Title:
Predicting distributions of blacklegged ticks (Ixodes scapularis), Lyme disease spirochetes (Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto) and human Lyme disease cases in the eastern United States

" A total of 288 counties were classified as highly suitable for B. burgdorferi s.s., but lacked records of infected-I. scapularis and were not classified as high incidence.

These counties were considered to represent a leading edge for B. burgdorferi s.s. infection in ticks and humans.

They clustered in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

This information can aid in targeting tick surveillance and prevention education efforts

in counties where Lyme disease risk may increase in the future."

This study was done by a big group here:

Division of Vector-Borne Diseases, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Fort Collins, CO 80521, United States

One would think they would make a better estimate than "300,000 to 40,000 cases" of Lyme disease yearly. [A pretty obvious typo! Theirs, not mine!]

And if they were studying cases in the Eastern US, how did they end up with 288 counties in the Midwest????

I couldn't get the whole article. Would love to see it.

I just assume Lyme is everywhere even in my backyard.

But it would be nice to have more statistics.

No deer ticks here in Preble county, only brown dog ticks.
After the farmers nuke everything with giant field sprayers, and arial attack planes it is a wonder anything here survives.

I get more damage from chems. than ticks.

Farm and yard chems. are the real problem not my truck exhaust.

Hi Maddog!
Been thinking about you! How are you doing these days!
I hope you have all procedures, treatments and remedies under control.
Good to hear your truck is still running.
