Has anyone had good experiences with this drug, all I ever hear is the nightmares of this drug, from tendon issues, etc. My llmd is putting me on it and I'm scared to death to start it.
Please help.

I used it & was scared too, it took me several months for Dc. to convince me & it did chip away at the disease, herxed major & do have some bursitis type issues but has gotten better with either wobenzyme or the gluc/chondotrin. I do believe the lyme knew this was a weak spot in that joint afterwords. Ask the dc if you can take these to help protect the tendons during treatment & after.
Good luck

I had a great experience with Levaquin. I took it for 30 days. I had no problems with it. I was also doing a little weight lifting while on it, as I was able.

I suggest you read the section on levaquin on this webpage and follow it:

http://www.lymebook.com/antibiotic-treatment-for-babesia-bartonella-ehrlichia-co-infections

The tendonitis side effect is rare, according to my lyme doctor. And, generally the patient will get a warning sign before the tendonitis. The sign will be a tightness or soreness or bad feeling of some kind where the tendon attaches to the bone. So, just be on the lookout for any such symptoms.

If you start to feel anything like that, you stop the levaquin. I know people who ignored the sign, or wanted to push through it. They are sorry now.

Suggest you load up on magnesium before starting. And, obey all the rules about taking minerals and calcium at least 3 hours away from the levaquin to ensure full potency.

I got rid of my bartonella taking levaquin and then taking Bactrim DS for a number of months. In March, it will be 6 years since I got rid of lyme and company. Praise God!

I took Levaquin for about 2 months with no problems just joint pain which I had had before but it definately worsened while on the drug. Maybe I should have pulsed or taken a lower dose but I stuck it out, now he switched me to Tindamax which I hate, tried that for four days and talk about pain. Wow, that hit me so hard with nausea, itching, headaches. They worry so much on Levaquin but that was a wonder drug for me. But he insisted 2 to 3 months was long enough with Lev. so I had to stop, they are concerned with people developing tendonitis. By all means, try it, if you start getting pain in the tendons...Stop, but that is apparently the best drug for Bartonella.

Taking magnesium also helped me with tendon problems with this drug. I got tendonitis in my left heel which took me a year to resolve.

Magnesium chelate amino acid - Solaray brand from Whole Foods gave me some relief.

Good luck.

I took it with no problems. Three months with IV rifampin. One time, while vaccuming, about 2 months in, I did damage my elbow.

But, I just stopped doing things like that for the remainder of treatment and until it healed. It is perfectly fine now and I'm back to having to help out doing the vaccuming! LOL!
