Walked miles ,I am very happy i did not fall and wipe out like last year, ripping my chest cartilage to shreds. Costrochondritis!!

I lightened up on everything, pistol instead of a rifle.

A small backpack instead of storing stuff in a fold out camp stool.

I did not climb into my tree stand, sat on the bottom step on a foam rubber cusion that did not weigh much.

I got smarter i think,but still didn't see a single deer.

Maddog,

NEXT time you go deer hunting you should go---outdoors.

More deer outside than in your living room

Unless you have some wild wall paper.

Always happened to me too,,,every time I got a license/permit narry a deer to be seen.

Actually I think you need to put out those deer lick tanks a month in

advance or salt blocks all summer,,,so they come around more often.

AND be extremely lucky.

I heard once if you pile a few apples for a while it helps too.

Maybe a corn feeder. they are about the same as a TV and a TV repairman. It always works perfect while he is in the house.

Can you still get a bow permit? And use a crossbow?

Or is their still black powder seasons there. Here they have seasons clear into January.

HERE where I used to live the deer moved 15 miles to a major river when it got cold and their water source froze up.

IF you have a place to hunt on a bigger river you have to fight them off there is so many.

Driving down the road at dusk they look like herds of cattle grazing out there.

They are neat to see so many out the car window

We had blue tongue come thru a couple years ago and wiped out alot of them.

Go get a black powder or crossbow and lettem have it

They hightailed it down south I'm afraid.

Every year had several out on my property in AL.

Deer hunters camp at the end of my road so the deer would hide out on my property.

Now I live in a GA city so don't see them.

Good luck!

Hi Gang
Don i have the 17th and 18th,and 4 days black powder in January. I am not allowed to bait them were I go it is a state place. But I found an empty attractant bag in there.CHEATERS I guess.

Randibear yep i am to close to Dayton.

aklnwlf,I think they all head to the boy scout camp near here till hunting season is over.

In Cincinnati they eat the bird seed. All moved to town.

GEEZE! Got me in a panic there for a moment.

I was going to tell Just Don to get out the collection jar so we can start raising funds to bail Maddog out of jail when he gets caught baiting the deer.

Obviously JD didn't mean to suggest Maddog do something illegal. Maddog has a habit of getting himself in trouble just fine without anyone's help. ~smile~

And I am glad to see Maddog already knew he couldn't do it cause my cash supply is right low this time of year!

And I really hate to lecture people about hunting laws right before the weekend.

It's PARTY TIME!

Maddog, if you don't get any this year or have any better prospects next year give me a call.

I'll see if we can put you on some deer here. Ours feed on corn and soybeans so they taste just like beef. (Sorry JD, but they do.)

You might also check with some farm owners in your area to see if they have permits to kill deer that are destroying their crops. (Crop permits) Maybe they will sign you up as a volunteer for next year.

And... you need to do it long before the next season or they may not be able to add your name to the list in time and get you approved.

my husband went out too and saw none. just left again for this weekend.

my nephew shoots on every single time he hunts. he must have some golden deer thumb. I hate the fact of killling the animals, but I do appreciate the meat in the freezer to feed us. although im nervous about touching the bloody meat. [Frown]

Maddog,

Dont want to make you feel bad.

I went camping this last weekend at the largest state park in the state. It has 57 cabins they rent out there

You have to 'literally' fight the deer off. they almost come up and look in the windows.

They even have special deer hunting seasons there among st the ice skaters and cabin people and joggers up and down the sidewalk,,,oh and the horse riders.

I forget if its bow hunting, crossbow or black powder or all of the above. The deer come walking down the streets.

There are signs up that say if you dont have a hunting permit dont come into the woods(everything beyond the lawn grass) from Monday thru Thursday.

That kind of hunting would better be termed meat acquisition because the hunt is a non event. They stand and stare at you from 20 yards away.

I hear other guys say they can shoot like 5 deer,,,in he old days it used to be ONE buck only.

Now I think you have to get a doe before you get a buck.

Wish I had someone to go hunting WITH. Some deer jerky and sausage would taste fine.

If you find a neighbor or brother to go hunting with sure seems to increase your odds some.

OMG JD! You are so bad! Had me laughing head off!

Well....back to my movie Happy Feet!

just don .. You are making me so hungry for venison .. steaks, jerky, sausage... all of it!!

We have to have bow hunters cull the deer in our little city too .. and in the nearby big city. Too many deer. What's up with Ohio, anyway, MADDOG? Are y'all mean to your deer?

Hi Don
The deer are getting rare near here and they only come out at night.

What can i say it would be nice to have that many deer.

I bet out of state licences are expensive there.

Venison, venison, how I love you so!
Onions, garlic, roast with you very slow!

MD,

I did check into non resident hunt prices. WEB SITE SAYS $216.

Might be other permits you need WITH that one like habitat stamp and or license etc,

Even the resident fees were high I thought. No wonder lots of guys who USED to hunt every year dont any more!!!

Plus the places that process the meat have dried up about 19 fold and prices have sky rocketed too.

Most people just dont want to fool with it themselves. Jerky is easy to make,,,sausage a bit harder. Better if you have a smoker and know how.
