A tragic family event has happened. My cousin (who just lost his dad in July)
had severe depression and shot himself the DAY after his birthday
Couple years ago they were calling him bi-polar,,,Whats the difference?
Tired of funerals,,cant count how many in just last few years.
Last one was just couple weeks ago for my cousins wife who battled cancer for 14 years.

- So sorry to hear of the loss of your cousin.
There are plenty of medical sites that will give you the medical explanation for bi-polar but it's not the same as clinical depression. Though, those with bi-polar illness do have a very deep depression as part of it, along with some very manic high frantic times (used to be called manic-depression).
What those explanations / websites / most doctors seem to not know is that it's not necessary always a matter of brain chemistry out of balance, though that can happen.
and sometimes, the right medication can be great. Patty Duke's book details how when she got the right med, all was back in balance.
Many with this, though, do not really have it. They have been misdiagnosed.
TOXINS from infection, even magnesium or other nutrient deficiencies (even scurvy) can cause what may appear as sharp mania and then drops.
ADRENAL illness, too, can be involved. And that is so often missed, mismanaged as if steroids are give a false bi-polar, excessive mania, can arise for some due to misdiagnosis.
Reaction to medications as well or interactions.
PORPHYRIA, a metabolic liver disorder can also mimic symptoms of bi-polar . . . and with porphyria, so many Rx can make it just explode with highs and lows.
There are so many possible causes, connections, things that don't play well, etc. but too often, the Rx given can push someone further off the ledge if all the variables are not considered.
It sure hurts to know anyone is suffering so much or feeling so rejected / dejected or just not thinking clearly and hopeless.
There might be some slight sense of relief knowing that he'll no longer have to feel so awful. Yet, my own experience with doctors has lead me to the fact that so very often, there are many things missed or wrong treatments given that I just don't have much hope that everyone who should have the . . . .
