Hi all,

I just got back the results of my 31 epitope test yesterday.

It was POSITIVE on the 31 IgM (my overall IgM was CDC positive to begin with).

But NEGATIVE on the 31 IgG (my overall IgG was negative)

Is it possible to have a positive 31 epitope test on one, but negative on the other? Does anyone knows what this means?

SICK AUG 2010 / DIAGNOSED AUG 2011
LYME IGENEX WB CDC POSITIVE IGM: 31++ 34IND 39+ 41+ 83-93+
CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS: Bartonella and Babesia
REMISSION MAY 2012-DEC 2014
SEVERE RELAPSE JAN 2015
STILL WORKING SLOWLY TOWARD REMISSION AGAIN IN 2019

I believe it means the infection is active, hence the positive IgM, not IgG.

Any other labs you got back? Your IgeneX results are showing Lyme. Are you thinking differently or just wanting to understand the testing?

Have you googled difference in IgG and IgM to understand what they mean?

Things are never dull. After 3 fighting Lyme, 2 are in remission. Youngest is still sick, age 22. He has new diagnosed Chiari Malformation and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

I'm not doubting that the IgeneX tests are postive for Lyme.

I was just curious how the 31 band could come back positive on the epitope test (which I guess is some sort of confirmation test done after the western blot?) on IgM, but neg. on the IgG. I guess it's not that important to know, just was curious. I have the 39 band + as well, which I heard does not cross-react, so I heard that is good enough for a diagnosis alone.

Just intrigued by all this scientific stuff :-)

I deleted my previous post in this thread. I did not know what I was talking about!

Has anyone else ever had the 31 epitope test done on their blot at IgeneX? What was the result?

I have 119 pairs (IgG plus IgM) of IGeneX results found on the internet through May 2010.

4 positive IgG epitope tests.

1 negative IgM epitope test.

Seen several more epitope results since.
