I do! My husband is a changed person after just one month of treatment!

My husband was acting so weird, frantic, and angry for the last couple of years!

He used to be loving and affectionate!

Now his sense of humour is back, he is loving and affectionate, our marriage is so strong again!

We almost got a divorce, but I knew deep in my heart that something was wrong!

He is so wonderful! and physically he is getting well too!

So many symptoms start so slowly that you barely notice that a loved one has gotten ill.

What do you all think about Charlie Sheen?

Lets email his dad,Martin Sheen, and beg him to get his son tested!

and remember, we reap what we sow. If we all do this in love for this family, then all our families could be helped in return.

Charlie could be a great spokes person for Lyme and co-infections. THe world could watch him transform. They could do a reality show about his recovery! wow! I am brilliant!!!! hahahahah!

just kidding!

[lol] [lol] [lol] [lol] [lol]

I think Charlie is just a very wealthy, spoiled rotten, narcissistic, pampered drug addict who has always gotten everything his way.

I'm glad CBS stood up to him and halted production. I would LOVE to see someone else step in and keep the show going, and show that brat that he's replaceable.

Uh..Charlie is simply a drunk and an addict.

hambone.. I agree. I would like to see them replace him. The now-unemployed people on the cast and crew deserve a chance to make a go of it.

Actually, I meant I was just kidding about me being brilliant.

I would bet a million dollars that he has Lyme.

If I had money, I would do a reality show about Charlie Sheen getting treatment for Lyme disease.

Charlie has his demons with substances with no motivation to change a carefree lifestyle. No way he has Lyme.

Posted by missing (Member # 22437) on :

I am not sure.

What if all this behavior is because he has Lyme.

My husband was really "acting out" for the last 2 years. The day that I knew that he had an illness was when he started to say that he thought that he should be God, and that he should be ruler of the world. My husband was saying and doing all sorts of freaky things.

So I begged the doctor to put him on Lyme meds, and Babesia meds.

Now my husband is loving, affectionate, kind, and he has his great sense of humour back.

Before meds, he would repeat the same thing over and over, obbsess, antiganize, rant, be frantic, act austistic like, and was swearing alot. He would fight with me a lot.

Within a week of being on meds. He calmed down and became his old self again. We have the best marriage----again! he is so sweet and affectionate.

It seems like people on this site don't realize how much Lyme disease can affect your mind, and your personality. THere are great articles on www.drjoneskids.org about these issues.

missing, I admire your compassion.

I don't see how your husband's behavior/issues relate to Sheen's.

I think it's very easy for all of us to attribute bad behavior to LD. And I understand that because that is a reality many here have experienced. But not everyone who exhibits bad behavior has LD.

I think this man grew up priveledged (a curse really) as the son of a movie star. He likely wanted for nothing. And maybe because of his father or perhaps because of his own talent and charisma, he was able to become very successful in showbiz.

Because of the success of his show he maybe got too big for his britches. His show was number one, or at least way up there. That's pretty heady stuff. Maybe to him, he became irreplaceable.

He married two beautiful women and had children with them. It's ashame that he didn't appreciate the good he had with his family/families and his huge success.

With everything he had, at the end of the day he was still an addict and he sacrificed his professional success and his family life at the altar of addiction.

I find his actions deplorable but I am not in a position to judge anyone. Does he have Lyme? Who knows? If he does, does that excuse his egregious behavior? I personally don't think so. Is the root of his problem addiction? Who knows? Does that excuse his egregious behavior? Again, I personally don't think so.

I feel sorry for his children as they will be the ones left with the stigma their father placed upon them.

I also feel sorry for him. He has become fodder for the media, granted because of his own actions.

Every time he goes somewhere he will be photographed and there will be a blurb in some rag. His every move will be monitored by media. Where did he go? What is he doing? Who is he dating? Where did he go on vacation with his kids? Who would want to live like that?

His life is being played out publicly and will likely continue to be for a long time. That's a curse as far as I'm concerned. And it's not conducive for him trying to get his life back together.

I think Jon Cryer is the real comedian on this show. The rest of the cast is great also. I'm hoping they will decide to do show for rest of year.

They could write Charlie into rehab. If Charlie doesn't change he's way they will be able to write a show about his early death.

Rehabbing at home was a joke. He needs to be somewhere now.

It's not fair to the rest of the cast. Go on without him.

REally dislike channel surfing and seeing all the hoopla about Charlie Sheen and the other one...when I would rather hear news about people who are making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Reminds me of that old saying..small minds talk about other people...

looks like the news reporters have small minds

If you all could see the HUGE difference in my husbands behavior, then I am sure you would all be converted into believing how much LD and BABESIA can ruin someones life and behavior.

I have LD too, and it gave me panic attacks and was making me paranoid.

THis is disappearing.

My husband got obbsessive about stupid things, he looked like he had severe autism, he didn't understand conversations, he had severe memory loss, he was depressed, he talked about suicide a lot, he said really bizzare things!

and I mean, REALLY BIZZARE!!!!

this man, my husband, used to be the sweetest most adorable man on the planet.

Has anyone watched AMerican Idol, and seen the kid named JC? Well, my husband looked exactly like that when he was a kid, and he was just as sweet.

My husband looks exactly like the grown-up version of JC and acts like him too.

But, suddenly, when our whole family got LD and BABESIA, my husband started to act really wierd, kinda like Jack Nickolson in a scary movie.

I just knew it wasn't who my husband really was.

I really fought to get him tested , and we have the most wonderful Lyme doctor. He really understood and took a chance and treated my husband.

WHat a huge Difference! I have my wonderful, "Bill Cosby"- like husband back!

Yahoo!

I have been, and will continue to advocate for the LD patients who are affected by it mentally!
It seems like not many people really believe me.

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Sure, it affects people mentally .. no argument there. I just haven't heard anything about Charlie Sheen being exposed to ticks.

Your husband's story is wonderful with a happy ending, missing. Thanks for sharing it with us!

I don't think it's that they don't believe you, I think that a commonality between your husband's story and Charlie Sheen's story is not obvious.

Charlie's reputation has been the same for so long that it's hard for people to think his actions could be caused from anything other than his uppetiness and addictions.

If he had been a great person who suddenly became strange, the personality change would be more obvious, maybe enough to convince them that lyme was playing a part.

Try not to take it personally. [group hug]

Whatever Charlie's future holds, we're very happy for your husband!

The guy shot Kelly Preston with a gun when they were engaged. Accidentally.....but still.

I think soon he'll be saying he's God and he'll find himself straped on a gurney, shoved in the back of an ambulance, and hauled away like Britney was. Eyes all bugged out and wild and hair all dishelved...can't you just picture it already?

The guy has gone absolutely [loco]

If he is infected, he may have had this illness for a long time. It could explain his bi-polar behaviour over the years. I have seen someone change from very sweet and rational to extremely erratic and unpredictable with the disease.

Actually, my husband started to say he was God,

then he became so obnoxious, arrogant, and antagonistic,

it was unbelievable,

and you know what, it kinda happened over the last 5 years or so,

He started with symptoms of severe chest pains, and depression, he also became so cold and detached. and very unaffectionate,

then it started to affect his preformance sexually,

It is so amazing how just a few months of treatment can help him so much.

I had LD since I was a kid, if it is an STD, then it could have been silently brewing inside him for the entire 22 years that we have been married.

Then we both went on a vacation. I could feel things crawling on me, I thought it was an ant or something,,,,

probably was a tick, because I then had a weird rash,

then it was all downhill from there,

I had a fever, the EXTREMELY severe headache that made me cry in agony for 2 days,

I started to get bad pain all over, and I told the doctors and specialists it felt like I had shards of broken glass in my blood, the pain was torture.

well, I would be curious if Charlie Sheen had LD and co-infections.

if I knew him, I drag him to a LLMD to get tests done.

oh yeah, my husband started to drink more and more, he was erratic and frantic all the time, he started to swear, and he has never done that before,

then, he would suddenly snap out of it, and cry like a dear sweet lost baby,

Oh, did it ever break my heart,

please, lets all write Charlie Sheen,

just like I told our doctors, "What can it hurt to try?"

Missing, good for you that you stuck by him through that time.. It's very easy to shut them out when you don't understand their behaviour.. For those of us who have witnessed it, it's quite devastating to see someone you care about turn into a total stranger.

I agree that Charlie should at least get tested but these people are inpenetrable.. no way to get the message to them and even if you could they would probably resist the idea.

Charlie Sheen is definitely actling bipolar. Someone close to me is bipolar and his behavior reminds me of what I've witnessed with this person.

Missing, your husband was definitely acting bipolar. Especially the whole saying he was God thing.

So as far as Sheen goes, he seems bipolar. A lot of things can cause that whether genetic, drug abuse, Lyme, who knows. It's a chicken or egg thing too as people who are bipolar tend to abuse drugs and both those things can cause someone to be psychotic. So can Lyme. I just feel bad for his kids. They are being cared for by what Sheen calls his "godesses" who are a porn star and model. Those poor kids. He should lose all rights to those kids.

Posted by missing (Member # 22437) on :

No, he just needs the same help that we are getting.

I would bet a billion dollars that if went on antibiotics that we would see a change in him in as little as one week!

I just watched a video of him being interviewed.

His body movements are all over the place, he doesn't hold eye contact and he doesn't really make sense.

If my husband was acting bipolar--well he sure isn't now! He never needed bipolar drugs, just antibiotics and BABESIA treatment.

Posted by laura j (Member # 14257) on :

Yes, he needs help. In the meantime, those kids aren't safe with him or his "godesses" as he calls them.

Those kids could have lasting emotional scars. Trust me, I know.

When he has his kids, if their adult supervision comes from either himself or the porn star and model that he has hired to help out, then that is heartwrenching.

Looks like schizoaffective or schizofreniform to me.

The guy is becoming more and more delusional, which can be a feature of bi-polar but he looks to be having schizophrenic features as well.

I say give him a course of Doxy:).

Sheen's a booze hound.

Posted by laura j (Member # 14257) on :

Honestly I feel bad for the guy but worse for his kids.

The difficult part of having loved ones with bipolar disorder is that when they are on meds and not having an episode they can be wonderful people. Then, when they are having an episode they can be incredibly hurtful, violent and abusive, homicidal, and complete a$$holes quite frankly and it's completely beyond their control. They no longer have the ability to rationalize or control their behavior at all.

They are like a jekyl and hyde and when, or if they get better it is very difficult to forgive them for the hurt and embarrassment they cause you when they are sick. But it honestly is like they are 2 different people as they are not in control of their actions when they are sick.

Even though they may feel awful about what they've done when they finally come down from their high it may not be possible to allow these people to remain in your life. But, even if you do sever ties, they may appear out of nowhere on your doorstep when they have an episode at which point you would call the police, not open the door, no matter how sweet they are when they're well, they are dangerous when sick.

As far as Sheen's drug abuse and bipolar disorder it's a chicken and egg thing. A lot of bipolar people self medicate by turning to drugs or drugs can induce bipolar disorder. Bipolar can also go undiagnosed for decades. So, even though he sounds like a complete a$$, the man is sick. At least the kids are safe now.

missing,

thanks for posting about your husband. I never would have thought about a disease if a person changed. But I remember a LLMD did write about these stories in articles ( personalconsult.com).

I have friends where this happened to their kids.

Yes missing,

Thanks for sharing what happened to your husband with us. I'm so happy for you that treating Lyme has brought him back. Was he cooperative in starting treatment? I know when a lot of people reach that feeling of high it feels really good to them and they are very resistant to treatment b/c they don't see a problem but everyone around them does.

My SIL's son (he's not my nephew) was picked up off the street once for very bizarre behavior and dxd with bipolar. (they took him to the hospital)

Fast forward to a year later... he got off drugs and is just fine. No bipolar at all.

I'm NOT saying there is no such thing as bipolar...just sayin'.

My husband seemed to know that he was acting strange. That is what made it so painful for us.

Our strong marriage helped him accept the medication treatment plan.

We love eachother dearly and have been married for 22 years. We have known eachother since I was 15 years old. We are such best friends, and also crazy about eachother.

I can't believe the change in him. When he gets really tired though, he has a difficult time. HE has to work very physically, and we just cry and cry together because it is so hard on him.

His job is changing in three weeks.

Now he is back to the same tender and affectionate man. I can't believe the difference in him.

I wish that everyone with a mental illness could get tested and treated with antibiotics.

My friends husband was in the military. They would do training in the wilderness. One day, they told him the training test was over. He thought that they were tricking him, so he jumped into a military police vehicle, (they had been out searching for him), and drove off with it.

That was the first time anyone believed his wife when she said that he had changed and something was wrong. They used to tell her to stop being such a crappy wife. I wish that they could try giving him antibiotics, because I am pretty sure that he probably picked up a few ticks during training. He was also one of the soldiers that went to Afghanastan.

I had to tell the LLMD some really personal things from our marriage in order to convince him to treat my husband. It was a really scary and slightly humiliating thing to do. That's how I know that my husband loves me so much. HE would do anything for me.

At first, I thought it was just an act. I'm not proud to admit that I have watched a lot of his interviews - I have not listened to him on the radio.

I thought the impersonations were funny in the beginning. Now I feel guilty for laughing at them.

I agree with lululymemom - I think he's a very sick man. I hope someone can figure out how to get him help instead of encouraging his behavior.

But no - I don't think Lyme is a factor here.

I'm going to go ahead and move this to Off Topic. I think that is where this belongs.

I heard a well-known psychiatrist say that if he were his patient he would have him committed. He had a name for it other than committed... but that is what he meant.

I, too, am beginning to feel a bit sorry for him. I hope he gets help soon before it's too late.

I don't think CS has Lyme. I think he's a sociopath...

I've known several sociopaths in my life. They are always very charming, fun to be around, the best friend you could ever want.

...and the worst enemy if you cross them.

That said, the show is so damned funny. The kid gets the best lines.

No one thought about the porn-STD-neuro-syphilis possibility? Or something akin to this? Tons of viruses & microbes have a proclivity for nervous tissue -- especially the brain.

Just stating the facts, though no one can say what this character's pathology really is...

I work in "The Biz" and worked with Charlie for a day about 10 years ago. He didn't look good. He was fat, watery, bloated. The next day it was on the news that he was hauled off to rehab later that afternoon.

Then, about 6 years ago, I worked with him again where he was let out of another rehab stint for half a day to do an interview with Charlie Rose. I was there when he walked into his house for the first time in 6 months. He just stared and looked around, like a stranger. (It was a bachelor house with a BLACK den, neon, a full bar, pinball machines, etc.) Now that I see this thread, I realize it was in a location where, if he ever left his house's bar, he could encounter ticks. It was next door to Malibu, a hotspot for Lyme.

OTOH, I've worked with Martin Sheen a number of times, and he's one of the funniest people I've ever met, but he had his demons too. Almost died from a coronary on Apocalypse Now -- induced by serious drugging. So there is likely a genetic component. I am sure he's both heartbroken and disgusted with Charlie right now.

I've worked with Martin's other son, Emilio Estevez, too, a very nice guy and family man who is low-key and unassuming. But we never hear about him, do we? No colorful pathology there, so he doesn't make the news. I hope he's working.

Love, kindness, compassion, concern, etc, don't play well on TV. Those emotions are like watching grass grow, and you can't get sponsors to pay for that. TV must have drama(the more pathology, the better), action to entrain the eye/brain, and have all that take place inside of the lower emotions, tossing in a minute or two of higher emotion every once in a while just to keep the women on board. It's all about eyeballs! Gotta have something that keeps your attention long enough to get you to the commercials, because that's why television exists: to sell to you. Forget the other stuff.

I don't watch it. It IS all smoke and mirrors, of which I am a part, and THAT is where the fun is. When I get home, I'd rather read a book.

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Interesting... So tell me, why is his brother an Estevez, not a Sheen? Did he just make up the name?

Posted by orion (Member # 3858) on :

Martin Sheen's birth name was Martin Estevez. His mother's maiden name was Sheen. When he went into acting, lo these many years ago, he knew he wasn't going to get any work with the last name of Estevez, so he changed it. Charlie was born Carlos Estevez. Emilio Estevez wanted to keep his hispanic surname, Charlie didn't.

Something's certainly wrong with him- talking about being a dragon and a God and such. He's completely delusional. My guess is that he's unknowingly seriously bipolar and is in a state of off the charts hyper-mania. But he seems to be even worse than that- like maybe he has a touch of schizophrenia. You would think, though, that his family would have recognized that a long time ago and insisted on help. But who knows, it may be the deep dark family secret that they've tried to keep hidden from the public. All I know is that I wouldn't want to be in the same room as that man, he's scary. He needs help and I hope he gets it.

Posted by orion (Member # 3858) on :

I suspect he's long blown-off his birth family. They organized an intervention that made the news a long time ago; obviously did not work. I'd bet the farm on that his family has been trying to help him in every way possible, but it's way beyond that now.

Ironically, today I'm working on a commercial for a VETERINARY anti-Lyme product; cheaper competitor to whatever it is you put on the back of your dog's neck. When I drove up to offload my gear, the Lyme Disease bumper sticker on the back of my car made everyone think I was the client! I got a GREAT parking space!
