. I had to cut it short. The brain can't handle the questions.

He sent me an email saying he wasn't sure PT at home was going to work out for me as medicare will just cover 6 visits and I need much more.

Sent one back saying if he could just get me started with some things I can do, it would help.

I don't know. Maybe it would be better if I did go across the street to the Physical Therapy Place.

not sure how i got on track with in home PT ..I guess because my doc's asst called the regional medical center here asking them to see what they could do thelp me.

Oh kayak--Doxy in the sun! Oh no!

Sorry you are having such a hard time Kam.

I ended up in the wheelchair again today. Totally wiped out. Probably stress from my daughters moving away. My goal is to try walking.

Thursday-Whew, I'm wiped out! Came in to work at 12 supposedly just to eat lunch then come back at 3. Well, I ended up working hard at setting up our Thanksgiving dinner here at work with 2 other co-workers. Then me and another gal did the clean up afterwards.

My plan for the rest of the work day is to just answer the phone and sit here. At least that's the plan. [Roll Eyes]

Kam-Why the PT? You ok?

Sheila-Stress can make everything worse. Hope you get to see your daughters real soon.

See you all tomorrow!

AKL.. Kam is not very mobile and I imagine she needs some "body work" to improve such things! [Smile]

Kayak.. very sorry to hear that you have been crying. I would cry too if I found any ticks. [Eek!]

thx tutu. i have for sure been worse but today is 4 weeks since i took the last pain pill and started going down hill.

before that i was walking with the walker 3 times a day...20-30 min each time. it wore me out. but i did it.

now i can barely stay on my feet 3-5 min. i have been pushing cuz the pt says i just need to make my muscles stronger...but it doesnt make sense...i was doing so much. and now i just cant.

last night i slept well(yea!) and got up late and was slow to move but then drove 1/2 hr to where there was a sale on shoes. pt says i need new ones cuz i wore out the old ones wrong for my new knee.

i dont shop often. the last pair of shoes (not sneakers) i bought was 0ver 10 yrs ago. except the ones i bought for the wedding...that i never wore again. and probably wont.

and i went to this outdoorsy place where quality is really good and prices reasonable. and there was a sale on shoes -esp clogs and mules like i need now. it took awhile to find what would fit...i still need bunion surgery so it is hard to fit me. i found 4 pair...3 on sale...one not. i couldnt decide. i bought them all. but i can return them. they are all different...one inside slippers. grey wool mules. brown clogs. (i have black ones that are still good from 10 yrs ago.) and another pair of pull on soorta boots...but very low like shoes. they were the most comfortable but will be for everyday...like sneakers...theyre kinda ugly...but i dont really care. they feel so good.

then home...about 1/2 hr of daylight so took 3 loads to garage of garden stuff. i wanted to sweep carport but just couldnt stand up long enough. i was able to pull truck in enough so it wont get full of snow tonight.

so all that walking was my exercise. i hope i can do more picking up of house by staying in wc tonight.

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Very glad you bought some shoes. I hope they work out for you! Did your PT say that clogs are OK for you?

I've worn the same pair of sneakers every danged day for the past two years now. I plan to buy new ones as soon as I can get to the store. I think I will splurge and buy two pair!

I hope you feel better tomorrow!! [Smile]

ive actually been doing laundry and dishes and i tried to make baby christmas cactuses from my big cactus that bloomed last month?!?!

i still get tired standing but it seems im standing longer. i took dr m's ubiquinol today and yesterday...i wonder if it could work this fast

my old clogs have really good arch support and that was what i looked for. i have been walking on carpet and not sure if i will keep all of them...they dont feel so good after awhile...but i am up such a short time im not sure...

i'll see what happens tomorrow

our weatherman said it was warmer here (40s) than in texas!

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

I was asking because mules and clogs make my feet hurt even more.

Yes, it's cold in Texas. They may have it worse tomorrow than we do in MO. It's been raining there and it will freeze tonight in TX.

Not a good mix!

Like most with Lyme exercise went right out the window when it hit. A few months before I got sick I was in a local thrift store and I found a rebounder, a really good one for only $20. I snatched it up, but alas didnt use it .... until now!

My husband exclaimed that no matter how bad I felt I had to get up and move some... and there was that rebounder staring me in the face...

I've worked up to 10 minutes a day, being careful not to wait till other activites of the day already tired me out. I think its a good thing even if you can only do a couple of minutes. If you have oxyen at home by chance, put that on too. (search EWOT therapy)

Here's an aricle I wrote for a mag a while back about the rebounder:

Rebounding for Health

So you’ve got the great diet now! Been to the Naturopath, talked to the nutritionist. Started raw foods, making your own green juices, delighting in grass fed organic meats, eating lots of wild fish and taking your expertly selected supplements. But you still feel down and out?

Try exercise! All the good nutrition in the world will not prolong your life and provide good health if you don’t get up and shake it around!

Now, good nutrition has limited results unless you use your body the way nature intended. Back in the old days people had to work for a living. I mean really work. Not press keys at a computer, shuffle papers around or walk from one boardroom to another. I mean work. Unthinkables like tilling the field, digging the rutabagas, washing the clothes by hand, grinding the corn. You know. All those awful tasks that we, thank God, don’t have to do anymore.

But what have we replaced those tasks with? Television, prepared foods, Internet searches, and a multitude of jobs that require little or no movement of the body. In reality, those tasks that our ancestors did may have lengthened life not shorted it as we like to presume. Our ancestors had exercise built into their daily regimen. It was mandatory that they do it to survive.

If yester year’s tasks were combined with today’s exceptional knowledge in nutrition we would be living longer and in superior health.

Lets look at what they did and what it can do for you.

Chopping wood – builds upper body mass and increases oxygenation
Hauling water – weight bearing exercise that will increase bone mass
Digging rutabagas – stretches ligaments and promotes flexibility
Hanging laundry – stretches long torso muscles, exposes skin to sunlight, lungs to fresh air
Horseback or carriage riding to market – jostles the lymphatic system and encourages toxins to move
Walking to market – aerobic exercise with a weight-bearing component on the return trip.
Washing clothes – aerobic activity. Probably reduces stress when angry also!
Baking whole grain bread – gets you off the couch and moving. Kneading dough provides upper body exercise with a mild aerobic component.
Stoking the wood stove – also gets you off the couch.

Our ancestors benefited in the following ways just by doing the everyday tasks that life demanded. Those tasks provide for the following:

1. Relieves stress
2. Promotes oxygenation
3. Increases circulation
4. Stimulates lymphatic flow
5. Stimulates the digestive tract to peristaltic action
6. Boosts the immune system
7. Burns calories and reduces weight
8. Increases muscle mass
9. Promotes and maintains bone density

I’m not saying that you should give up your car and plant a rutabaga patch but what you need to do is start walking everyday, incorporate activities that include body action like baking bread, or planting in the garden and raking your own leaves instead instead of hiring someone. 15 minutes on a mini trampoline will do what the horse and carriage did without all the extraneous activities we would mostly prefer to avoid.

Most poeple who tell you to exercise don’t understand fully why it is so beneficial. Yea, building muscle mass, burning calories. All the same stuff we’ve heard for years. But here’s the real reason: Thixotrophy!

Thixotrophy tells us that certain colloids within the protoplasma of the body have a tendency to form a solid gel. In this gel are a multitude of things like starches, minerals, vitamins, and physiological toxins.

When this gel is shaken thrixotrophy occurs and the gel becomes a solution, capable of transport again. So if you spend your time gellen in a chair or on the sofa you are literally solidifying your protoplasma. When you get up and move it around, literally shake it, it transforms into a solution again and becomes physiologically available for transport.

These directions of transport are varied. It could be sugars being made available for combustion in an intercellular chemical reaction, it could be minerals trying to move in and out of a cell, it could be toxins moving through the lymphatic system on their way to the skin, the kidneys or the portal vein for removal. Nutrients may not bet getting to where you need them most. If you don’t shake all this stuff up they move real slow, causing toxic buildup and all kinds of congestion throughout the body.

For those cold stormy days when outside exercise seems to be the insurmountable task get on a mini trampoline for about 15 m minutes to keep from gellen.

When you exercise you'll find that the benefits of your super nutritional program will start to take effect in ways you could not anticipate. You'll be stronger, clearer and happier because the nutrients are being better assimilated, transported and utilized and toxins will be better circulated out of the body. All those antioxidants you are now taking will truly be creating a cleaner and healthier internal environment.

Oops! I forgot to post yesterday! Must have been an uneventful day. [Big Grin]

Saturday-Let's see, no exercise this week. Been busy with other things. Here at work putting in my 9 hours then off to Mom's to get ready for the last yard sale. (I hope!)

Kayak-Glad you got some rest. Wish I could've gone shoe shopping with you! Always on the lookout for comfy shoes. [Smile]

TuTu-Thanks for the 411. You know me, kinda out of the loop. [Big Grin]

Carmen-Thanks for all the info. I've been battling the bulge for quite some time and lately, I've just been watching it grow. Does growing a belly count as a form of gardening? [lol]

Have a super weekend everyone!

[hi]

Thanks, Carmen. I wish I still had my rebounder, but right now my feet aren't quite able. Not sure my hips would like it either.

kayak.. your next pair of sneakers need to be velcro closures!

I had good intentions to exercise this morning. Did grocery shopping and then decided to go test drive a new car before walking.

Well, I negotiated a deal, but was not satisfied with the trade in value of my car, so I said I would think about it and left.

Ironically, my old Honda did not make it out the dealership parking lot. It died. It's not the battery. Probably fuel injectors. I think God has a marvelous sense of humor.

So, the salesman drove me to rent a car and Honda will fix my old one--good thing it died right in front of the service center. [Eek!]

Wonder if God just gave me the okay to buy the new CRV--when they can find one in the color I want.

That ordeal took 4 hours and by that time my "get up and go" had "got up and went." Watched the Illini finally win a football game and am relaxing this evening.

Really cold here--getting down to 8 degrees tonight, but at least no snow.

Hiker53

Yeah, you get to buy a new one.. when that salesman calls you next week and lowers his price (or gives you more for your car.)

BRRRR!!! Stay warm! [Smile]

windy here. all last night. all day til 1am they say.

lost power for awhile...and when it was still out and started to get dark i hustled a little to get some ice and batteries and lamp oil. that made extra walking for me. and now i am trying to clear clutter spots while the lights are on again. flames in here could be pretty dangerous and i dont know if i'll luck out and not lose it again.

hope all are safe. just saw a little of OK and TX on the news. we had one man die when a tree hit him. and many trees and wires down. i went less than 1/2 mile to get my stuff and was glad i didnt have to be out there longer. i have trees over me but they are mostly branches...i dont think they would break thru roof. i have a metal roof tho...what happens when live wires hit that...???
