First off, I apologize for the flurry of topics lately....my wife, wonderful support, cannot answer these kind of questions for me.
Has anyone regained their short-term memory and ability to comprehend deep topics (whether reading or in conversation)?
How long did it take you to recover it? What infection did you treat before you really began to notice improvement, etc?

Both my long and short memory come and go...for me no one knowd if it is a lyme thing or a head injury thing
It seems to be more of a processing problem
But i wonder if its intermittent cuz my inflammation comes and goes...that is the explanation for my nerve pain coming and going

That's hard to say!! I'm am getting older by the day, so some of it is my age.
But cleaning up my diet and making sure candida/yeast is not an issue in my gut has provided much more brain power for me.
I also cleared Lyme and babesia about 9 years ago. I don't think I could pinpoint which meds did it.

Short term memory and other cognitive deficits often return with IV abx treatment. IMO this is primarily a manifestation of Lyme, not the cos.

Yes. Starting to get flashes of it back.
IV abx and treating lyme encephalitis seems to be helping.
In flare right now so brain is mud but have had glimpses recently of my old brain peeking through the fog.
Been treating 10 mos aggressively IV plus oral plus herbs plus detox 5 mos

Memory is gradually returning after 4 years treatment of Lyme, Babs, Bart and Candida.

Yes, mine came back to normal after good lyme treatment (meaning the Burrascano protocol). Everything about me came back to normal.
And, I had lyme undiagnosed at least 10 years. Then, I got lousy lyme treatment for 2 years. Then, I got great treatment for 1 year and that is when I returned to normal. That was over 8 1/2 years ago now.
And, a friend of mine who hadn't had normal brain function for well over a year got her normal brain back again with good lyme treatment.
Her lyme doctor (who follows Burrascano) told her that if she still had periods of clarity in the last year, then the doc could guarantee that she would get her brain function back with treatment.
Well, my friend had not had any periods of clarity in well over a year. Still, she got her normal brain function back.
This woman had to leave her professional position and become a bank teller due to loss of mental abilities. And, when I met her, she was about to get fired from the bank teller position because she forgot to put a hold on funds while a check cleared. That cost the bank thousands of dollars.
I have a second friend who had become totally "stupid" from lyme diseae. She was so slow in talking, understanding, responding, walking, etc. that I was in shock when I ran into her. She behaved like a 90 year old woman.
I took her to my lyme doctor and he told her she should videotape herself monthly to see the change in her as she treated lyme disease because she really didn't know how sick she was. That went over her head. She never did it.
But, she got back to her normal self. I don't know if it took 1 year or 2. She had to stop treatment almost right off the bat due to high liver enzymes from Mepron. So, that was a 6 month break in her treatment.
I really don't know anyone who didn't get all of their brain function back. All of my friends who are well now (5 of them) are all back to normal in all respects.
And, my friend who became "stupid" now takes meds one week out of every month. That is how she stays well. And, her brain is back to normal also.
That's what I expect good lyme treatment to do for a person.
It seems to me that the mental problems lyme causes are all due to inflammation which cuts down on the circulation of blood to the brain. Once your inflammation goes down, you get good oxygen again, and your mental problems all go away.
I had 2 UBOs (unidentified bright objects) show up on my brain scan before I got to any lyme doctor. The report said that these are thought to be caused by hypoperfusion.
Definition of HYPOPERFUSION : decreased blood flow through an organ <cerebral hypoperfusion
So, I would say that you should expect to return to normal with good lyme treatment.
