I had a dental extraction on a top right third molar three days ago. It hurt for a little while and it's a little swollen but really not too bad.
On Thursday I have go to get two more removed, the two right lower molars.
Now first of all, I am realizing that this is exactly where a lot of my problems are located, but you should have seen what those two teeth looked like on the x ray. The first one was a root canal that had cracked underneath. The next one was really weird looking, very swollen roots that looked like they dug all the way into my jawbone.
Thinking about my right sided tinnitus, jaw pain, swollen glands all on that side. There's a mega infection there.
Now I'm worried. I'm worried I'm going to end up dying because of my tooth. I can't articulate how this all goes down in my head but it starts with the extraction and somehow I then end up in the ER with a runaway infection that ravages all my soft organs and I flatline with sepsis.
I know this is probably overreacting but so much has happened to me this year I mostly feel like I'm inches from death and if I take one wrong step I'm toast. I'm worried that opening up that infected tooth is going to let it out to attack the rest of me.
I started Clindamycin -- 900 mg.Is that enough to protect me from the above scenario?

But, I don't like someone not knowing.

When I started on this dreadful journey, I researched extensively. Folders, binders, notepads, scraps of paper everywhere.
Searching and searching. Almost solved the puzzle. But with NO brain recall, I would end up going on tangents to nowherevilles.
When you mentioned sepsis, BAM. Lightbulb moment.
I believe, IMO, that ALL Lyme sufferers have sepsis, especially Neuro Lyme patients.
Google sepsis NIH.
The treatment for sepsis is to first treat the infection. Then to treat the inflammation.
Antioxidants such as N-acetyl-cysteine and dexmedetomidne.
Also magnesium, riluzole, HBOT, calcium blockers, anticytokine blockers, and IVIG.
Also, no anticholinergic drugs, such as Benadryl, anti anxiety drugs, Claritin, codeine. Most are meds we NEED.
That's as far as I ever got. Maybe head in that direction and see what you can come up with.
What we are infected with, is very, very serious, but of coarse I don't have to tell you that. You live it every day.

my husband had a root canal go bad and had tooth that went into his jaw bone. they chopped most of the tooth out but they had to break his jaw bone because of all the mess.
he really suffered. was on high dose abx for long time but he came through fine. lost weight too.
if you've got drs you trust and they're specialist, cause husband was referred to a specialist, you'll be fine.

Actually it's just a regular dentist.
Sigh, there isn't ever any good news with Lyme is there.

really? they sent my hub to some kind of oral surgeon. guess it was because of them having to work on that jaw bone. our dentist said he wouldn't touch him cause it was considered surgery I guess.
whole thing could have been avoided if he'd taken care of his teeth. he had really bad peritonitis too.
taught him a lesson but good.
sadly insurance didnt pay a penny and, boy, did it cost.

This dentist said it was ok - a "complex extraction", not a surgery. My gums aren't great but they're ok.
Yep, I gotta pay out of pocket for all this.
I don't really have a choice, I can't not do it. I can feel the infection in there.

I am sure there are many others that this didn't happen to. I remember the worst cases, unfortunately, in some of our sickest patients.
Out of five people I know, 4 of the 5, that had minor to major dental work performed died because the infection spread shortly after having the work done. They were all given antibiotics prior to and after the dental work.
One, also on antibiotics prior to minor surgery to have a plate fitted, was flown to shock trauma from a local hospital and survived, barely.
This is the first one I knew this happened to. He was a good friend and LN member named Billy.
Thanks TC. I did know about that, which is why I'm worried.
But I guess if I get horrible symptoms the first couple days it's not a "herx."
I had one extraction already and did not die, so let's hope the next two don't kill me either.

I have had 2 extractions since sick with Lyme (by oral surgeons) and survived both without either even setting me back. I know there are many others on LN that have had dental extractions as well.

Just to update -- I did not get the extractions because my dentist got nervous and referred me to a periodontist.
She did the right thing, because she wasn't comfortable, but I got myself all mentally prepared to get these things ripped out of my face and I'm now just exhausted from the drama of it.
I go to see this peri in a couple of weeks.

Whew! I feel better too! But, I understand the anxiety 1,000%. Now it builds again.
BUT, I feel that if she wasn't comfortable it was good she didn't do it.

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this difficult situation. Hopefully once those other bad teeth are out, you will feel better and start to heal fro Lyme faster.
It was good that the dentist admitted that your situation was above her skill level and referred you on to the periodontist. They will be more experienced with your situation.
Bartender-bonnie, just because we have a chronic lyme, that doesn't mean that we have sepsis.
Sepsis is a severe life threatening blood stream infection. If you develop this infection, you need treated with powerful IV antibiotics ASAP. You will also be admitted to the ICU to be monitored closely and given supportive care.
If you are not treated ASAP after the first signs show up (especially rapidly rising high fever) you will lose consciousness, then die shortly after.
