Hi all, I just wanted to let you know why I have not responded to pm's this week...I was in the hospital for a collapsed lung since Monday, and right before that on the weekend was violently ill with the stomach flu (probably caused the lung to collapse).
Just got home but still have a tube in my chest letting the excess air out until the hole in the lung heals completely.
I will get to private messages when I feel a bit better.
Thanks,
tickbattler

Feel better Tick Battler. My right lung collasped 8 months after my initial infection of Lyme in 1992. Took years later to find out I had Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, Bartonella and Mycoplasma Fermentans.
Once read that Ehrlichiosis could effect the lungs of horses, why not humans? The doctors never gave me a reason why my lung collasped but I always felt it was due to tick borne disease.
Glad you caught yours in time, back in 1992 the doctor told me one more day and I would have lost my lung.
A speedy recovery for you Tick Battler, be well. POP

Hey Tickbattler I hope that the people here who have posted about their own past collapsed lungs will enforce all the positivity and hope for you! Once we have conquered certain things we gain confidence, knowing that "this too shall pass" and "I can" and "It will get better". Further, things seem less daunting to us thereafter. And,we have more gratitude for everything that we *do * Have, once conquered. You take care and know that you are coming out of this as a hero, blazing the trail of courage for those of us following you on your path! Take care and be well.

Thank you all SO MUCH for your replies - you are all so thoughtful! It also really helps to hear others' stories.
Feeling a bit less sore after a much better sleep in my own bed! I just can't wait to get this fat tube out of my ribs though.
Thanks again, tickbattler

Glad to see you are getting all better. I've never heard of a collapsed lung from stomach flu. That sounds pretty darn scary to me.
Be well, be strong.

Once your lung has collapsed, its very unlikely that that one will ever collapse again. Within 3 months it will adhere to the chest wall, due to the way the chest tube works at pulling the air out. If its going to collapse again it will likely do so within 2 or 3 months.

sutherngrl - so glad to hear that. I worry that mine is not closing up well because I have a bad cough right now. I'm on Augmenten and think it's helping but worry that I keep aggravating it. I hope not! Will find out tomorrow at my doctor's appointment and 5th (eeek!!!) Xray.

Wow Never heard of a collapsed lung from stomach flu....it had to be a horrible bug you had. My duaghter had it happen from pneumonia that went unchecked by a pediatrician. He kept telling her she was fine, at age 5, and go out and play. SHe could barely breathe and had 105 fever for three weeks!!!
She never had it happen again. When they put her on biaxin finally...she healed right up and has never had an issue again. Feel better always...

Thank you all. Now I'm worried because I feel the air bubbles under my skin...I think it's called crepitis. The air gets trapped under the skin because it is not getting out of the tube properly. I see my doctor this morning, but now I'm concerned I will have to go back into the hospital! Did this happen to any of you?
Thanks, tickbattler

So sorry you have been dealing with this.
Just came back from out of town and saw your posting.
Hopefully the doctor can shed some light on this new concern.

Good news...just when I thought I would be going back to the hospital, the doc said everything looked good on the Xray and took out the tube. I had been feeling worse from that darn tube sticking in me. I feel much better tonight. Not nearly as sore!
Thanks again everyone for your kind words.

I am so sorry you are going through this. My son had this happen his Senior year of high school and he says it was very very painful. He's the type that never complains, so hang in there.
Keep us posted. I know you said you were feeling a little better, but I do recall my son being down for quite awhile with it, so do take care of yourself.
