We will soon be giving our daughter a computer and I am not sure exactly how I 'child-proof' it so that it will make her less vulnerable and so that she cannot access over 18 content.

Any tips on how you go about it? Is it simply done through control panel? Or Internet Tools?

Even the best content filters let a little porn in. My cousin solves this problem the old fashioned way--her son has a computer in his bedroom, but no Internet connection. If he needs to surf the web, he does it at school or with Mom around.

Treat the computer like a television--you wouldn't want your children watching half of the stuff they have on TV these days (gee, do I want my daughter do grow up thinking that a gay Sesame Street charater with AIDS is supposed to be a reflection of normal life?)

In my humble opinion, of course ;-)
