That was fun TX
1. I have backpacked in all 3 mtn ranges in the US.
2. I have backpacked to the Havasupi Indian Reserveration ( a branch of the Grand Canyon) and took a dip in all 3 waterfall areas including climbing down that part with chains next to the waterfall with knees a knocking.
(Not even sure you can do that now) Last I heard they closed that off and removed the pegs and chains.)
3. I have my K-8 Teacher's credential..or did. My undergrad work was Deaf Education.
4. I was caught in a flash flood riding my horse from Ft hauchuca (sp?) to Tombstone.
Still hoping to visit Tombstone since we didn't make it.
5. I traveled across the US to Canada to see the Olympics. Watched Opening Day ceremonies and I think 3 other events.
Ever since, I have wanted to travel across the US again. Visiting Nationl Parks, etc.
I learned that I am not that interested in visiting big cities from that trip nor staying in hotels.
I prefer camping.

1. Spent two weeks in Mexico City while in college. We were studying literature, culture, art and went to many plays. Saw Man of La Mancha in Spanish. Had my picture taken with the star of another show, saw THE Delores Del Rio, and climbed two pyramids.
2. Have a Bachelor's degree in Elem. Education with a minor in Spanish.
3. I've seen and/or met around 100 famous entertainers. Have had personal contact with many of them.
4. Have traveled to Canada and Mexico several times and have been to about 25 states. Ran out of money due to illness and probably won't get to see the other 25!
5. I have been blessed by a wonderful heritage and family. My ancestors started two churches in Texas in the mid 1800's and both are still in use today.

6. My husband has ancestors who died in the Alamo.
7. I have flown (a long way) in Mickey Gilley's private plane, with him as the pilot (of course!).

Tutu...It is fun to meet famous people! I took Stevie Nicks's (Fleetwood Mac) room service order at the Ramada Inn I worked at back in the seventies...(club sandwich with fries).
I got Seals and Croft's (sp?) autograph on a bar napkin at the same Ramada Inn back in the seventies.
Meet Wolfman Jack at the Ramada Inn.
Served the host of the Newlywed Game a Kahula and cream at the lounge I worked at in the eighties...that is it for celebrities and I NEVER got more than five minutes with anyone of them!!
TxC...I have been to Alaska, though, went there via the Inside Passage one summer, to Yakatat, AL to help build a church there with youth from different states.
I ADORE Montana...lived many years out there.
I have only a high school education, but I worked to help put my husband through college.
I could look at the Rocky Mountains forever.
I have been to Mexico and Canada and many states in between, but that is as far as I have gotten the opportunity to go.
My great-grandfather was denied passage on the Titanic because his papers were not in order.

1. I've been hot air ballooning several times.. Once was at the Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon Festival. I was working on the "balloon crew" for one of the participants. It was very cool.
2. I did not attend college, but I have managed to do pretty well anyway..I am a Dept. Manager at a small insurance agency (although barely hanging on now b/c I've been so sick).
3. I grew up with horses, I had a pony named Apple Pie when I was a kid. That is a hobby that I miss sometimes, but it's way too expensive for me (and the horses are probably loaded with ticks!!)..
4. I am (or was) quite a wine connoisseur.. my husband and I would travel around to different vineyards and do tastings..We would even participate in wine/cheese and/or wine/chocolate pairing classes. Fun times, I miss those days!
5. In the past I struggled with eating disorders throughout my late teens and in my twenties.. Happy to report that those days are completely behind me, but now I'm dealing with lyme & co.
That was fun.. there's some good and bad in there for you...

1. I changed schools 28 times before I graduated from high school and I have been to or lived in every state, Canada, Mexico, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, Bahamas and lived in Japan.
2. I have 2 wonderful (mostly) teens that are the same age 17 days a year, "Irish Twins" is what they call them around here, because they are less than a year apart.
3. I have a great husband that is so understanding and supportive, I don't know how I would do anything without him.
4. Before I got really sick 6 years ago (had been sick on and off for 30+ years, but nothing like this) I had 2 jobs, was PTO pres, sat on 5 or 6 committees at a time, helped with Brownies, Cub Scouts, T-ball, etc. and slept maybe 3-4 hours a day if any. (I think I was afraid that if I slowed down I would never get going again and I was right).
5. I love being outside, hiking, camping, horseback riding, fishing, anything outside and I will never give that up. I refuse to let a stupid bug take that away from me. Call me crazy, everybody else does! Posted by kam (Member # 3410) on :

Must say that Mickey Gilley flew me to Houston because my mom had had a stroke that week. I needed to get there ASAP and didn't really have money for a plane ticket.
He travels home to Houston each week and offered to take me along. It was a kindness I'll never forget.
My husband was working for an entertainer across the street from Mickey's theatre, so this person asked Mickey to help me.

Yellowstone is my old stomping grounds Tutu...and I have many good memories there and some bad ones too...my parents both drowned in the Yellowstone River when I was 23...in Yellowstone Park.
Have you ever been to Glacier National Park? It is breathtaking too.

Been to the ones TxCoord mentioned. Still remember them all and some of those were seen when I was 8 yrs old. Also, the Badlands and Mt. Rushmore. So cool.
Missed the aurora borealis about 2 weeks ago when it came south...darn. That's what I get for sleeping.

What my sister remembers is making Christmas nutcracker soldiers out of beer bottles (at Girl Scouts). She shakes her head when we talk about this. Can't imagine how wrong that would be now, and how wrong it was then. :-)

Wow, my life has been boring compared to some of you guys! Here's a list of some things you may not know about me:
I grew up on a dairy farm and worked very hard. I had a "ripped" body then!
I have a twin sister.
I have a special-needs child who has mosaic Down syndrome complicated by autism. Mosaic Down's is quite rare, and only 2% of all people with Down's have this type. What it means is that he is mostly trisomy 21, but he also has many normal chromosomes 21. He is tall and skinny - his Down's features aren't as pronounced as those with typical Down's. Unfortunately he was a "blue baby" at birth and nearly died. It's my personal opinion that the lack of oxygen caused his autism.
I have been to Ireland and was scared to death at the top of Blarney Castle. I was too scared to kiss the Blarney Stone, but my 80 year old aunt had no problem!
My dad's family can be traced to 1630's England. An orphan boy came to America at that time. My mom's family traces it's roots to the Isle of Man. Her maiden name is Manx.
I'm related to William the Conqueror, Laura Ingalls Wilder, FDR, Abraham Lincoln, and the Bush family based on genealogy research!
I have a degree in History and graduated summa cum laude. My fianc� broke up with me because he was jealous of my college success! I worked as an editor and in advertising at newspapers - and made low wages the whole time. Guess that History degree came in real handy!

Wow, I love reading about all you guys!
I'll join the list of Yellowstone and Teton fans. I lived in Idaho for 30 years and spent many happy times in those magnificent parks. Let me add Redfish Lake in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho to the list of favorite spots. I've been fortunate to travel to most of the 50 states, and every one of them is extraordinary in their own way. What a country.
I've had the great privilege of watching the sun rise from the top of the Mt. Bromo volcano in east Java Indonesia, and seeing the moon rise above the Matterhorn in Switzerland. Had a romantic dinner atop the Eiffle tower in Paris with the love of my life (my husband), climbed the steps to the top of the Duomo in Florence, ziplined over the treetops in the rainforests of Costa Rica, and stood in blustery winds at what was once thought of as the ends of the earth before circumnavigation - the high cliffs of Sagres, Portugal.
I was the prom queen.
One of the most thrilling things that has ever happened to me occurred just a few miles from home. I was floating around in the warm waters of the Gulf, legs a-dangling from my silly pink innertube, when a group of manatees came up to say hello. Made me laugh and cry at the same time.
I live in a town that was developed by the Walt Disney company, and am proud to have been a very teensy weensy part of the team supporting the architectural design.
I have a mad love for all kinds of designs of paper napkins.

Well let's see, I've had some fun and still having it. Raised on a farm till around 9-10 then moved to cities, was dirt poor! Joined the military just after 17 th birthday and began to see the world. In the next twenty years, I crossed the equator 12 times, flew all over Antarctica and lived there for two six month hitches in the summer or 1958-59 and 1959-60, that was deepfreeze III and IV. Wasn't that bad, there was a girl behind every bush! Being a slow learner I went back again in 1968-69 and 1969-70 but this time I was a bit smarter, moving up by assignation I wrangled a crew position on a super constellation, something that didn't have skis on it. This means we did the rickety rack to the ice and back routine and stayed in Chirstchurch New Zealand, with all the girls!! Was a bit better than my first two hitches, if you catch my drift....Managed to fly over both the south and north poles, I think even 50 some odd years later that this is something few have done, (or would want to do if the truth were told). Lived in Japan for three years and met many interesting people from school girls on train platforms wanting to practice English to a Japanese bomber pilot who had been shot down five times and still survived the war. Worked with a man who had trained as a kamikaze and had already had his funeral, the war ended just in the nick of time for him and many of his friends. I found these two men so likable. Home is where your heart and friends are and I honestly didn't look forward to returning to the states, at that time. Visited various islands, Pago Pago and Canton comes to mind as does Fiji and I spent a few days in Iceland. Retired in 1975 and started flight instructing the next day and was having fun. Started flying for some of the corporations on various planes till around 1991 or so and then began to fly my wife and I around in our plane to parks to photograph scenery throughout the US. Then we became involved with motorhomes and that's the main way we travel now. We refer to it as our farmhouse as that's what we use it for when we visit our farm in Eagle Pass, Texas. At this time I'm into gardening, I have an indoor Aquaponic garden using Dutch pots and experimenting with beneficial insects to defeat the spider mites and white flies. Looks promising! Setting up a much larger hydroponic garden in my green house and planning a ``food forest'' and a dirt garden is taking shape. I'm Into storing food so I ``can'' just about anything that comes my way.
Other than gardening my enjoyment is playing Blackjack. It's not as much fun as it used to be. The old crooks have sold out to corporations who are tight with comps and don't seem to be interested in learning your name or making you feel at home or important. I still like dragging money outa there but the fun isn't the same, almost like work and the cigarette smoke is dreadful now that I don't smoke. Other than that, my life is ho-hum!

Blinkie, love #4, how awesome to witness those 2 things at once, let alone one of them ever.
Everybody has such wonderful stories and this is a great thread.
I (and this may sound bad, but it's not what everybody thinks when I tell them) sat on Motley Cruue's tour bus with Tommy Lee drinking beer, while Vince was in the back (bedroom) with a vunch of girls. It was near his birthday so I gave him a silver bangle and he gave me one of his. There was no funny business, we just chilled and chatted.
I sat at a bar with Slash from Guns n Roses doing tequilla shots before a concert and he had to lean on the wall during their show to keep from falling down.

Lymeto, I was in Japan from about 1964 to 1967, didn't tour much as the war kept me busy.
New Zealand is indeed a lovely country. Use to rent a small plane and fly through the Southern Alps, you could count the glaciers hanging down between the mountains just like Antarctica.
Jimmy1, You mention lunch on top of the Eiffel tower, that brought back a memory of the Tokyo Tower. I'm fine in a plane but put me on a two story ledge and I'll crawl over you to get back inside! Yep, I'm afraid of heights!
I took the elevator to the top of the tower, (I don't trust elevators either) and when I got out of the elevator, the tower sways like a drunk sailor. I'm on the edge of panic and then I looked down and see that this tower is build straddling a grave yard! How convenient I thought and I'm getting outta here, I trot down the stairs three at a time till I hit the last one at the bottom!

I am trying to think of 5 things, heck, even one, that someone doesn't already know about me. Let's see.....
1. My great great grandpa was the President of one of the largest companies in America (actually the world). He was also VP of a second large corporation prior to taking the later position.
2. I started my first "business" when I was about 8 years old- cutting the neighbors grass. I rented my fathers lawn mower and gave him money for gas. With the money I earned I bought 45 rpm records, school clothes and supplies, and presents for my family (lots of brothers and sisters).
The first record I bought with my money was this one... do you remember it? I'd never lived in a city or even near one at the time.
The first person that hired me to cut their grass is the same person I bought my first home from, for $6,000.00.
3. I lived and worked in the mountains on the Cherokee Reservation. One of my assignments was to interview Native American women and record their knowledge of herbal remedies, plants and general history.
4. I am related to one of the US Presidents.
5. I can sheer a sheep, clean and card the wool, spin it on a wheel, dye it with natural dyes made from plants, nuts, berries, etc that I plant, grow and harvest myself or collect from the wild. I can even set-up and operate the loom to weave my own cloth.
My grandmother was a professional dress maker and had a clothing shop during the war where she also made clothing and essentials for our soldiers. My mother was a wonderful seamstress and made nearly all the clothes for the family ...
And with all that talent I can't figure out why I can't sew a stitch on a modern sewing machine! Go figure! HA!
