The American Journal of Tropical Medicine has published a new study on Bb. There are interesting conclusions and a map included with hot spots.

I'm wondering if the gene they are tracking includes all known subspecies or just a specific set. Anybody know something about 16s?

And why is Dr. "PILL" Bak#@ always the "go to" guy for the associated press? [bonk]

well, I'm not sure.

What interests me though is that they conclude that it is questionable to use high tick infection rates to guide clinical treatment. And that in fact

"Our results indicate that the presence of any number of infected nymphs may be considered sufficient to recommend post-exposure prophylaxis."
