Lecture by Dr. L, "Chronic & Neurologic Lyme Disease: An Epidemic Denied"

When: Tue, Apr 12, 2011 | 5:00 PM

Where: Palamountain Hall Gannett Auditorium = Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY
http://cms.skidmore.edu/events/index.cfm

Dr. L, Lyme specialist and contributor to the book titled "Coping with Lyme Disease," will discuss recent topics in Lyme disease research, diagnosis, and prevention.

Sponsored by the Honors Forum (A citizenship project supporting the nonprofit organization Time for Lyme, Inc. Dr. L is a board-certified internist with additional training in pathology and critical care medicine, practicing in N.Y.

He has been actively involved in diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease and related disorders since 1988.

He has published articles on Lyme disease in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has presented poster abstracts and talks at national and international conferences on Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases.

He has cared for many persons seriously ill with chronic and neurologic Lyme disease. His work has focused on the serious morbidity and (occasional) mortality that can eventuate from this aspect of the illness.

He has emphasized the urgent need for widespread clinical availability of improved methods of diagnostic testing and for development of improved methods of treatment for Lyme disease in all its stages. He holds the first United States patent issued proposing application of acaricide to deer for areawide control of deer-tick populations as a means of reducing the incidence of Lyme disease.

Wondering if anyone is going to this lecture tonight at 5:00? Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.

My husband and I will both be there.

I intend to see if Dr. L has any insight into the NY state laws prohibiting medical tests. He is a practicing LLMD in NY.

PM me if you want to know his full name!

How was it?

Not a lot of new information for me because I research a lot. It was a great introduction to LD and the controversy for newbies and review of the cover-up, the seriousness of LD and the often overlooked co-infections.

Dr. L has conducted some interesting experiments on the testing which proves how inadequate the ELISA and the Western Blot are.

The CDC came up with a better test for LD in 1991 (?). Dr. L sent 140 samples of spinal fluid and the results were 62% positive for Bb (while only 2% showed positive with conventional testing).

This more reliable test has never been made available to clinicians.

Many people are suffering... very little answers!

It's all a guessing game.

Good for Dr. L. for having the energy to lay it all out there for people.

Sounds as hopeful as reality. Thanks for suffering thru it. [group hug]

Thanks Hens - for expressing exactly how I felt... "as hopeful as reality."

I came home from that lecture feeling defeated.

I have to get back to looking at the bright side of life.

Dr. L held a Q & A for almost an hour after the presentation. He really was very giving of his time, research, knowledge and insight. I am so thankful for that!

He answered the question I had... although it was not the answer I wanted. [Big Grin]

He told the truth. Unfortunately it is an ugly truth to have to face.

Yes, get back to the bright side - no time to lose!! The dark side will break us for sure!

Too bad they don't put disclaimers on those meetings, like "be prepared for depression following" or something at least to alert us!

[group hug] to you, momlyme!
