I know the flu shot issue is very controversial and I haven's gotten one for a few years, but I had to to go to my primary to get better control of my asthma(she put me on Advair which has helped).

She wanted me to get flu shot, saying if anyone is going to end up in the hospital with the flu, I am in the high percentage, due to my asthma. It really made me feel that I needed to get it. She said it did not have preservatives or thimersal.

I put it off since I was going to be babysitting and did not want to take a chance dealing with any side effects of the shot, but made an appt to go back next week to get it.

My question, do most people dealing with asthma get the shot? I am considering cancelling my appt.

Do you have a LLMD?

Your regular doctor would not understand how lyme affects a body so your LLMD would be best to ask. With lyme, the immune system if "flipped" and really messed up. It does not act as in a person without lyme.

Have you been assessed for BABESIA?

There are so many things you can do to be proactive in support of your lungs and against flu that your doctor has overlooked or does not know about.

ELDERBERRY EXTRACT for starters. For lungs, a HIMALAYAN SALT PIPE . . . ALLICIN . . . .

Being gluten, dairy and corn free (for they all cause more phlegm in respiratory system and phlegm is safe hiding for infectious microbes).

So many things to protect ourselves that do not post the risk that vaccines can.

And, mercury is not the only dangerous additive regarding vaccines. It's true some vaccines no longer have mercury but some still do . . . and aluminum and other additives are to be considered.

Consulting with a naturopathic doctor regarding safe treatment & care of your lungs, your body would be the first move I'd suggest:

How to find an ILADS-educated LL:

N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor);

L.Ac. (Acupuncturist);

D.Ay. (Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine);

D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine);

Herbal Safety considerations & reference books; etc.

With asthma, I hope by now your doctor has directed you to be sure there are no "fuzzy" items around your house and to not wear corduroy or chenille or anything that sheds.

Even fuzzy bathroom towels should be banished. A cork bathmat is safest for those with asthma.

Also to be me mindful of chemical sprays on textiles and furniture, avoid vinyl as best you can and all scented products.

A vacuum with a HEPA filter is very important, too.

I sure hope all that was done a long time ago but some doctors just don't discuss this important action.

Babysitting.

You say that you are to be babysitting - so the assumption is that this is not likely just a once in a while event. If the child / children are friends / family that might be one thing

if for pay and not friend / family circle, that might be another

considering if they would wish / want / demand any babysitter -- or even anyone their kids(s) see to be up on vaccines.

If so, this would go far beyond the flu shot as just about every illness under the sun down is being made to be the scariest thing in the world and all caused by those who don't keep up with shots (not true).

Be very careful with this mindset. Be informed and know what your body needs, etc. Know which vaccines are vital (polio, tetanus) and which ones are not -- or what additives you will and won't risk.

Don't make excuses for where you come to stand but be prepared to run into this.

Brush up on how to prevent spreading germs and that will cover so many bases. Don't work if you are sneezing, etc.

Thanks, Keebler. I was positive for Babesia years back. Have not been retested in a few years.

I called my LLMD's office but realized dr must be at the ILADS conference. I will call again Monday, but I believe was told a couple years ago to get the shot, which confused me. I thought all LLMD's would say no to it. (I did not get it at that time, but my asthma was more under control then).

I will like to get a name of a LLND also.
Money as with most is an issue to change to a difference dr.

I was not told about the "fuzzies" but thank you for mentioning it. I knew stuffed animals were not good.

I think I was writing the post before your last one as you posted.

It just infuriates me that a doctor would tell you the only way to help your lungs is a flu shot but then fail to tell you a very vital detail about "banishing fuzzies" all around your home and wardrobe. Arrhgh.

Be sure to avoid ibuprofen as that can be terrible for anyone with asthma. It constricts the blood vessels all throughout the body (and also is hard on kidneys for that reason).

Of course, you likely know to avoid acetaminophen due to the stress on liver.

Water is the best thing for your lungs. Green Tea, too, but not some of what's in store. Link will follow.

As for a LL ND, I'm not in your area but you might check with your lyme support group. If not a LL ND, at least one with some degree of lyme and BABESIA knowledge.

Babesia can really affect the lungs so that's why it's vital any doctor who treats your lungs knows all about babesia. It is very often chronic, too, so be sure to communicate with your LLMD about your lung issues.

Start here with ELDERBERRY & CORDYCEPS (also really helped my lungs)

Though not at all about lyme, this is one of the best reference resources on my bookshelf that has wonderful chapters, many graciously available through their website.

I mentioned above that some tea sold in stores / web sites is not good. Some is, of course but it can be an education to find a good source. Details:

GREEN TEA - Links Set

&

Google: "HIMALAYAN SALT PIPE" (but a ceramic one is best, not plastic. You might even have something at home that would work with a good sea salt from your market)

So if it has no preservatives, she is likely giving you the flu mist .. That is a LIVE vaccine.

I'm not a fan of flu shots in general .. and for me personally, I would pass on the live vaccine.

but that's me

You may also want to look into the possibility that salicylates in foods are causing asthma for you. They do for some people.

Moving this to Medical Questions.....
