Welcome to the exercise thread.

As we finish up August 2022 and move into September, we encourage you to get up and move as much as you can.

Are you walking, harvesting the fruits of your garden labor, washing windows, shopping, baking? Anything counts!

Hope you have a great week! [woohoo]

I watched our church service. Good sermon by the Episcopal Chaplain of a local hospital.

I did a load of laundry.

Took the recycling to the bins at the grocery store lot.

Yakked with my mom.

Took a short nap.

Hot and humid today but we are getting some much-needed rain now.

Probably watch a chick flick tonight on TV.

Thanks Hiker for starting us off this week!

I didn't do too much today. Made a soup of leftover potatoes and brocolli and toasted cheese and tomato bread for brunch.

Made one of Josh's favs for dinner, pepper steak and rice. Also made a small salad.

Then we chatted until 10:00.

Mom's been asleep for awhile and I'm getting ready to read.

Oh, we both did PT today.

Night all!

Catch-up for the week. .

Still have my guest staying with me. Lots of great conversations (we talk for hours) and food, especially homemade Thai, Chinese and vegan dishes.

I have been swimming most days but also have added walking around the neighborhood, as I now have a walking buddy. The weather has been brutally hot, humid and uncomfortable. We try to exercise before noon.

We went to large Mall for clothes shopping. I had difficulty 1/2 way through as it was just too much. Knees, feet and back wouldn’t cooperate as well as all the stimulus lights and noise.

Gave my cat his 1st bath!
He was surprisingly chill and let me really lather him up. He looks marvelous and very handsome.

Weird thing happened yesterday. My neighbor knocked at my door asking for help. She said she was unwell, alone and very scared. I said of coarse, come in and helped her to recliner. I took her temp and oxygen levels and heart rate. All normal.

She told me her symptoms. She told me she has been to ER twice and multiple doctors who determined it to be anxiety. She looks unwell. Her symptoms scream Lyme!

I walked her back home after her husband got home from work.
I’m writing a list of tests for her primary to order to get her started.
Then an LLMD if needed. Oh, I hope not Lyme.

I had a B-day party scheduled for tomorrow. As I have all my gatherings outside, I had to cancel until the weather cools down. Everyone’s fine with it. Covid is STILL getting people very sick.

Stay safe everyone. Hope your having a GREAT summer.🌞

Update

Two family members called to tell me they are sick and tested positive for covid.

I was with them last Monday, exactly one week ago, outside.
I am showing no symptoms.

Posted by hiker53 (Member # 6046) on :

BB--Omicron hits pretty quickly, so if you have no symptoms, you probably escaped Covid. Pray that is the case. Being outside helps!

I got up early to make a call for mom to the State Retirement System. Usually I am on hold forever, but I had no wait time today.

I did my knee exercises, feet exercises and shoulder exercises.

Went to my chiropractor. She is such a positive upbeat person.

Then went across the parking lot to a different chiropractor where I get supplements. The elderly chiropractor asked why I was wearing a mask and so I asked him why he wasn't. He proceeded to lecture me that masks don't help and lecture me on the vaccine.

I simply asked him he if wanted to make money today or if he was going to continue to be rude. His son-in-law stepped in and shut the guy up apologizing for his behavior.

I always buy my Mg, probiotic, zinc and milk thistle there and have for almost 20 years and I think the younger guy realized they were about to lose a customer. That is the first time anyone since Covid entered our world has asked me why I wear a mask.

Called mom this afternoon.

Filled the safflower feeder again. Whoever made up the term, "eats like a bird," didn't know what they were talking about. lol

Then went to the library and stopped to gas up the car.

Just took the garbage to the curb. So hot and humid today, but we are under a thunderstorm watch, so maybe we will get some rain.

Off to fix dinner. [hi]

Hi all! Me and Mom went to our fav thrift mall and walked around for over 2 hours. Scored on candles, a large plant pot, Dansko sandals, a halter tankini top, short brown wig (LOL, if it's not wigs it's hats) button downs for Josh and yes, chips.

After unloading everything we went out to dinner.

We're both beat!

BB hope you don't have Covid. I'm still having sinus issues from my bout of it. Also that was so kind of you to help your neighbor. Sure hope they an find out what's going on with her. BTW, got a chuckle from the cat bath.

Hiker trash day for me too. Felt like a sauna out there at 8:00 p.m. Can't believe the chiro! Mrs. H still has a cough from her bout of Covid and 2 other people too. My sinuses are still causing issues but getting slowly better.

Working early tomorrow from 8-12 so time to read and then hit the hay.

Stay cool friends!

The rain never materialized here last night although a town 20 minutes away got 2 inches. So, I watered the flowers this morning.

I did my balance exercises and feet exercises.

Cleaned the kitchen (even mopped the floor) and the bathroom.

Had a retired firefighter come clean the lint out of my 30 year old dryer. It was taking a long time to dry clothes and he took the dryer apart and cleaned the motor and everywhere else. The air velocity jumped from 22 feet per second to 38.

So, my clothes will dry faster and I won't burn the house down with all that lint. And it was sure a lot cheaper than buying a new dryer! Cleaning the lint screen each time is not enough if you have an older dryer!

AK--Sounds like you hit the bonanza at the thrift mall. Wigs?

Chatted with my next-door neighbor for quite a while.

Time to fix dinner and settle down with a good book.

Today was a lazy day. Really didn't get much done.

Emptied & refilled the dishwasher.

Brought in two crates of quart jars for canning tomatoes.

Got two conatainers of tomatoes out of the freezer to defrost.

Washed a dishpan full of sweet potatoes to cut up to can.

Took a nap.

Had a thunderstorm last night and rain off n on today. Could have shared that rain with you Hiker, we didn't need it.

Made supper tonight. A tomato pie and for dessert a strawberry/blueberry/apple delight. (graham cracker crust, whipped cream/cream cheese layer, with pie filling on top. Used the leftover pie filling from our mountain pie supper. So each one could choose which flavor they wanted.

Should fold some wash tonight.

Went shopping this morning.
Then went for coffee.
I dropped off a piece of peach pie to neighbor.

Wanted to take walk around the neighborhood but the weather was constantly changing, sun out then angry gray clouds then rain. I saw my first rainbow this summer so I made a wish on it.

My sunflowers are now 10” tall and have attracted yellow and black marking birds? They are so pretty. I hope they leave me some seeds.

I did light stretches on the porch this morning. Change of scenery makes a lot of difference mentally wise. And I must have music playing.

Did load of clothes.

Took dog for walk.

Made a nice dinner, stuffed pork chops, scallop potatoes and fresh cucumbers and tomato salad with olive oil and spices. We were so full.

Reading a new library book that I can’t put down. I love when that happens!

After work made me and Mom cheese toast and some soup.

Then we headed to Ft Benning to renew my visitor's pass. Gassed up the car and while on post went to visit my Dad's grave and replace the artificial flowers.

Stopped by Mom's BFF on the way home to deal with an issue with a medical bill that she has.

Then home and ate some non seafood sushi for dinner.

Hiker a friend of mine got me hooked on wigs. I love hats too. Sometimes if I go out for an evening I'll throw on a wig. Fun to dress up a bit every now and again.

BB your dinner sounds amazing!

Manna now I want some pie!

Off to watch some TV!

Pie? Did someone mention pie? Sounds heavenly.

BB--I love scalloped potatoes. Haven't had those in ages. What book are you reading? I am reading the new Dan Silva book entitled, "Portrait of an Unknown Woman."

I got up early and grabbed the paper off the porch. Saw a large coyote in my neighbor’s yard. Much larger than his German Shepherd.

I went grocery shopping this morning. Brats were buy one get one free packages, so now I have 10 bratwursts. Obviously freezing them in small packets but look forward to grilling or broiling them.

I warmed up on the exercise bike and then did my knee exercises, feet exercises, and shoulder stretches.

Called mom.

Then chatted with a former colleague who is recovering from Covid. She is 75 but her medical clinic refuses to prescribe the antiviral, Paxlovid, saying there are too many rebound cases that end up worse than the original case. I haven't heard of anyone who has taken it and not had a rebound case.

Worked outside cutting back the peony bushes and using the grass trimmer around the hostas. The extension on my downspout was loose, so I drilled a hole and added a nut & bolt to tighten it.

Then I came in and lay in the recliner for 30 minutes. Even though it was only 83, that was too hot for me to work outside for long. I have a genetic condition where I do not sweat much, so I overheat very easily.

Cooking a porkchop now and will have it with tossed salad and zucchini.

Funny you mentioned a downspout Hiker. I hit one on the carport and need to fix it or have the handyman fix it. The screw attaches from the underside into the brick and a section of the downspout would have to be removed to get to it...sigh.

Had some dizziness today so did the Eply maneuver and wearing a neck brace. Thanks Hiker for the info.

We had soup and cheese toast again today. Later we had leftovers.

I fell asleep watching TV this afternoon and it's only a little after nine and I'm ready for bed.

Stay cool friends!

I did deep a watering watering of my plants including my bushes. Took over an hour.

Then did my balance and feet exercise.

Used Murphy’s Oil Soap to clean the outside of my kitchen cabinets. Then shined up the handles.

Tried to take a nap but couldn’t sleep so filled a few of the bird feeders and then read.

Leftovers for dinner.

No pool today so we took a brisk 30 minute walk around neighborhood.

Went into garage and thought about a bike ride.
I wanted to but the risk of serious injuries stopped me.
It’s difficult to realize the things you can’t do anymore.

Sick neighbor called me crying, asking if I could come over and babysit her. When I got there, she was shaking and could barely lift her head. Sat with her for 4 hours and she was feeling better.

She is in the medical maze unfortunately.

When I got home I was exhausted. Couldn’t believe the toll it took on me. I have to be careful and know my limits.

Sat outside and brushed all my animals. They never want me to stop, lol. It relaxes me to be around loving animals.

Will watch President Biden’s speech and then early bedtime.

Sat with Mrs H today then home to cook dinner.

Had to run to the liquor store and then pick up meds and bread afterwards.

Home to water plants and help Mom with her evening PT.

I did my SI joint, shoulder and shoulder blade PT this morning.

Talked with my AK bestie and she encouraged me to hit the gym. Her and a friend are circuit training 3 times a week.

Calling my PT also to continue shoulder and shoulder blade exercises and he'll probably add new ones.

TV time!

Baking day. I baked 34 loaves of bread and 2 packs of dinner rolls. Someone requested the rolls. Daughter baked 14 dozen cookies and Sonny is working on his 3 dozen whoopie pies.

Hubby sawed more lumber.

This afternoon I weeded the flowerbed beside the steps and mulched it. Looks better now. First year for a flowerbed there. The geraniums and four oclocks are doing okay. The petunias are not. I'll have to decide what might grow best there next year.

The next batch of chicks should soon start hatching. We candled the eggs and threw out about 6 or so tonight.

We have a hummingbird. Saw it flying around the peach tree and the Indian corn. Or maybe its a pair and they have a nest? We'll have to look for flowers that hummingbirds like and plant those.

Manna--Do you ever break gluten free bread or cookies to sell?

Ak--Hope you can get back to the gym and back to PT.

I baked blueberry muffins this morning.

Rode the exercise bike to warm up for my knee and feet exercises. Feet hurt a lot today and I have already iced them once.

Talked to my college friend who lives in FL for quite a while. Then called my mom.

Took a 90 minute nap this afternoon. Didn't sleep well last night so I needed it.

Did a quick run to Walgreens. And also went to the public library.

I didn't defrost anything, so a salad and store-bought gluten free pizza again. Seems to be my Friday evening trend. Then I will watch University of Illinois football.

Hi, everyone!

My brother and his wife came this week and we had great weather and a great time!!

We did a "canyon golf cart tour" which included entrance to a HUGE Native American museum. It was so big that we couldn't finish it. We skipped most of the Civil War part.

The Native American section is larger than the Native American museum at the Smithsonian. It was pretty amazing!

But the cart tour is really fun. I took my other brother through it 2 years ago. He loved it too. It's full of waterfalls and canyons. The weather was so awesome that day.

Yesterday, we went to see a huge production about Jesus. It was really something. Loved it.

Like hiker, I took a 2 hour nap this morning after they left because I've been sleeping on an inflatable bed all week. Plus .. no naps all week. LOL.

It will be great to sleep in my bed tonight!

We had two inches of rain last night! whoop!

Woke up very tired. My sick neighbor visit drained me. It’s hard to get comfortable in someone else’s home and talking to someone for 4 hours takes a lot of energy. But I would do it again for anyone in need.

Must be nap day because I too took a 2 hour nap. Felt SO much better!

Got into pool for 2 hours. First hour was cleaning and vacuuming pool then I did 50 assorted laps. I was a good tired but when I came in the house, I was restless so went for a 30 minute walk around the neighborhood.

I LOVE SUMMER!

Gave dog another bath because she was itchy. She has allergies.
She ate then took a nap too.

Bummed because I can’t watch any of Serena’s US Open tennis matches because I refuse to pay for cable.

No, I haven't done any gluten free baking to sell. I tried gluten free things for my Hubby and he preferred to go without rather than eat that stuff! He didn't like the bought gluten free breads either.

We do have a Monster cookie recipe that is gluten free, from years ago before gluten free was a thing. They did make those to sell, but they are an expensive cookie to make. They get chocolate chips and m&m's and peanutbutter.

Finished putting the floor in the new guinea house yesterday. Next is building the walls.

Today I need to pick tomatoes & beans, finish folding wash, start a second batch of 7 day pickles.

Manna--I agree that the store-bought GF bread is horrible. I make decent GF muffins and zucchini bread and the cauliflower crust pizza I buy is pretty good. But then again, I haven't eaten a real pizza in years, so it might taste awful to someone else.

BB--Your neighbor is blessed to have you! I did watch the US Open Tennis last night. It was a good match. Serena was outplayed, though.

Tutu--The cart tour sounds wonderful.

I did one load of laundry. And I watered the flowers.

I did do my balance exercises and feet exercises.

But then, aside from a little cooking, I have been napping or reading this afternoon.

May watch a little tennis tonight on TV and read.

Picked beans this morning. Got about 2 household buckets full. Also had a few in the fridge from earlier pickings. So the children helped trim and snap beans. They are waiting to be packaged up and frozen.

Picked the tomatoes again. I don't think we are going to get enough from our plants for all the tomato things we wanted to can. I'll have to see if I can buy a couple bushels.

Picked the pickles. They are nearly blighted away so there won't be many more to pick. Started another batch of 7 day pickles. Got about 3 pints of pickle relish canned.

Took the 19 chicks that hatched out of the incubator. Will see how many more are hatched till morning.

Picked the summer squash. I planted a medley of summer squash, so there is a variety of kinds. Now I need to come up with creative ways to preserve it.

Gave Hubby and oldest son hair cuts tonight.

Splitting headache woke me up at 5:00! Took my RX strength Ibuprofen and once pain abated started my day.

Made a much needed pot of coffee and after a cup ran to pick up water and breakfast.

Waited for my Mom to wake up so we could eat together.

Went to a friend's house to watch college football and had a blast.

Home about 9:40 to do PT for Mom and rub her back with Voltaren cream.

Have another headache and getting ready to zonk out.

Manna I cut my Mom's hair too. Me and my Mom sit on the porch every morning to watch the hummingbirds. It's the highlight of our day.

Hiker I bought 2 gluten free cookbooks a couple years ago and they have alot of bread recipes. I need to try some of them.

TuTu going to the museum is right up my alley. I used to be a member in AL but haven't paid for a membership here in GA yet. I've only been here for 7 years now. LOL!

BB caring for sick folks while not 100% yourself is one of the hardest things to do. Hope you feel better soon.

Night everyone!

Yesterday I went shopping for needed Holiday supplies.
Stores were deserted, in and out.
As usual, everything outdoors, everyone pitches in.

Went swimming for 1 hour. It was so hot, I had trouble getting oxygen into lungs. Took it VERY slow.

Took dog for walk to mailbox.
No neighborhood walk, it was too hot.

Sat on porch, sweat dripping, jumped back into pool.

Threw 1/2 chicken on grill but forgot about it. Burned it to a crisp.
Had corn on the cob in pot of water and forgot about that too.
Brain fog is back. Have to be very careful.

Neighbor to the right, brought over green beans, squash, tomatoes, and all kinds of peppers. No More Peppers!

Neighbor to the left, brought over heirloom tomatoes.
I never had them, thought there was something wrong with them, purple seeds and weird shapes.

I googled them and realized how ignorant I am, lol.
Then I ate them and they were so sweet! I’m saving the seeds for sure!
