I'm scared and freaked out. Needing some emotional support.

I just started an oral steroid. I've had bad hives over the past month and they started getting worse (all over my neck and chest). I saw my doc yesterday and he wrote me a script for prednisone.

Even my feet are swollen and I'm having trouble wearing shoes.

I tried allergy pills and they cut down on the itchiness, but this morning the hives were just in bloom.

I'm so scared of mood swings and all the other crap that comes from steroids, plus Lyme coming back. I can't live with these hives anymore

None of my normal, natural remedies are even touching this.

Sorry you're going throught this, Judie. Have you tried ranitidine (Zantac)? It cleared hives really well for me where prednisone and allergy meds did nothing.

No, that's new to me. The benadryl and allegra made the itching stop, but the hives remained, so started the steroids.

I feel like I'm buzzing like a hummingbird on the prednisone.

Judie .. You have my support .. full on.

But I'd like to suggest that you research "salicylates" when you have time. See if your diet is high in sals.

That is what pushed me over the edge several years ago when I ended up with hives.

Since that time, I have been diagnosed with MCAS.. Info here:

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/3/36299?

I no longer have hives due to proper treatment for MCAS and avoidance of salicylates in food and skin care.

Hang in there and don't give up!

PS .. I take cromolyn sodium, Zyrtec and Pepcid for the MCAS.

Where are the hives coming from?

Sometimes steroids are necessary and can be a good thing. Please keep in mind...

Recommendations from experts are to not use steroids without taking antibiotics during the entire time.

Hope that is the case here. Good luck!

One thing I read recently was that itchiness in some cases comes from EBV. Just an idea to consider, if there is something you might do to treat or consider treating EBV, homeopathic or otherwise.

I never took steroids for my hives and eczema, TC.

Some people become intolerant of salicylates, for whatever reason. I think my sensitivity to them has been there all my life and when I UPPED those foods (juicing, etc) .. then my body went haywire.

Now I can barely touch those foods and anything made from plants. It happens. We have 3,000 people in our group .. all having the same problems.

I have a horrible time with plants. I stopped my Chinese medicine herbs, they weren't helping at all the last month.

I'm allergic to all the plant debris around my house. The mold has been awful. I'm trying to move, but it's hard.

I was on my couch and watched as hives popped up the other day on my arm.

I'm allergic to Zyrtec. Not sure how to get cromolyn. I had a bad reaction to nasalcrom

I also have EBV.

This won't improve till I move, but I'm stuck here for now. It sucks. Just trying to manage all this till I can get out of here.

Then you will want to look at this list. Skin care is also very important.

If you reduce your overall load of sals, it should help.

I'm so sorry you are so miserable.

You could try Allegra or Claritin. Cromolyn is by prescription... but if you reacted to nasalcrom, that is not a good sign.

So glad to see it written about in the Huffpost! There's even a two-hour video discussion of it there!

Judie, do you have any knowledgeable doctor to work with?

On the plus side, no Lyme flare at all with the steroids. I'm done with those.

I found a new place to live! Just need to find movers.

I still have some hives, but not as bad.
