My 9yr old bitten by tick 7 days ago

started Ceftin for 2 days till I saw llmd which switched to doxy for 21 days.

day 5 on doxy and he now has a low grade fever 100.8 and a rattle cough with mucus.

I skipped the doxy dose last night...because reading side effects of doxy it states to seek medical attention if fever develops.

Could this fever and cough just be a viral coincidence or tick bite? grrrrr

[confused]

You need to call the lyme doctor for instructions.

Allergies are terrible right now, so the symptoms could just be from the spring pollen.

llmd called...continue with doxy. If it is Lyme or co's -starting to kick in, doxy will cover.

He does suffer from allergies, and very bad this past week.

low grade fever broke most likely a 24 hr viral bug.

thanks for your help!

A "fever and rattle cough with mucous" is likely due to a virus, which an antibiotic will do nothing for.
The fever helps to kill the virus.

Look into using a salt pipe/inhaler for the cough.
You can read about it at http://www.thesaltpipe.co.uk/home.htm

This is a tube of dry salt crystals.
You breathe air in through the salt, and it picks up salt ions, or molecules.
These go deep into the lungs to reduce inflammation, kill bacteria and viruses, and help to clear out mucous.

Delivery from Cisca in the UK takes a couple weeks, but you can find vendors at ebay and at amazon.com
Search for salt inhaler or salt pipe.

I bought this as soon as I found out about it, as I get bronchitis/pneumonia every year.
But now that I have it, I never get sick!

I wish I had had this when my children were little, I know it would have helped with bronchitis.
