For those who are interested in reducing pollutants from wood smoke the bay area air quality management has started wood smoke reduction grant program where you can:
replace fireplace or wood-burning stove with qualifying device, retire or remove existing fireplace or wood-burning stove. The grants are from $750 to $12,000.
Just thought I would post this for those in this area. Maybe it's a program that can be a template for other areas as well.
(breaking up the post for easier reading for many here)

- Great idea. Wish our area would wake up to this issue. 156 apartments here and many of them spout out smoke non-stop from Halloween to Spring.
Thanks for that link. When some energy arrives, it could serve as a springboard for other local movements, too, I'd bet. It always helps if someone has already invented the wheel, at least.
Thanks for sharing. -

Remember when the anti-smoking laws were just beginning to take effect(before it was banned in many places). You could at least get non-smoking sections of restaurants, planes, and hotels.
I wish they could do the same thing in towns. where those who wish to avoid close contact with wood-smoke in their yards and homes could do so.
