Hi, new member here. Does anyone know where I can send ticks for whole genome/Advanced molecular d (I forget what the D stands for)lab testing of ticks? I know I can send ticks to UMASS/Amherst for $50/pop, they will test ticks for a panel of a number of KNOWN tick borne diseases. I've done that. The whole genome/AMD test checks a tick for ALL possible foreign DNA. That's how they identified a few of the new tick borne pathogens. For a number of reasons, I want to do this kind of test on the next tick I pull off of me. Among me, my family, and my neighbors, I now have: 1.) one person w/ tick bites that have lasted up to 2 yrs. Yes, the bites themselves have turned into permanent burning, painful, itching lumps that go away,comes back for a few months, go away, come back. Sometimes sprouting satellite lumps. Cortisone injections have not worked. Only a punch biopsy so far has worked (more or less). Negative for all known tick borne diseases. 2.) 2 dogs that I know of in the neighborhood developed idiopathic thrombocytopenia. One died, the other lived. One that lived tested neg. for all known tick borne diseases, Unknown what, if any testing done on the dog that lived. 3.) neighbor w/ crippling RA requiring IV chemo, now mostly only affecting one wrist, 4.) another neighbor developed ALS and died. 5.) 2 neighbors went nuts and committed suicide. 6.) a family member developed a rare lymphoma after being bitten by a large biting fly. I really want to know what the heck these ticks are carrying. It ain't the usual panel. I emailed CDC and asked if they could tell me of any labs that can do this testing. They gave me a canned answer saying check w/ your state health dept, and "the CDC does not recommend testing individual ticks on a routine basis." WHAAAAT? WHY would the official canned CDC response be to DISCOURAGE people from testing ticks???? I just want to know what labs do the whole genome/AMD testing on ticks that have actually bitten people (or dogs).
