My gag reflex is on high alert.

I sometimes have to spit food out because I can't swallow it for gagging.

Watched someone pick something out of their teeth and gagged.

Someone else at my work clears their throat constantly and the sound of it makes me gag.

Yikes!

Anyone else have this?

I used to be able to watch smell or eat anything without gagging. Now I can't even watch people eat and talk at the same time-because if I see food in their mouths when talking-I gag.

Mashed vegetables-gag.

Fat or gristle in meat-gag

Chicken skin-gag.

It is terrible. Just hopeing this is something that goes away.

I have it bad when I lay down. feels like I'm choking and I cant swallow.

sometimes food will take an extra swallow to get down.

dr prescribed nexium and it seemed to help.

Is it more visual or more of a smell thing? Is your estrogen on high alert?

It's miserable feeling that way. There was one guy in our office who coughed gross- won't give you details lest you gag...

Anyway, I could hear it and would turn green....yuk

Hope you figure it out.

This is a long-standing symptom for me. Goes along with severe fear of vomiting. The extremely sensitive gag reflex makes visiting the dentist a nightmare, and brushing my teeth sucks...I gag every time I put that toothbrush in my mouth.

Tried the acid reflux treatment, just made things worse. Been on tons of anti-yeast/candida stuff, nothing helps.

I'm pretty sure it's the Lyme/co's...Bartonella is usually involved when there are nerve issues...

Wish I knew how to reduce the sensitivity, but I don't. I just hope this goes away once the infections are under control.

OK, thanks so much you guys!

Glad to hear it isn't just me.

Hmmm, maybe estrogen? Or bartonella? Geesh.

Yes, it is more a visual and also a textural thing for me. As soon as I see someone's food, or spit in their mouthes the gaggers start up.

Or if something has been in my mouth for more than a few chews and is getting soggy-gaggers.

Shudder.

Randi-That is interesting Nexium helped. I get this mostly during the day, haven't noticed it when I lay down but will try to pay attention to see if it is GERD.

LP-Great idea about the toothpaste. Maybe whatever crap is in it, is making my mouth sensitive.

Dogsandcats-Haha. Yes, a coworker has almost the same cough. The cough that is crossed between a cough and throat clearing. Ick! I know exactly what you mean!

Razzle-Yes, I agree. I have a fear of vomiting also, so I don't get to that stage. Just the gagging part. Bartonella makes sense.

yes, I had this bad for a while. I thnk all the disease made me more sensative to reaction to my thoughts.

I used to be able to handle allkinds of yucky stuff including certain movies, but now not as much.

my DH gags when he brushed his teeth. says he can't help it. he has tick disease too, but is way farther behind in treatment than I am.

I am feeling better in this regard most of the time.

it can be scary.

Thank you LP and Lisa.

I wonder if it is a processing thing that causes this?

Thanks for your ideas and sharing
