this is my first time in this category. Is anybody else allowed to post here besides Kara? Looks like nobody else gets to have a word in. I have some ideas for topics but i wont post them if they will be immediately overposted by Kara.

Anyone can post. I just tend to post odd stories.

And there is no such thing as being "over posted".

There is more than one page.

And even if you were concerned about that, I start school back on Friday and wont have the time.

If you want to post, then post.

If you dont want to post, then dont.

Nice entrance there, twinx.

I can't wait to hear what you have to offer, which must be pretty special if you're afraid someone else might "overpost" ???? it.

Yes, this place is for everyone. Welcome (and be aware that we love Kara's posts).

hi twinkles, post away like KARA says, there's more than one page... the more topics the better if you ask me! people will go back pages to see other topics.

there for a bit kara was not posting and was sorely MISSED. if you look back you'll see that it was pretty dead around OT.

hey kara, going back to school? well good luck with that and i hope you still check in often and put up your surfing treasures from what i read, your knowledgable advice re lyme disease has been appreciated by many.

And thanks for the compliments.

Woowee. That's a heck of a way to make an entrance here....you are a subtle one aren't ya, twink.....

Since you are a newbie to this board, let me educate you to how things run around here....Kara is our resident unique article poster - she finds some of the most unusual articles that sometimes generate interesting discussions. I can't speak for all the members, but I do enjoy and appreciate Kara's contributions - it takes a lot of time and effort to research all of this.

Threads and posts are typically not deleted unless they are offensive. So if you have some topic ideas, post away. Hopefully you haven't shot yourself in the foot with your clumsy entrance here and people will respond......

I AM SORRY! I am new here and I did not know the way this message board works. I never been in Off Topic before and when I came in, all the posts were by KARA, all of them (earlier today 1/4/05)

I apologize that I upset you guys, and to Kara I am VERY sorry. I was wrong to be kind of snippy! I just ended a long relationship with my control freak ex and wheni came on here, feeling like total hell, i felt like i wasnt allowed.

I AM SORRY.
I have nothing important to say except that I hate Lyme Disease.

Hey Twinks.
I certainly do accept your apology....you had me goin' there....my troll antennae were gettin kind of twitchy, but then again, mine aren't very reliable.....and I saw that you have posted at medical quite a bit. So I'm sorry too if we came off as harsh with you - we can be a fightin' bunch around here, because this board allows us to be a bit more scrappy.... and we like Kara!

I think the fact that you hate lyme is a very important thing to say, so feel free to throw out a topic and let's see what happens...this site in particular is not for the weak - read some of the posts and see how the fur can fly....there are some highly opinionated people around here that will tell others where to get off....not everyone can handle some of the heat that is generated around here...

But then again, there are those posts that kind of balance things off, such as the material Kara posts, or just mundane things like a poll of peoples' favorite songs....

So as the teens say, let's stop and rewind. We can start over....hey, how about a post about control freak exes????

Hi Twinkles,

Glad the introduction is over and we can get to chatting. Yes, anyone coming in here with fists up needs to be ready to duck!

We are all united in our hatred of lyme, so here is where we talk about other things.

Control freak exes sounds like a good OT topic. We've all had (at least) one. You want to start a thread for it?

Cheers,

Sue

Hey Twinkles!

I just had to put my 2 cents in too....I do not have much time to come around here often,

but I wanted you to be sure that if you do post in OFF TOPIC that you do not have your feeling on your sleeves!

These guys can be really nice....BUT, if you want a heated debate, they can do that too!!

Happy posting!
Amanda

P.S. I HATE (hate is a strong word, but it sure has made my life and the rest of my family's life very frusterating!!) LYME TOO!!!!!!!

Kara, read about you going back to school and clinicals?

What are clinicals and I'm guessing you are going into a medical field; may I ask what?

I've seen your name a lot on medical topics; I'm not here very often either.

Thanks for enlightening me/others on your background.

Best wishes on finishing up your schooling.

Betty,

clinicals is where you work for free!

I am in the middle of changing careers (again) for my Bach. of nursing.

I had picked my clinicals down to 2 choices. John Hopkins or the University of South AL, but have decided on South AL since they have a burn center and also because of the price (even on a scholorship I would be out a great deal of money--Hopkins is $10,000 a semester).

Kara, thank you for explaining what clinicals are to me.

Bless you for going to a school with a burn center! With so many vets/others having been disfigured by explosions, it's wonderful folks like you want to do your best to help them during the lowest points of their lives.

My niece who recently became a cancer surgical nurse was sent 1 day to a burn center and would not ever go there again.

It takes very SPECIAL people to work there.

Kara, thanks for sharing your story for all of us who just happened to read this thread!

As a lymie myself, i find that I get easily irritated by things that later make no sense or make no sense to others around me. I am now aware that I get in these hypersensitive moods and do my best to warn others or stay away from people. The computer is a great place to go.

Betty,

I chose the burn center because I was in one about 12 years ago. The only nurses who worked on me at the time were former patients (I am burned about 60%).

Other people are out of there as fast as their little feet will take them.

Then I am off to Seattle to work for Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

Then I will teach bioethics.

I have a plan.

Wow, Kara, I'm so impressed by you!

How you took a bad lemon of 60% burns, and now turning it into lemonade to help others like yourself and then going to cancer treatment center.

Would you define bioethics for me? My brain fog doesn't let me comprehend like the olden days. Thanks Kara.

It's really interesting of the backgrounds of many folks on lymenet! Thanks so much for satisfying my curiousity. Betty G.

You really wouldnt remember bioethics from the olden days. It is a new field.

It used to be that there was much black and white in regards to ethics in medicine. But because of modern technology these lines have now crossed and there is much middle ground.

Bioethics is now taught at the university level. It is actually considered a Philosophy and almost all teachers who teach in this field have a Philosphy background, not medical.

An example of bioethics would be some questions that we address here on LymeNet--Should a woman have children if she has Lyme? What if the chances are 50% of passing the disease on to her children, what if only 10%, or 1%?

As a former coma patient, I have a great deal of interest in this field.

A problem with bioethics is that it is not a required course for those going into medicine.

Kara, thanks for explaining and giving me an example of bioethics!

Yes, your experience with having been in a coma and burned will aid many patients lucky enough to have you over the years!

Kara, thanks for answering my questions. Betty
