Has anyone ever heard of this to treat lyme? I have a friend that her dr. is putting her on this iv form and having her take doxy and flagyl oral. I just have never heard of this being done.

I asked my MD about adding Plaquenil to doxy or zithro. MD said it does not kill Lyme, only changes pH resulting in less of a herx reaction. I don't know if this is correct though, does anyone know?

I don't think that would be a good idea since it is a DMARD ...a immune suppressant....

Can your friend not tolerate the oral form of plaquenil? I've not heard of it being used in IV form very often but most oral drugs also come in IV form so I'm not surprised that it's available.
Plaquenil changes the ph to allow certain intracellular antibiotics to work better. It is also supposed to be a cyst buster with Lyme treatment.
I was told that it is an immune modulator, not an immune suppressant.
