Steve,

Good article.

And don't touch raw meat with bare hands (in case there are any cuts or breaks in skin on hands.

I find it easiest to unwrap the meat from the butcher paper right over the pan it's to be cooked in and then carefully put the wrapping in the trash without touching the sides.

Great article! I just added a link to it to the TBD page for TRICHINELLOSIS. Thanks!

I have the disease listed under tick borne diseases because a LLMD called me one day out of the blue and without even saying "hello", said...

"What the *&^%$& is wrong with Maryland patients?"

I am laughing now as I did then caused it surprised me to have them ask, especially in that fashion. I had no clue what they were talking about.

They found Maryland patients- none of the others from surrounding states- had a bunch of strange diseases along with the more typical TBD's. One was TRICHINELLOSIS, one was salmonella and others I can't remember right now.

The doc wanted to know how/why Maryland patients had these things, especially when others didn't.

My only explanation was ticks are biting the pigs and chickens, then humans- lots of pig and chicken farms where I am- and/or people eat raw eggs (protein), a lot of pork not always cooked well done, etc.

No one I know of has tested Maryland ticks for these diseases, so we still don't know why this is happening.

So your info is very helpful.

Is he suffering from eating undercooked pork? Haven't seen him (what's his name) in a while.
