It's been an amazing month, walking to the Maine State House, to libraries, up mountains, and on the Appalachian Trail.

I heard Maine declared Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and heard a state rep go out on a limb and admit to her colleagues that she, too, had needed long-term antibiotics from out of state to treat Lyme.

I hosted a Lyme seminar at the local library, and spoke to too many people telling the same old story of misdiagnosis and serious disease. I learned about a 10-year-old girl with a Lyme rash whose doctor only wants to wait and see. I spoke with a co-worker about what to do concerning a recent tick bite.

I handed out brochures and wrote letters, and solicited donations.

I watched spring happen in gardens, on mountains, by rivers and gorges, and in my neighborhood. All while working 3 jobs, doing grad school, and mothering a teen with Lyme disease.

I pray that by next year, Lyme advocacy and treatment will be further along.
