Happy Father’s Day!

Welcome to this week’s exercise thread where we talk about our daily movement and other things.

Are you gardening, walking the dog, cleaning, doing laundry? Any movement counts!

Have a great week! [Cool]

I went to church via Zoom.

I did one load of laundry.

Took the recycling to nearby bins and dropped a book off at the library.

Talked to my parents on the phone. They may soon open up the retirement center grounds to visitors. It would be great to see my folks even if we have to wear masks and stay 6 feet apart. May have to choose a cool evening as days are too hot for them to last long outside.

Humid here but I am sitting on the back patio enjoying some relax time.

Went to church this morning. Not as many there, which may have been due to Father's Day. I know of some who were out on the lake.

We stopped at Menard's for an HVAC filter. I somehow bought the wrong size about 2 weeks ago. Then we went home and I ordered lunch for us from Chili's. We've had an uptick in COVID cases since we are pretty open.

So I got that and then later went to pick up groceries. I really like the curbside service. I'm very spoiled to it now.

I actually enjoy shopping, but not now. It's really cutting into my shopping for OCC. I usually pick up sales when I'm shopping for groceries.

Took a very brief nap this afternoon. The weather is nice. Mid to upper 80's but the humidity is not real high and we have a breeze.

My plants on the balcony look awesome. There is one I am buying next year X5 .. It's a lavender/pink sun impatiens. The blooms are twice as big as regular impatiens. It is beyond gorgeous.

I hope everyone has a great evening!!

Hiker .. I hope you get to see your parents soon. I know they will be so happy to see you.

I found out today that a couple from our church just moved to Iowa. They had to go to assisted living here right before Christmas and I have wanted to go see them.

Now I can't go see them. The wife just turned 90 today and her husband will be 95 in October. They are such a dear couple and we miss them.

Thanks Hiker for starting us off for the week! It's in the 90's here already! Trying to think of ways to beat the heat and might have to wake up early to get my workouts in then get my yard chores done before it heats up.

I had a cooking day for our usual Sunday dinner so I made a scalloped ham and potato casserole, sauteed broccoli, carrot, cauliflower mix, simple salad of lettuce and carrot with a homemade yogurt dill dressing and an apple/pear crumble.

We enjoyed our time together!

Hiker sure hope you get to see your folks soon!

TuTu I've been enjoying take home meals too! We've ordered from Outback 2 times since Mother's day. I've got a $50 gift card for Olive Garden that's burning a hole in my pocket!

Oh....btw, I cut my thumb on the mandolin I was using to slice the potatoes so I'm out of commission where yard work is concerned. Someone trying to tell me to take it easy. [Roll Eyes]

See everyone tomorrow!

Ak—must be a bad cut on your finger [Eek!]

I did my knee exercises this morning.

Went to chiropractor and am being lazy so the adjustment will hold.

I did a lot of research on Prolotherapy and platelet rich plasma injections (PRP) for my knee. Foiund a MD about an hour away that I will see in August.

Cooking lamb patties for dinner with salad and asparagus.

Need to get garbage to curb before the storms roll in. Under a severe thunderstorm watch.

Worked out to my 3 DVDs then took my Mom to get some bloodwork done.

Afterwards we picked up some tacos and ate lunch with Josh at his house.

From there we stopped in at TJ Maxx and Bealls and bought a few things.

Hiker I did slice my thumb pretty bad. Hoping it won't get infected. Your dinner sounds so delicious! I prepped some asparagus today to cook tomorrow. PRP? I'll have to Google that one! Hope it helps with your pain.

See everyone tomorrow!

It is warm out there! I took the ground shovel and dug out 3 huge weeds - now the sweat is running down my back!

So I'm taking a break and eating cookies. They are broken cookies, so the calories fell out... right?

Posted by hiker53 (Member # 6046) on :

Manna-I believe broken cookies lose ALL calories!

I worked on my Bible study this morning.

I did my balance exercises.

Drove to nearby church to work on my walking without trekking poles. I was able to do over 20 minutes. The surface there is smooth and it is asphalt so it gives a little bit more than cement and that helps.

The cortisone shot has done absolutely nothing for my shoulder and both shoulders are killing me. I guess that means I won’t be vacuuming the house anytime soon.

Off to ice the shoulders.

Went to get my husband's motorcycle tags this morning. Had to stand in the sun for about 40 minutes. The good news is that I survived.

I was lucky because it was only about 77 degrees. I must have been pretty red though because the ladies in front of me encouraged me to stand in the shade near the door for the last 10 min or so. It was definitely better!

Then hubby paid me back by going to get a front-end alignment on my car. He was going to get the tires rotated but they were too busy.

I went to Lowe's for a few more plants. I was disappointed because my favorite plant place didn't have anymore of my favorite impatiens.

I bought a very pretty white sun impatiens, a zinnia of some type (I think .. I'll have to look at the tag) and a very unusual plant like some I saw at a health food store a few years ago.

I believe it's called a celosia. It's very odd but very pretty. It can handle full sun, so that's nice.

I also went to get an arrangement done for my new console table in our entryway. I didn't have enough greenery for it, so off to Michael's I went.

Tomorrow hubby and I will have a tele-medicine call with our PCP. We will go over the blood work we had done 3 weeks ago.

Hiker .. I'm so sorry about your shoulders!! Take good care of them and don't overdo it.

My back is not happy about all the walking and standing I did today. Ouchy.

AK .. I like TJ Maxx. I don't shop at our very often, but I like to at least go snoop around there. My hubby's hometown has a Beall's.

ok .. I'm off ...

Hiker .. we are taking a summer break for our Bible study. We finished Acts and will start another study in August or September.

The one at our church will start up in two weeks if we can figure out how to do it safely.

Worked out to my 3 DVDs, facial exercises and pelvic routine.

Then off to Walgreens and the post hospital to get my Mom's meds. Afterwards picked up Josh and we went to a feed and seed hardware store for a strong stump and brush killer and then to Home Depot for other items.

Ended up staying for pizza and a scary movie.

Manna....umm....c**kies.... where was I, oh yeah digging is hard work that requires an incentive!

Hiker I hate that the shot didn't work! Take care of those shouders!

TuTu love hearing about your plants! Hope your appointment goes well!

Off to bed gang!

[sleepy]

Ak--Does Josh ever run out of scary movies? [Wink]

I went grocery shopping this morning.

Did my knee exercises.

Beautiful day here, so I did about 2 hours of light yardwork. My shoulder is now stiff, but I have iced it well.

Yakked with a friend who live in FL.

Talked to my ol' roommate in NC. Her son, my godson, now has covid19. He is 24 and he and a friend got it from a guy who was coughing, refused to wear a mask and said Covid19 was a hoax. What is wrong with some people?!! [cussing]

Am gong to relax with a good book after I do the newspaper crossword puzzle.

AK ... There is a scary series on AMC Sunday nights. It's on at 9pm CST.

It's called NOS4A2 ... I won't be watching it, but one of my good friends was bragging on it yesterday.

Did all of my usual exercises and then took Mom to her PT appointment.

Afterwards went to Josh's to be around while he climbed a ladder and used a pole saw on some large tree limbs.

Stayed for leftover pizza and another scary movie!

Hiker I hate to hear that about your friend's son! Hope and pray that he recovers soon.

TuTu I've seen the commercials for that show and am hoping to binge watch it if it's online. Of course will be watching it with Josh. LOL!

Time to wind down so I'll see everyone tomorrow!

I had Bible study this morning. We will be using zoom for a long time because our leader has leukemia and as long as this COVID-19 is round we do not want to chance giving her an infection. I do so love the ladies in the study.

I did my balance exercises.

I went to both public libraries-the one in my town and the one in the bordering city. I now have eight books to read in three weeks. As it gets hotter I won’t be outside as much because I can’t handle the heat so I will be inside reading.

I also went to Dollar General to pick up some birthday cards to send.

Time to go rustle up some grub for dinner and then… Read! [Big Grin]

Hiker .. I really love our Bible study ladies too. We have a strong bond. We will really miss each other over the summer, but at least we live very close to each other.

This morning I went to pick up the flower arrangement I asked a local florist to do. I am really pleased with it!! (I had brought all of the flowers to them.)

I also made a quick stop at a grocery store known for its meats. Got some good prices, all things considered.

It's hot today .. about 89 but not real humid. (43%)

oh .. regarding my Dr's tele-visit yesterday, he is upping my thyroid meds.. again.

All other labs were pretty good, but my CRP went up. He said another test shows the inflammation is not in my arteries, so that's good.

Hubby is supposed to lay off the carbs .. something we both need to do.

I made a GF chicken fried steak tonight. It was beyond yummy!! My friend is traveling in Texas right now, so I'm channeling all things TEXAS.

Also embroidered a kitchen towel for myself. It's the first time I've embroidered anything since the early 70's. I'm pretty proud of myself!!

It says 'Texas" .. I may put a yellow rose above it.

AK .. Let me know if you are able to watch that new show.

Hiker .. make me read instead of doing so many hands-on things. lol .. I have a bunch of books on my Kindle that need to be read.

Did all my workouts and then jumped in the shower. So far today I've done very little and it's been wonderful to have another down day. My thumb is much better so I might have to start yard work again tomorrow.

Hiker that's a whole lot or reading to do in three weeks! I'll download a book from the library to my Kindle but sometimes I don't finish it.

TuTu I didn't realize that you had thyroid issues too. My Mom is having some problems with her TSH being to high so her GP doubled her Synthroid to 50 mcg. Sure hope she gets her ***** back.

Well gang off to google why my laptop is running so slow.

[hi]

AK .. Yeah, the thyroid was an issue for years, but my doctor never picked up on it since the TSH was always "normal." He finally got more educated on how to properly test and put me on Nature Throid. That was about the same time that MCAS reared its ugly head. (6 years ago)

Synthroid is not very effective, but that is what most doctors use.

I did my knee exercises.

Practiced walking without my trekking poles in nearby parking lot for a little over 20 minutes.

Made a pot of spaghetti sauce.

Moved some potted plants from front to back patio. Landscapers coming next week where I had the pots siting.

Can’t believe how fast this day has flown. Have a great evening.

Hiker .. so you're getting your front yard redone? I remember your talking about it about a month ago. Should be exciting!

I've been having fun doing embroidery. So far, I've done two kitchen towels. They both have a Texas theme on them.

I picked up food today from the local Walmart. I like that I can get anything from the store that I want. Pretty cool.

I got the wrong towels though, so I may go inside early tomorrow to exchange them. I also need to return other items. It will be the first time I've been inside that store since early March.

The weather is still OK here. We are supposed to be getting some of that Saharan dust soon. I hear it's bad in central Texas now.

I'm hoping to see some spectacular sunsets due to the dust in the air!

Have a great evening, everyone!!

Tutu—just getting part of the font redone. Pulling out an evergreen bush and evergreen ground cover. Had the yuccas pulled last year.

Planting spirea, hydrangeas, blue aster and a few other perennials.

Vegetables garden is becoming blueberry bushes and strawberries.

Supposed to rain starting tonight through the weekend and most of next week, so landscaping may not happen. May miss the Sahara dust sunrises and sunsets if rainy. Hope not. If it is going to come I want the positives from it.

Busy morning and then I crashed this afternoon.

I did my balance exercises.

Ran a load of laundry.

Went for a walk. Today I held a trekking pole in one hand parallel to the ground and an old sock in the other hand like my PT suggested. Since I have been using trekking poles for 16 years, my nervous system is used to having something in my hands to walk.

She said to try this and then go to carrying two socks instead of poles and then eventually graduate to hands free. I know part of this is psychological--that I am afraid I will get blocks from home without my trekking poles and suddenly need them. Still practicing in smooth parking lot and I know this will take time. Baby steps.

Cooked a little bit, but so hot out, I decided I didn't feel like baking the muffins I had planned to make.

Watered the flowers and filled the bird feeders.

Ran a quick errand.

This afternoon I took a 20 minute nap and when I woke back up I figured a square of dark chocolate would be helpful [Big Grin]

Shortened the elastic on another mask to fit a bit tighter. I have been getting a few more masks made for me as I have been out and about a bit more and I only do 2 loads of laundry per week. I figure I will be wearing them into the winter, too.

So, the rest of the day is my relax time. Am reading a Rita Mae Brown mystery. Her dogs and cats help solve the mysteries. Fun books!

Raining on and off today. Hoping to avoid heavy storms, but we do need the rain.

Got the last picking of peas today. Put 11 quarts in the freezer for a total of 42 packs in the freezer.

Canned 4 quarts of rhubarb pie filling. 2 didn't seal, so I'll have some for lunch tomorrow - maybe I'll just use a graham cracker crust.

Also canned 8 quarts of tea concentrate. This is the first year I've tried canning tea concentrate. I usually freeze it.
