Here we go with another week of shaking and baking, moving and grooving!

We like to post our activities here to encourage one another to be as active as possible.

If you're baking, walking, doing dishes, cleaning house, weight training, working in the garden, etc. please post it here. We'd love to hear about anything that gets you moving!

[woohoo]

Just wanted to add my post from last night....

My uncle in Okinawa passed away yesterday so haven't been doing a whole lot. I thought he was doing OK but he passed away in his sleep. My Mom took it very hard since he was the last of her immediate family. He was 5 years younger than her.

So we're grieving and doing the best we can.

I'm still watering all the outside stuff but not much else.

Hiker I'm so glad your appointment went well! Yay! So nice that you had a wonderful time with your friend too!

Manna those jellies sound so exotic! I've heard of dandelion wine but not jelly. When I was in Okinawa I ate cactus ice cream and was wondering if it was going to be painful. LOL! I enjoy hearing about all the activities and it sure helps motivate me to get off the couch!

See you all tomorrow!

AK—I know you and your mom must be grieving terribly. I am sorry for your family’s loss.

I went to church via zoom.

Did 2 loads of laundry.

Filled the bird feeder and watered the strawberries. Very dry here but supposed to snow Tuesday and have several days of hard frost. Guess winter isn’t quite done with us.

Called mom and then chatted with my BFF. Her school just went remote due to covid after being open all year. Yet, they are allowing sports and club activities to continue. I think they have it backwards since the basketball team is what caused the spread.

Time to be a couch potato.

Hi, everyone!

I'm so sorry about your uncle, AK. I'm just so glad you and your mom went to see him. Wasn't it right before Covid??

Hang in there. I'm sure it's REALLY hard for your mom with his being younger than her and the last one.

I really have been around, just haven't posted lately. I was watching a two-day conference Friday and Saturday. Loved it.

I washed a few loads of clothes this weekend. I'm all caught up with one load in right now.

The weather has been pleasant and cool .. 60's for the highs. One more week of cool! We get rain now and then. It was rainy around noon today.

I took a nap because I was SO tired. The mistake I made was not using my CPAP for the nap. I woke up with a headache. Now I realize why I get headaches sometimes after a nap. I think it's because my oxygen levels drop! EEK.

Well.... I think I need to get busy doing the taxes. Sigh.

PS .. I've now made more than 200 little birdies.

Thank you all for the sympathy. It's been hard on my Mom and I'm worried about her. Josh came by for dinner and his sister called to talk with Mom.

I washed and changed my bedding and helped cook dinner and cleaned the kitchen.

Still not 100% after having a bout of anaphylaxis this weekend. Tomorrow is my second dose of the Covid vaccine but I'm calling ahead to make sure that will be OK.

Time to read a bit before bed. Night all!

AK--Hope vaccine went well.

Did my knee exercises.

Worked on Bible study.

Paid bills.

Then worked on a poem and wrote a letter to a friend.

Went to recycling and noticed my keyless remote for my car was very low on battery. Stopped at the dealership and they gave me batteries for both remotes free.

Cooking a chicken breast now.

Baking day. Tried a sourdough bread again, one batch of white and one whole wheat. Still not happy with it. Didn't rise very high, and the whole wheat barely rose at all!

Had a nice day, though I haven't really been outside yet. If I have time, I'd like to plant impatiens seeds.

Hubby worked at fixing rust on the one vehicle again today.

Sonny cleaned out the one vehicle - used the shop vac and water & cleaners!

Ak, sorry to hear about your uncle and that your mom is having such a hard time. It would be hard knowing your the only one left of your family/siblings.

Hiker my second vaccine went OK but they made me an appointment to see the allergist next Monday for the severe anaphylaxis I had late Friday/early Saturday.

I had to take prednisone and an extra allergy pill before the vaccine. I have some facial swelling but I can't tell if it's from mast cells or the Moderna. My arm isn't even sore and I feel so-so.

Still watered the garden bed, seed plots and some lawn oh and the potted plants. Picked up dinner for me and Mom and I'm ready to hit the hay.

Manna thank you for the sympathy. It's hard when your family is so very far away. I've been checking every day for any grass or moonflowers to sprout up out of the ground. I know it's way to soon but it sure is something to look forward to when I go outside.

I need to work in the yard some more but I might take a day off and fast to get my histamine down. What a time to get sick! I've got so much to do!

Well, time to read myself to sleep. Night all!

Did my balance exercises.

Then went to Area Recreation Center to pick up my new id key fob. Won't be using it much due to covid, though.

Went to chiropractor and have been taking it easy since then for adjustment to hold.

Since it was snowing today and chilly, I thought a nap was appropriate this afternoon.

Have a good evening.

We drove to the nearby state for our dental appointments. It started snowing right after we got there. Pretty uneventful drive until the last 30 miles or so.

It got ramped up and looked like a danged blizzard! LOL . Thank goodness it was 34 degrees.

Home now and ready to crash.

Lovely sunshine and warm today! Hung two loads of table cloths out on the line.

Planted Impatiens seeds in a tray. Carried all the tomato, pepper, and sweet potato seedlings out of the greenhouse. Gathered up pots and trays to transplant more seedlings - celery, parsley, and a few others.

Heard from our married son, that its snowing at his house today! Checked the weather and tomorrow we have a chance of snow mixed with rain..... and a low of 29 Thursday morning.

So I think we will pack everything we can into the greenhouse tonight. And bring the rest into the house or cover it with something. Decided not to do any more transplanting or I'd have so many more pots to put under shelter.

Oh yes, I have 3 baby moonflowers up! I'm delighted!

Met up with a neighbor lady who was out looking for her dog. He comes to say hello to our dog.

Hubby worked at fixing rust on one of the vehicles today.

Sonny worked at sorting things stashed in one of the sheds. Burned some trash, put a few things in the attic, stacked a few boxes together that we're saving for someone, and flattened other boxes to use as mulch to keep weeds down in the garden.

My arm is a bit swollen and sore and I've had a headache all day from the vaccine. Also have some facial swelling. So I've stayed in bed all day except to water things outside.

Had some cheese and crackers today and that was about it. Not real hungry.

Hiker sounds like we both relaxed today!

TuTu glad you guys made it home safely!

Manna love to hear about all the things you all are doing! Exciting news about the moonflowers!

Time to read for a bit before bed. Night all!

AK .. [Frown]

Hope you feel better soon.

I went grocery shopping this morning.

Did my knee exercises.

Went to the library.

Of course I called my mom.

Took another nap today. Not sure why I am tired.

The snow has melted, so I am sure, Manna, that yours will not last long. But we have another hard freeze tonight. The positive is that maybe that will help my pollen allergies.

Off to make chicken salad for dinner.

Snowed off and on all day long. Sometimes it looked like a blizzard out there! Late afternoon the sun peeked through a few times. The snow melted almost as fast as it came down because the ground was too warm.

We have a heater in the greenhouse and hope it doesn't get too cold.

Today I worked at a sewing project. Though didn't actually do any sewing. I took ladies dresses apart to cut them down to make little girls dresses. Have 1 left to take apart from the first banana box full. Have a second box full waiting.

Daughter finished sewing her jeans quilt together this evening. She is working at knotting it together.

Hubby & Sonny put more boxes and things up in the attic this afternoon. Our storage room upstairs is slowly getting bigger!

Feeling much better today and took Mom to her hearing aid appointment and we went to a couple of stores for a few things.

When we got home we started working on a sewing project too Manna. We tag teamed a coffee table sized ottoman cover for Josh. He picked a green plaid fabric and we quit around 10:00 tonight and then scarfed down some leftovers for dinner.

Tomorrow just have the hemming left and attaching the ties for the legs and one tie in the middle since the ottoman is so long.

Also the plan is to do some more yardwork. Hope I can get out there.

Hiker do you think it's the weather making you tired? I feel like that when it rains sometimes. Still can't believe you had snow!

Manna I bet your daughter's quilt looks great! I was saving fabric for a jeans quilt too but I finally gave up. You guys have snow too? I talked with a friend of mine in AK and she was telling me they had a lot of snow this year. I was hoping for snow down here but it's very rare.

Well...off to surf the net!

Manna .. I agree! It looked like a blizzard here too! I told my husband, "Can you imagine being in a real blizzard?" It was nothing compared to a real one, but it was coming down very heavily and we were driving in it.

Had my sleep study last night. I didn't sleep very well .. but that's because I wasn't allowed to use my CPAP machine. I've been home about 3+ hours and I'm in need of some real sleep!!

We still have construction going on next to us, so as soon as they go to lunch, I'm crashing.
I'm sure this test was "positive" so that means I have to do it again next week with the CPAP on.

They said this would prove to the insurance company that I need the CPAP.

That jeans quilt does sound amazing! I never have jeans that are old enough. I'd have to find some at thrift shop or something.

I guess I won't get much accomplished today, but I am washing a load of clothes right now. Just ate a real breakfast.

AK... You're feeling better then?

See ya!!!!! [hi]

Posted by hiker53 (Member # 6046) on :

Tutu--Sorry you have to jump through a lot of hoops for your insurance company to get the CPAP.

AK--Glad you are feeling better.

Manna--In an different life I would make sure I learned to sew, quilt, and knit. LOL

I did mend a shirt that had a tear in it today by hand.

I had Bible study this morning via zoom.

I did my balance exercises.

Talked to mom for quite a while.

Did a smidgen of weeding. Chilly and windy and I felt too lazy to do more. Seems like I just weeded the same area a week ago.

Am grilling a burger for dinner. Will grill 2 and have one tomorrow night. Side salad and some broccoli to go with the burger.

Posted by MannaMe (Member # 33330) on :

Hiker, we had burgers tonight also. Baked burgers & fries. One of the boys cooked tonight.

Baking day. Daughter baked her cookies this morning while hubby, son & I ran an errand. I started the bread as soon as we got home. Finished baking just before supper. Still have a dozen loaves to slice and bag up.

Was partly sunny today and chilly. Saw a few snow flurries drifting by a few times.

Had a heater in the greenhouse and the plants survived the cold night. Supposed to be one degree warmer tonight. Still freezing at 31*.

I'm tired tonight.

I am feeling better TuTu. I still have a bit of facial swelling but that might be from the apple cider vinegar.

Today I made dinner ahead of time and brunch. Then I started working in the yard. Weeded the area around my monkey grass and creeping phlox.

Ran to the hardware store for more compost and manure and 2 bags of large pine bark nuggets.

Put some of the manure around the plants and then raked until about 8:00. I'm trying to dethatch the front lawn and might spread thicker lawn on it.

So I was working around 4-5 hours! I'm totally wiped out!

TuTu I sure hope you're able to get some rest after that sleep study. Sure doesn't sound restful.

Hiker I have more yardwork tomorrow and we have leftovers so I don't plan on cooking. Those burgers sound delicious!

Manna I bet baking day makes your house smell wonderful! I'm tired too and am ready to call it a night!

See everyone tomorrow!

AK .. on a side note... I took a benadryl at 3:30 a.m. during the sleep study. The guy said, "Are you sure you'll be able to drive home?" I said, "No worries!" I was fine. Left there at 6:30.

I managed to sleep from 11:30 this morning to about 2 pm. Then I fell asleep listening to a video from 8-9 pm.

I bet I will still sleep fine tonight! [Smile]

Another fairly lazy day for me.

Did my knee exercises.

Make blueberry muffins.

Talked to my brother and then to my mom.

Looked over medical bills that are still coming in from before Dad died in October.

Balanced my checkbook.

Took a short nap.

I have a gal coming tomorrow who is going to divided some of my large hostas and take some, so I walked around looking at which ones need to be divided. I noticed a couple did not come back from the winter and that has never happened. Of course, they were my unusual ones.

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Hiker .. My hosta didn't make it. I had one for a long time that died about 2 years ago. I think the one that died this year was one I bought last year.

Mine are in pots, so I think they are more vulnerable to the cold.

My favorite nursery will be open Monday. They had planned to open today, but the latest freeze set them back a little.

So .. the rest of today, I ran a few errands and picked up meds at the pharmacy.

I slept about 9 hours last night and was still tired. I guess it will take another day to catch up.

Our Bible study group is having a shower for a young woman who lives here. Her mother and step-dad live next door to them. (She's married and is a teacher.)

Then I think our friends are coming from north of the city and will go to the show that hubby will be subbing in tomorrow night. I'll be exhausted after all of that!!

Laundry day today. Using the dryer again.

Transplanted a flat each of celery and parsley. I still have more to transplant. Hope to sell the extra's.

The plants did well in the greenhouse with the heater.

We started some spinach and lettuce in the mini greenhouse water jugs. Both grew very nice! I planted them out on the edge of the terraced strawberry bed. They'll be over before the strawberries grow big enough to need the whole bed.

Hoping to get up in my sewing room tonight. Last evening I helped my daughter finish knotting her jeans quilt. Now she needs to trim the edges even and put binding on it.

Gabbed with my sis-in-law awhile.

Hubby took it easy today.. rested, washed dishes after lunch, rested some more.

Didn't sleep too well but had to get up because our cable company came out. They arrived shortly after 10:00.

Our off and on issues with the phone and internet have been going on since March. They finally figured out that the issue was the line at the pole so they moved ours to a different one.

I overdid it in the yard and was out there about 4 hours. Finished raking/dethatching and pulled many little oak trees in the lawn. Cleaned up the end drain of the French drain I put in last year. Watered everything but the lawn.

I'm totally wiped out and am going to do as little as possible this weekend!

TuTu I'm very envious of all the sleep you're getting! I'm doing good if I can get 5 hours. My mast cells are still acting up since last Friday and now I'm having stomach issues! Never had them before but I have them now. Hope you enjoy your show!

Hiker I'm considering putting in some Hostas also. I'd like to do some type of border along the sidewalk to our front porch but that's on the back burner until I take care of the lawn issues. Had leftovers for dinner again and am glad they're gone!

Manna I looked briefly at some veggie plants at my local hardware store since I have so much room in my raised bed garden. They even had Japanese eggplants and cucumbers! I just can't decide what to plant.

Well gang I'm calling it a day! It's 8:08 and I'm wiped out!

See everyone tomorrow!

[hi]

Ak, try a few of as many veggies as you can, and see how they do for you. Then you'll know better for next year which ones you want. And its always fun to add at least one new thing each year!

I have asparagus plants ordered, which my son didn't realize. He bought a pack of 3 roots at Walmart. I planted them in pots and they are sending up little shoots already! We don't have their bed ready yet.

It rained this morning but was gorgeous this afternoon.

I did 2 loads of laundry.

Did a bit of weeding outside.

Gal stopped by to dig some hostas. Wish she had taken more as some of my plants are really getting big. Turned out she was a student at the school where I taught years ago but I didn’t have her in class.

I cooked my healthy salmon, asparagus and sweet potato Saturday noon meal. Am having tomato sauce with rice pasta and a salad tonight. A friend gave me several bottles of organic premade sauce after dad died and I need to use it. Normally I make my own.

Have a good evening.

Had sunshine this morning, cloudy this afternoon with a few sprinkles. The ground is wet.

Worked outside this morning. The boys finished putting upright log pieces in for the side/border of the one terraced strawberry bed. Gathered up more logs to do the second one, but with it raining it will wait till next week.

I weeded most of the tea patch. Very happy to see most of the tea I brought along and planted is growing. Not very big and not enough to harvest yet.

Hubby and Sonny fixed the mower and then both of them were out mowing until it rained.

Daughter made supper tonight - homemade pizzas! I'm stuffed!

Posted by aklnwlf (Member # 5960) on :

It's funny how both of you had Italian for dinner! I was craving pizza too but passed and ate Mom's half a ham sandwich that she didn't eat yesterday. Opened a can of organic golden lentil soup and called it dinner!

Good idea Manna about trying new veggies. I love asparagus and would like to plant a permanent bed myself. Need to get something planted because I have some heavy duty yard work coming up next week.

I'm envious of your homemade sauce Hiker! I buy sauce in a jar and add seasonings. Found a 2 pound Italian pre-made meatloaf and am cooking that for Sunday dinner along with little variety potatoes and a veggie.

Off to find something to do this evening! Mom is already in bed at 8:24 so I might just look at landscaping ideas online.

Night everyone!
