More lawsuits like this need to happen. Hopefully doctors will stop being so ignorant.
At the end of the article it says this which concerns me:

They allowed that. knowing that ehrlichia killed the poor child ? ! ? I can understand the mother / family maybe not knowing because no one told them. But the medical staff should have told them it would not be possible, due to infection.
For anyone new to lyme, tick borne disease . . . donation of organs, blood, tissue, ANYTHING should never be done while alive or afterward.
The Red Cross has a lifetime ban (for giving blood) on those who have EVER had Babesia, one tick borne protozoal infection.
Those who know lyme & other TBD also advise those who have ever had lyme or other TBD to NOT donate in any such manner. Cancel any donor cards, etc. Let your families know the importance of this.
A tick can carry not just dozens of infections, but hundreds. There is no way to test for all of these but even those we do know about can be passed to others through blood / tissue donation.
The CDC is out to lunch on this, big time. So we have to be the ones who get educated about it and act with responsibility.
Donate time, efforts in OTHER ways to serve the community if you have the energy. -

I don't get it, they killed the poor little boy, now they may kill another one.
who the hell allowed this to happen, donating organs with these diseases.

Tragic. Idk. If my child needed a donated organ from a sick child, I would probably still take it. But I'd like to know about it.
Smh. Last surgery, my anesthesiologist badge said he was from Vandy. I remember him looking at my file and saying "when the hell were you in Connecticut?" I said "I wasn't, I got lyme here in Cleveland so watch out".....He just rolled his eyes and let out a "pfft"
Vandy is still in the stone ages like everyone else. Hopefully this will wake them up.

That lawsuit will adversely affect lyme treatment! Think about it, we don't have doctors standing in line to treat us now. Law suits are about money and only money!

I don't think the lawsuit will hurt our interests - that lawsuit is putting anyone on alert that if they MISS the infections, they could get sued.

One little problem is that they will say, "Oh, it's ehrlichisosis, not Lyme."
But they STILL need to be paying closer attention to what a parent says!!

The governor of that state got tickborne disease(s) and was never diagnosed by Vanderbilt or Mayo. But they gave him antibiotics anyway and he apparently got better. They said they didn't know what he had!
