Here we go into October hopefully moving and grooving. [woohoo]

Tell us about your movement. Are you raking leaves, yet? Doing laundry, vacuuming, walking etc. Everything counts on this thread.

We will even count your filling in your ballot as exercise! [Big Grin]

Have a great week!! [hi]

I spent the day at the hospital with my dad before he was transferred to the nursing home.

I am so glad we had the time together. He was back to his gentle self and knew me, although he spent most of the time talking about his adventures as a youth.

The hospital is large and I had to walk from the parking deck, so I guess that counts as my exercise.

Wow, hiker! Sometimes that happens when people get off of meds. I wonder which one(s) have been making him worse?? Or maybe the calming meds brought him back.

Hope he will be OK tomorrow too. It's such a day to day thing.

I didn't sleep very much last night, so my nap this afternoon was long. (probably too long!!!)

I did manage to re-pot an aloe vera plant before I fell asleep. I separated my big one yesterday and gave three plants away. I still have about 6 plants!!!

It was so jam-packed in my small pot that I knew it couldn't survive another winter like that.

I hope everyone else is OK, LPkayak included!!

Thanks Hiker for getting us going this week! I'm glad that you're Dad is doing better. I'll keep praying for you all.

TuTu I need to get out in the yard and do some more work. I don't seem to be very motivated lately.

Me and Mom have noticed that our hummingbirds haven't been around for a few days. We sure miss them. My Mom found one of their feathers on the porch today so she's keeping it by her watch and rings on her dresser.

Made Sunday dinner and Josh came over. I grilled tenderloin steaks, boiled some mixed small potatoes and corn on the cob and made a broccoli carrot salad. Everything came out great! That's about all I did today.

See everyone tomorrow!

Lymetoo, My dad has been declining but the MD's think he had a massive stroke. He wasn't off any meds, but whatever medical incident has happened messed up his brain. So, the calming meds have helped. We have now taken him off most meds since he is in hospice.

Ak--Leave your hummingbird feeder up another month to catch any late migrators and then take it down for the season. My nectar will probably freeze soon. Frosted last night.

I see. I was going by what you said about his going off meds for hospice.

I hope today is a better day for all three of you.

AK.. That's amazing about the hummingbird wing. It must be TINY!!!

Did my knee exercises.

Spent time filling out paperwork for hospice for dad.

Mom took dad’s items to be transferred from independent living to nursing home yesterday. The buildings are connected.
They managed to lose all of his belongings. I am so miffed.

Made md appointment for mom.

Talked to dad’s new md. Etc.

Just need to chill out.

Took Mom to the bank and dropped her off back at home then I went and ran to a couple of stores. One stop was my favorite health food store and bought $30 worth of potato starch, arrowroot powder, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, etc. to make pumpkin bread and muffins.

My second stop was to pick up yeast and organic pumpkin in a can and some kidney beans to go in my salad.

Other than that I've been just vegging.

Hiker thanks for the tip about the hummer feeders. I was thinking about taking them down and washing them this week. I'll leave them up til it gets cold. It's going to be in the mid 80's this week! Can't believe they lost your Dad's belongings already! Hope and pray that everything goes OK for you and your folks.

TuTu that feather was so small I missed it completely! My Mom was so thrilled to find it.

Hope everyone has a good evening!

Packing, lifting, carrying, packing, sorting, packing.............

Stopping for a break every now and again.

Hoping to be packed up to head out by Friday afternoon. Though the one bringing the animals will leave very early Sat. morning.

Manna-I can’t imagine moving everything that you have. I’ve lived in my place for 30 years and though I got rid of a lot of stuff last year, if I downsize at some point I don’t even want to think of all the work. How exciting to have a new place, though.

I did my balance exercises today. It was lovely out so I did a little bit of yardwork cutting back a few of the perennials that are turning brown.

I voted today.

I spent quite a bit of time on the phone and email working out some more details for mom and dad. I’m about ready to throw my phone through the window because I’m so sick of being on the phone.

The nursing home found my dad’s belongings. Now he can have a clean pair of pajamas.

Off to work a little bit on Bible study and then fix dinner.

Let's see...today I did a couple loads of laundry. Made breakfast, lunch and dinner for Mom. I had a huge salad for lunch which is my main meal of the day. I have some snacks before 6:00 and after that just liquids until lunch the next day. Hoping to keep off the weight that I've lost.

Manna you sure sound super busy! Moving is a big job but I'm glad you have tons of help!

Hiker thank goodness they found your Dad's clothes! I know what you mean about being on the phone too long! One of my jobs was taking payments over the phone and I hated being on the phone when I got off of work.

I'm watching the news this evening and really need to find something else to watch....sheesh....it can be depressing!

Night all!

Was at the hospital again today with dad. He fell and broke his femur last night. He was sent back to nursing home late this afternoon. Poor guy. So much pain.

My brain is totally fried. Relaxing this evening.

Packing, packing, packing.

Packed one trailer today and discovered we overloaded it. So they boys helped hubby unpack and reload. Hubby is bushed!

We are excited about having a place of our own. It will be so much more fun UNpacking and putting things in there new places.

Daughter is so eager to decorate the house with all her things. They've been packed up for months!

Did the laundry today, so we can take the washer & dryer out. I'm giving my dryer to my Sis-in-law because we have a dryer at our new home. The fridge & stove stayed at our new home too.

Planning to leave here Friday right after lunch and head on out to OUR home! So it'll probably be a little till I can get my computer set up and get back on here again.

So terrible about your dad, hiker.

I hope tomorrow is better.

Manna .. how many acres will you have there?

Have some drama going on with ex and bills. Sigh....

Other than that have spent a relaxing day with Mom. She's been staying in the bed alot after her treatment and hope that she gets plenty of rest.

Manna hope the move on Friday goes without a hitch!

Hiker your poor Dad! Hope and pray that he'll be OK.

Hi TuTu!

Off to finish watching the news after the VP debate.

Lymrtoo, its a little more than 60 acres, mostly woods, in the mountains. We have a pond and a stream. Several barns & outbuildings.

A small town 10 minutes away and a big town with everything 20 minutes away.

Got up early because I woke up too early, went to the bathroom and then couldn't fall asleep again. Should have taken 5htp last night.

The second trailer came last night, so we can start packing it this morning. Some of the family will come this evening to help with packing the trailer.

We thought about renting Uhaul, but they are so busy, they could guarantee nothing! Even if you reserved a truck, there was no guarantee you'd have it that day. So we had friends & family who knew people or had trailers of their own.

Well off to start my day! One more night of sleeping here.

AK—I thought you were done with your ex and his bills.

I had Bible study this morning via zoom. Although I must’ve gotten disconnected about 10 times. I don’t know if it’s my iPad or the Internet connection or bad karma. [Roll Eyes]

I went to the grocery store. I bought healthy food except for the chocolate truffle ice cream that always seems to jump in to my cart. And I normally don’t spend money on a lot of gluten-free specialty items except for pasta, but I did buy some gluten-free waffles to throw in the toaster. I need a change of pace for breakfast.

Such a gorgeous day here that I went outside and trimmed a few bushes back, put seed in the birdfeeders. I wish autumn could stay this way and we could skip winter.

The hospice nurse for my dad called and said that tried to climb out of bed again today and fell. Nothing was injured. Part of the problem is that he’s in isolation because once you come back from the hospital you have to be in Covid isolation for 14 days. That requires the door to the room being closed. So no one can see in and keep an eye on him.

Illinois state law says there cannot be handrails all the way down the bed in nursing homes because they are considered elder abuse. And there cannot be an alarm on the bed that would indicate when he gets out. I just want to keep him safe. And if he hast to go back to the hospital again his 14 day quarantine starts all over.

AK .. tell your ex to take a long hike off a steep cliff. OK .. I didn't say that! LOL
I hope the rest is helping your sweet mom!

Manna... That sounds so heavenly!!! I would be excited too!

Hiker .. It's just so awful that your family is in this position. Nursing home care is just so difficult all the way around.

I went to the nearby city to see my acupuncturist/chiro for the first time this year. My neck and shoulders have been killing me and it's been causing severe headaches too.

I do feel better now, but still having trouble with my pillow and being able to stay in bed as long as I'd like. I wake up after about 6 hours and in too much pain to go back to sleep. UGH.

I also stopped by the Christian book store and got a communion card for the young man we used to teach in Sunday School. I bought a fall decoration for our condo and a few odds and ends.

OH .. I found a DVD of the movie "Overcomer." I saw it two years ago and wanted to see it again. It's really good.

Posted by hiker53 (Member # 6046) on :

Tutu--Overcomer is really good!

Manna-Can’t wait to hear about your new place when you are settled in.

I did my knee exercises today.

Spent the rest of the morning talking to social worker, hospice nurse, dad's md.

Then hired a home care agency to sit in Dad's room 24/7 until quarantine is over. Since the door is closed they aren't able to monitor him as well and he is still trying to get out of bed with his broken femur and was pulling at his catheter today. Doctor ordering pain and calming meds more often. Poor guy.

Turns out the guy at home health agency that I was communicating with was a former student of mine. He helped with the paperwork over the phone. All done by computer, though.

Friend coming over tonight with Chipotle to sit on the patio and chat. I really need my BFF time. [Smile]

Another beautiful day here, although the cloud is hazy. So dry and so dust from farmers harvesting is being stirred up.

Did my balance exercises.

Ran a load of laundry.

Pulled up some dying plants out of a few pots put the pots in the garage for next year.

Worked on Bible study.

Took a short nap.

Probably be a couch potato tonight.

Hi, hiker!

I went up to church to take a trunk load of items up there. I found more flip flops, notebooks, pencils, pencil bags and scissors on Thursday when I got back from the city.

My friend alerted me to the clearance. It was stuff that I've been watching for for two weeks. I have no idea where they have been hiding this stuff!!

I had a full basket and spent only $65. I told the checker that I got a DEAL. The lady behind me who had waited so patiently said, "That was a DEAL!" (yes, I thanked her for being patient.)

So when I got to church, I spent about an hour organizing all of it and straightening the room up. It looks so much better.

We have a FULL box of pencil bags. My right-hand person will chuckle because I keep buying bags and she keeps loading them up! LOL .. She's been taking them home for 6 weeks now and we have about 320 ready to go in the boxes.

What we DON'T know is if we have enough items to FILL 320 boxes. We will see! It's always exciting to see what the count will be. Every single box is a blessing for someone.

AK.. I hope you and your mom are OK.

Manna...keep packing!! [Wink]

Hiker .. all is quiet at the nursing home?

Well I had a meltdown and went downtown for some outdoor music and a few beers. Did this twice in one week which is too much for my mast cells.

My ex has filed bankruptcy and I'm stuck paying a $1,500 Best Buy joint credit card. He's court ordered to pay it so I'm disputing charges with the 3 credit buereas.

Freaking nightmare and might end up having to pay.

Manna your new digs sound like heaven! Hope you get moved in safely.

Hiker the drama with the ex will hopefully end after this. It's been very costly with the attorney fees, credit card debt and paying closing costs to sell the joint property. I sure have been ticked off!

TuTu you and I think alike when it comes to my ex. What a nightmare! I can't imagine ever dating again! I'm leaning more and more towards getting a pet instead. LOL! Way to go on all the bargains!

See you all tomorrow!

[hi]

I'm so sorry, AK .. That is just awful. I hope this will be the last of him.

I don't blame you for your outings, but I know you have been paying big time for them.

A PET sounds great!! I would so love to have one again. We both would, but it's just too hard to keep up with one in a condo. I prefer to have a yard for them.

We would do OK until winter would come along again!!! It's rather hilly out there and few places for the doggies.

Well, we're moved! Its still greatly disorganized, with a few spaces of looking like 'home'. I finally found the curtain boxes after supper this evening and our bedroom has curtains up! Nobody else got any up yet. They hung throw blankets up temporarily.

The girls are on a mouse hunt. A bold one has been coming out and wandering around. One of the girls came down and said they are cleaning out the closet because he kept running in there.

We got here around 7:30 last evening. We unloaded our vehicle and one trailer. The rest of the trailers came this morning. All are unloaded and most of the people have left again.

My brother & his family are staying overnight and a couple extra nieces & nephews are still here. They brought sleeping bags and are bedding down on the available floor space.

The younger boys were awake at 5 this morning. We gave them strict instructions to be QUIET when they wake up tomorrow! But after a second day of carrying boxes up hill and upstairs, they seem to be tired. I think they'll sleep good tonight.

Oh and the leaves are changing colors - its BEAUTIFUL down here! In our hollow they haven't changed as much as they have at some of the places on the way down. So we should get to see these as they change.

The neighbors here are really friendly and as they stop by, welcome us to the neighborhood! Sure different from our previous area!
