I hope that someone out there can help me with this.

My daughter had a picc line put in her right arm on June 6th. On September 17th, she started having pain in the arm.

Sept. 19th it started swelling. Sept. 20th we saw Dr. J. and he sent her for ultrasound. He was just sure she had developed a blood clot because of how swelled it was and she had a hard lump in the arm.

The ultrasound showed no blood clot. We continued to infuse in that arm for another week or so until the home health nurse felt like the line needed to come out.

She had her new picc line put in her right arm and it is doing fine with it. The problem is that her left arm keeps swelling and hurting. She had another ultrasound last week on it just to make sure that she didn't have a clot. It showed everything was fine.

Her arm is hurting her still and I'm not sure what to do at this point. Does anyone know what could cause this? The picc line has been out for a month now!!

Ok I'm confused. You said the first line placed in June was on the right arm. The second line was placed again on the right arm. Then why is her left arm swelling??

Ok so the old Picc arm is still swelling after a month?

On one hand I want to say that it doesn't sound right but on the other hand nothing about Lyme is normal! The second time I had my Picc line placed I couldn't straighten my arm for over a month!! The bruising, swelling and stiffness was unreal. I too went back for an ultrasound but no blood clot was found. But if I press around I can feel a lump. Then one night while massaging my arm I felt something burst! And the next morning I had a hematoma the size of a dollar bill! I don't know why it took that long for my body to heal.

But I would keep a close eye on it. If it doesn't improve to back for another ultrasound. Let's hope it will resolve itself soon. Poor thing! [Frown]
