When doing the Vitamin Diagnostics KPU/HPU test, Dr. K says to collect the sample for 24 hours with 500mg of ascorbic acid. Do you put the ascorbic acid in before starting to collect or after? I know you are suppose to cover it with foil and collect in dark too ,correct?

Lastly, do you have to stop all supplements 5 days before and how do you do that? If i don't take some i go into pain...I also need to take .5 mg of Klonopin everyday so I cant stop that. Any suggestions?

From http://www.forresthealth.com/kpu-test.html

Dr. K. finds that in order to get the best possible insight into the patients condition, it is best to avoid all supplements, especially those containing zinc, biotin, and vitamin B6, for 5-7 days before the urine sample is collected. He suggests that patients use a 24-hour urine collection as opposed to first morning urine as the release of HPL complex into urine is not consistent and might be missed in a single urine collection. The sample should be shielded from light. 500mg ascorbic acid should be added to each liter of urine as a preservative.

To further maximize the benefit of testing for the condition, it is best for the patient to be under stress at the time the test is being performed as HPL excretion is known to increase during times of stress.

_______________

To me this sounds like add it after as a preservative. If you add it before, you would have to guess how much you will pee in 24 hours. And that's 500mg of ascorbic acid per liter of urine.

The jug I used already had some powder in it.
I didn't cover it with foil, I kept it in the fridge which is maybe why my test was negative.

Stop as many supplements as you can without suffering too much. I still took probiotics/antibiotics while preparing for the test.

It took Dr. K. some time to determine how to do the test correctly to get the true results. I would follow his recommendations to the T.

I think the video (scroll down) explains more.

Anyone good at ART or similar testing can determine whether you have a problem with KPU, especially when symptoms are present. www.hputest.nl

It is very difficult to release toxins if you fall into the KPU category and don't do anything to correct it. It is really worthwhile to find out for certain.

From page 17 - http://www.klinghardtacademy.com/images/stories/powerpoints/hpu%202009.pdf

24-hr urine test for HPU (Vitamin Diagnostics).
* Do not take vitamins (especially Bs and minerals) five days prior to the test
* Exposure to normal daily stresses is needed (no stress- avoidance or rest)
* Use cleaned large orange or milk juice-carton for collection (then filling the transport tube).
* Add 500 mg of ascorbic acid per liter of urine to stabilize pyrrols
* Wrap aluminum foil around collection-container and transport-tube to prevent light induced pyrrol breakdown
* Keep collection container in fridge
* Pour into collection tube, briefly freeze to break up tetrapyrrols, then send (Mo-Wed)
