I had TKR 3 weeks ago. The pain is still er bad in my whole leg. Not just my knee
I am wondering if this is from my neuropathy from my Lyme causing it to still be so bad or if it's normal for everyone..It just burns up and down my leg.

A well- respected LLMD has posted several blogs about knee replacement and Lyme infection.

The authors considered three potential reasons for Lyme arthritis following an operation:

1. "The spirochete, at times, evades complete eradication and lies dormant in host tissue, most notably joint, nervous, and cutaneous sites in humans."

2. "Alterations to immune surveillance as a result of surgery or mechanical exposure of dormant B. burgdorferi spirochetes during surgery with influx of immune cells into the joint are possible explanations for such a condition."

3. Lyme arthritis periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is also possible and may be related to B. burgdorferi's biofilm.

"These cases highlight the importance for providers practicing in Lyme-endemic regions to keep such an infection in mind when evaluating postoperative joint pain and swelling,"

Here’s a published article;

Hope you find answers on how to relieve the pain, sorry.

Knees are known to be more painful and take longer to heal than hips

my father had 2 done - and both were v painful for some time after

whereas my mother had a hip replacement and was pretty much healed after 2-3 weeks

i would not panic at this stage that its something sinister - but i would consult with the after care / pain management nurse to make sure they were doing everything they can to deal with the pain.
