I'm making a tincture. I usually tincture the cut herb but, in this case I could only find the powdered herb. If you are using the powdered herb, do you still tincture 1:5 (1 part herb to 5 parts brandy)?

- Why not just take the powdered herb and mix with water? You'll probably get it just as strong as you can with the powder, anyway and all would be consumed.
I think the powder would make it very hard to strain it all out. No mention of powdered herbs here but they do explain how to use dried cut & sifted herbs, says "finely cut" but that's still much larger pieces then the grains of powder would be.
• Pour alcohol to the very top of the jar. Cover plants completely! . . . -

Thanks, I appreciate the information on making tinctures. I was going to make a tincture of Motherwort to try as a sleep aid but after reading more customer feedback and seeing that some people use it for heart palpitations and other
heart issues, I've decided it might be a little too risky to try so it's back to the drawing board. 🙂

Why did you choose brandy? I know you can use all types of alcohol. It's just the medium to draw out active ingredient. I made these for a while but used grain alcohol but I just read stronger isn't always better. Just wondering. Thanks
