I am having a difficult time the past 10 days. I've been in a relapse since April with good/bad days. Now every day is a bad day with flulike malaise, anxiety, crying jags, fatigue, insomnia, and heaviness in the chest.

Are these symptoms of herxing and/or babs? How long do they last when being treated? Should I back down from the malarone?

I've been on 1 malerone a day per the last 18 days. I suspect I have babesia, although never tested, but that may change when I go to see a new LLMD tomorrow. Two years ago I tried malarone 1/day for 3 months. I don't know if it did anything, but I didn't relapse for 18 months. I don't remember any side effects from that time.

Thanks for your input.

All these symptoms can be babesia. Hope it gets better. One malarone is a pretty low dose. I read others doing up to 6 a day!

You could try to stop it for a few days to see if it is a herx. If you feel better than it probably was. Not sure of what kind of side effects malarone has. Hopefully someone can tell you.

I started on 1 malarone last week. 6 days a week (sunday is rest day)

I am also pulsing azith and minocycline (250 mg / 100mg)

I can't say i'm really having side effects

i've noticed an increase in shortness of breath, fevers, day sweats/hot flashes, headaches and fatigue.

I've been able to work 30 hours a week though, on top of doing my regular treatment stuff and exercise.

Not sure whats going on in your case, but i thought i would share my experience so far.

Hoping u feel better soon!

I'm on 6 a day. I feel hot at times, like my skin is radiating heat, and I'm a bit tipsy from time to time, but otherwise ok.

BTW..Malarone is now available in GENERIC!!

I always knew when I was herxing from Malarone, I had flu like symptoms and terrible fatigue.

Your dose is very low but better to start low and work up.

Hope you feel better soon.

anyone experience nausea and dizziness on Malarone?

I believe both are listed as side effects. Does it go away after your body adjusts to the meds?

Thank you.

Cheryl,I do not mean to take over post, just thought it may be helpful to keep the info all together.

Yes..I have gotten this. I don't know if it is a side effect of the meds, or a die off reaction for Babesia as the dizziness is the same type I had when I first got ill.

I did fine on Mepron but recently tried to switch to Malarone.

The Malarone made me feel nauseous. I kept taking it, hoping I would adjust, but finally stopped when I couldn't keep it down.

I think for me, it was a side effect.

My daughter switched from Mepron to Malarone with no problems. She hated the Mepron and said it made her nauseous. She hasn't had any complaints about the Malarone.

It sounds like you are herxing but one pill is a very low dose. I was taking 6. Malarone has similar side effects to the symptoms of babesia.

When I started to experience side effects they came within a couple of hours of taking it in the morning and then went away in the evening (I didn't take a second dose). I had extreme dizziness, nausea and headaches.

When I was herxing, it was all the time dizziness, depression, extreme fatigue and mental confusion. I took mepron and then malarone for a total of ten months with no problems.

Thanks for your responses. I didn't take the pill yesterday, and I was functional today. I did have a night sweat last night.
I expect it is all a herx.

I get my test results back next week. I'll know for sure if I have babs. My doc seems to think so.

I assume you know test results can be unreliable???

I am having herxing reactions to bab treatment but tested negative.

How is your doc testing you?

Glad you are feeling functional [Smile]
