Today some of us walked down to the neighbors to say hello to our goats. Nobody was home but the animals, so we petted them then walked back home.

Admired the 'storybook' looking house along the way. Its built of stone and just has a storybook feel to it.

There is another property setting empty with an old vintage pick up truck rusting away. Sonny is quite intrigued with it. Wondering how you would find out who the previous owner is, and if it could be purchased?

Oldest son took his metal detector out on the mountain to see what treasures he can find. Wonder what he might find around the old buildings - they say the house was built in 1900.

Put roast beef in the crock pot over night. It was tender falling off the bones soft - yum! Also made mac & cheese, broccoli, and purple cabbage.

I think I'll take a little nap and then read some more in my book.

Manna—using the metal detector sounds like great fun after I eat your roast beef! What book are you reading. I am now reading Daylight by David Baldacci.

I went to church via zoom.

Did a load of laundry.

Called mom to remind her of her covid test at retirement center tomorrow.

Settling in to read.

Have a great week!! [Cool] [Smile]

Hiker, I'm reading Sunlight Through Dusty Windows, by Dorcas Smucker. She's a Mennonite ministers wife and has written several books. This is 3 in one. She also has a blog that I've been reading for a couple years. I don't often laugh out loud while reading but she can make me do that! LOL

Manna--I will have to check out that author.

I did my knee exercises.

Drove the hour to get mom from the retirement center and take her to the MD. Then drove back since I couldn't go into the retirement center to visit longer.

My BFF has covid in her family. Her husband tested positive and she is waiting results of Saturday's test and will test again tomorrow or Wednesday. Saying prayers!!

Cancelled my chiro appointment for tomorrow since covid is so rampant here.

Thanks TuTu for getting us started for the week! I was busy getting 3 place settings of china, crystal glasses, placemats, napkins, napkin rings and polishing the silverware.

Made an easy dinner of store bought rotisserie chicken, boiled small variety potatoes and a combo broccoli, cauliflower, carrot medley for Sunday dinner. Also sautéed some apples and dried cranberries in butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. We topped it with sugar-free vanilla ice cream. LOL!

Have the Christmas decorations out and put up the lights on the front porch. Had to go buy a timer so now I don't have to worry about turning them on or off.

Today I had to go to the grocery store and also to the military base to make a payment for my Mom. Also managed to do a bit of Christmas shopping. I'm buying just a little at a time and trying to pinch my pennies.

Manna your dinner sounds delicious! What's your son planning to do with the old pickup truck? Hope he can purchase it. I'm with Hiker in regards to the roast and the metal detector. Love to explore places myself and using a metal detector sounds like fun.

Hiker glad you got to spend some time with your Mom. I hate to hear about your BFF having Covid in her household. Sure will be praying for her. Stay safe!

Josh is coming by again tomorrow. He borrowed my car since his wouldn't start on Sunday. He needed a battery (thank God!) so it was an easy fix. He's off this week so we'll probably have binge watching Netflix night with either pizza or tacos this weekend.

Anyways....back to watching some TV!

Sorry to hear about your BFF's family, hiker. I sure hope she will be OK .. and you too.

I got my stitches out today. All is well!!

AK .. I guess I need to get busy on Christmas decorations!! I found the cutest LITTLE nativity today at Mardel. I may have to make another trip for more.

It was on sale and I didn't realize what a great buy it was. It is darling! It's ceramic. I'm going to leave it out all year.

See you guys later!

Tutu--I love nativity sets. Mine is tiny and fits in an oddly shaped glass container from Germany.

I slept in until almost 9 this morning. Must have needed the sleep.

I did my balance exercises this morning.

Worked a bit on Bible study.

Talked to my mom's best friend for quite awhile.

Actually started writing a few Christmas cards. I always seem to end up sending more than I thought I would.

Have a good evening. [Cool]

I'll send you a pic of it, hiker. It is darling.

Baked pies today - 2 apple, 2 pumpkin, and 2 pumpkin custards, one is gluten, sugar & dairy free.

Tomorrow I want to make the mashed potatoes and get the celery chopped for the stuffing. Daughter made her cranberry salad this evening. The bowl was so full she took out a small dish full. She is planning to taste test it tomorrow!

3 of my nephews will be here for supper tomorrow evening. They are coming early & bringing a load of things that didn't come along on moving weekend. The rest of the of them will be here around noon on Thursday.

They said we are to be sure we have some projects lined up that they can help with while they are here. We'll have time to play too!

When Daughter & Son were shopping they bought marshmallows and hot dogs for a campfire if the weather is nice enough. We have lots of blankets to use if we need to while we sit around the fire.

Washed our bedding today and put it back on the bed. We're using flannel sheets, its getting rather cold some nights. One morning the pond had ice on it!

Got some of the canned goods in the bottom of the one closet today. Discovered if I turn the boxes on their sides I can get 3 in a row and then I can put some on the top of the boxes, getting a double layer in.

Made brunch for me and Mom. Spread the water hoses out in the yard and got most of the water out. Will put one in the shed late afternoon tomorrow and then the 100 foot one goes back on the reel.

Tidied up the yard a bit and then did a few things inside while waiting for Josh.

He picked me up around 6:00 and we went to the drive thru for some Mexican fast food and watched a few episodes of a scary show on Netflix.

Now I'm home and tucked into the bed.

Manna I would love to have the gluten, sugar and dairy free recipe for the pumpkin custard! I'm starting my cooking tomorrow too. I'm going to bake the pineapple and brown sugar ham, frozen pumpkin pie, make the potato salad and deviled eggs. I told my Mom that we would be taste testers tomorrow!

TuTu glad your stitches are out. I'm hoping to put up decorations tomorrow. I took all the family photos off the top of our entertainment center and polished it in preparation for the little tree and Christmas knick knacks that go there. We don't decorate like we used to so it won't take to long.

Hiker glad you mentioned Christmas cards. I might try to start mine this weekend. I have a friend that is so busy that I usually get her card in January and sometimes February!

It's that time to read myself to sleep.

I just used my mom's recipe and swapped out the non kosher ingredients for kosher ones.

Pumpkin Pie or Custard
2 c. pumpkin
1 c maple syrup (hers called for 1 1/2 c sugar)
2 c coconut milk (or reg milk)
3 eggs
2 Tablespoons gluten free flour
1 T cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1/4 t ground cloves
1 T butter

Put all ingredients in the blendar and blend. Pour into pie crusts or into a baking dish for custard. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.

I like to put the pumpkin in the blendar first, it has the cup markings on it, then the milk and I don't need to make an extra measuring cup dirty.

Manna-that recipe looks good and easy!

I slept in again. The rain on the roof just makes it so easy to stay under the warm covers.

I did my knee exercises.

I wrote more Christmas cards.

I brought up my Xmas decorations from the basement but have not put them out, yet.

Waterproofed my winter boots. Snow will arrive sooner or later for sure.

Called mom and chatted a long time. Also exercised my lips chatting with my BFF who is in quarantine as her husband has covid.

Off to read the newspaper and do the crossword puzzle.

Thanks Manna for your recipe! I'm going to try it!

Hiker it's in the 70's here. Warm enough for shorts! So glad you had a chance to talk with your Mom for a long time. Hope your friend is doing OK!

I've been busting butt since I woke up and just finished doing the last bit of dishes. Baked and sliced the ham, made potato salad and deviled eggs, cranberry sauce is chilling in its crystal bowl in the fridge and have the turkey brining.

We're eating at 2:00 so I don't have to wake up to early tomorrow. We have just a ten pound turkey and it shouldn't take longer than 2 hours to roast.

Tomorrow I just have to cook the turkey, corn on the cob, peas and carrots, green bean casserole, gravy and rolls.

Piece of cake compared to today!

OK friends, I'm off to La La land! See everyone tomorrow!

Went to a show today .. It was great.

Just cooking for the two of us.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I did some exercise today with my balance exercises and a short walk outside.

Watches the Macy’s parade, some Illini basketball and the national dog show.

I talked to my mom. Very hard day for her without Dad.

I also spent an hour on the phone with an old high school buddy who lives in Michigan. I haven’t talk to her in ages.

I’m getting ready to fix my supper. I will be healthy with the car salad topped with carrots, zucchini, and blackberries. Then I will have my snacks with shrimp, smoked oysters, cheese and crackers, dates and a glass of Chardonnay.

I will probably plop in from the TV with a book this evening.

I am counting all of my blessings today. So many of them!

Hey, gang!

I forgot to watch the parade. I was so busy cooking. I had to be creative since most things had no recipe or I had to look online real quick.

I managed to cook the 3 lb turkey breast in the Instant Pot. Praise God for those things! It came out really nice.

We had GF macaroni and cheese, dressing, gravy, turkey, cranberry sauce, apple pie and cherry cheesecake pie. I think I left out something.

Anyway, it was plenty for us and we are grateful!

Today (Friday) we went to church and put up the Christmas decorations in the sanctuary and decorated the tree. It looks great! Thankfully, our friend from a nearby city came to help.

It's hard for us old people to get all the stuff down from the attic. It's an attic that is easy to access, but it's LOTS of stuff and some things are heavy.

We have a wooden stand for the Advent candle, heavy nativity pieces and the big tree. I think it's 9 ft tall.

So .. I haven't planned out the rest of the day, but there will be no shortage of things to do.

See you guys later this evening!!

Tutu--Your Thanksgiving meal sounds delicious.

I am not sure when our Church is decorating. I suspect the Advent wreath with candles will be out on Sunday, but we usually wait until later for the other decorations.

Today was a day of odds and ends chores.

After I did my knee exercises, I washed and vacuumed the car and used Armour All on the inside.

I cleaned my finch feeder and filled the other feeders.

I swept out the garage.

I took books I bought for Christmas donations to the Star Literacy Drop Off. Then went to the bank and dropped library books off at the library.

I sat down to pay bills and balance the check book while watching the Illini basketball game.

Have a good evening! [Smile]

Can't believe I didn't post yesterday! Cooked way too much food for the 3 of us. Me and Mom noshed on leftovers and put up Christmas decorations today.

I'm wiped out! Oh also did 2 loads of laundry.

Glad to hear everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Hiker I know it had to be real hard for your Mom and you.

I'm going to read and call it a night.

Later friends!

I did a load of laundry.

Did my balance exercises.

Cooked a bit.

Put out some Christmas decorations and am listening to Christmas music. I like the jazz or piano music without singing.

My mom called because she was struggling with making her grocery list. We talked on Monday about adding a few things as a treat for her and she couldn’t remember what they were. Made me very sad. She said she wasn’t going to get out her few Xmas decorations this year, but I hope she will change her mind.

Off to read now.

Today I washed clothes and did a little grocery shopping.

I also found a few dolls and stuffed animals on sale for OCC .. yes, for next year!!

I baked another apple pie tonight for Sunday. Hey, why not? [Big Grin]

Hiker, I hope your mom gets herself some treats. It's so sad that she is alone now.

PS .. I took the morning glory vines down. It's only a memory now! Going to be cold all week, starting tomorrow.

AK .. your home decorations looked great! I hope I can get my hubby to get ours out of the garage soon because I'm ready to put it all up!

Another day of exercising my stretchy pants! LOL! In other words a day of noshing on leftovers and I'm not complaining! I should be but.....

Mom and I hung the Christmas swags on the curtain rods in the living room and dining room. So we are completely done now.

I went to the karate dojo to return the empty wine bottle that was filled with pineapple wine. I polished it off on Thanksgiving evening.

Did one load of laundry. Went and gassed up the car and Mom rode with me so we stopped at the PX to shop around for just a bit.

Later I went to Josh's to pick up some shirts and pants to iron for him. I know....he's super spoiled!

I am so afraid to step on the scale! I'm waiting to be done with the leftovers and then will have to pay the piper, face the music, etc. Oh boy!

TuTu I can't wait to shop after Christmas! You know there's going to be some crazy good deals then. Wonderful that you're starting on OCC for next year.

Hiker I haven't listened to any Christmas music yet! What the heck is wrong with me?! I better get with the program. I usually have something playing while decorating but I dropped the Christmas ball this year. Thinking about you and your Mom.

Me and my stomach (now a separate entity) are heading for bed. Hope there's enough room! LOL!
