It's been awhile since I've been on. I took a months worth or so of doxy then nearly two weeks off it, then redid the Igenex test to see if any of my IND's turned positive. I haven't heard back yet. I am now back on doxy for another 2 months minimum. I have a Lyme doc now and he is GREAT. I just had my appt this week so I am awaiting lots of bloodwork results, but so far he seems great.
He is having me do B12 injections every day for two weeks then 3 times a week for another 2-3 weeks. He is trying to reverse the numb patches I have sprouting up all over my body which he thinks are Lyme related. I did my first one and had awful diarrhea from it. I hope that gets better. Anyone else use this method to reverse numbness?
He is checking my thyroid and Vit D levels among many other things. He got the thyroid test back but it had been skewed by me using aspirin for a backache for the week before the test. It said my thyroid was underactive. No one realized until the test came back that it could have been the aspirin. My fault, I didn't tell him I had been taking it so regularly. Now I am concerned about the Igenex test which was drawn the same day. Does anyone know if aspirin affects the test in any way?
Overall, except for some sciatica, I feel great. Since initially taking the doxy and getting over the original herx symptoms, I feel more energetic, I've lost 20 lbs because I don't crave food like I used to, my sex drive has returned, my eyes are better, and I'm not getting crazy rages anymore. My husband says he feels like he has his wife back after years of me being away. All I can say is that groups/boards like this one are a miracle. I learned more from this board than I learned from any of my docs. Thank you!!

Thanks Tutu! I just got an answer from Igenex too as I asked them about the aspirin the same day I posted here. They said the same thing - that it will not affect the results. Now I am just anxious for my new results!

low thyroid is common with lyme
i am on aspirin and ibuprofen everyday and no one ever tells me not to take it when they test my thyroid---for many yrs
b12 didnt help me and i tend to test high-but we are all different
sciatica and also be common with lyme-i have very bad arthritis in lymbar region but i have no pain there or with sciatica as long as i do a small amount of specific exercise that targets abds every day...if i dont do it i can get so bad in 3 days i cant walk without help
please dont ignor the sciatica-it might be an easy fix if it doesnt go too far. some here have a real problem with it
its good you have an llmd you like...sounds like he is doing what needs to be done-altho testing is tricky and you probably shouldnt rely on that so much

Thanks LPK for your response! Actually my lyme doc also suggested that the lyme may be settling in my back. I don't like the sound of that at all. I have been going to a chiropractor for 3 weeks to try and get it back to normal, and it usually is ok now unless I overdo the exercise. I have to ice it regularly or like you I can't walk comfortably. Never had such a problem with my back since I was pregnant 12 yrs ago.
I found an article online that stated that aspirin (and any blood thinners) will affect TSH and free T3/T4 tests (although my tsh was high and it said it would lower it??). My TSH went from 6.88 to 1.09 in one week, with the first test being on aspirin and the second one not taking it. However I wonder if the body becomes used to aspirin and eventually regulates itself? Or if you take it all the time then as long as it's consistent the test would be pretty accurate. When I asked my primary care doc, my endocrinologist, and my lyme doc, none of them knew about the aspirin. My lyme doc at least said they would check on it but the others said they had never heard of it. Ibuprofen does not affect the tests. Here is the link if you want to check it out:
