I've tried a few from traders, and whole foods but they have a peppery aftertaste which I can't tolerate due to chronic heartburn.
In restaurants the olive oil seems mild and not peppery at all. I'd like a organic extra-virgin olive oil( need to increase good fats, cholesterol is up to 328, yikes!)

- I do not find this to have that peppery bite that you describe from others. Consistently good. And I can trust that this is real, not sure about some others. VitaCost often has sale prices and free shipping over $49.

Olive oil from upper Italy as opposed to the south of Italy has a more peppery taste. If you want one less peppery buy one that is from the south of Italy, such Apulia or Sicily or any Mediterranean location that produces olive oil.

- Seek out local sources, too. There are several now in the U.S. One good one might just be in your own backyard, especially as you are in N. Ca.
Call your area farmers' markets organization offices for a start. -

I did try a good one at a farmers market last year, but it wasn't organic so I didn't buy it. But it did taste good, and was mild.

The climate and altitude in which the olives are grown will affect the taste and also how peppery it is.
