This is for my 6 year old...

She is on Albenza. She was on for several days, off for two weeks, and then on again. She has one more night. I noticed no herx symptoms during the first go-round.

Also, 10 days ago, she caught a bad cold from her sister. Lots of congestion and up-all-night coughing. She wipes her nose as needed, but doesn't like to really blow it (much to my irritation), and her cough had this awful, productive sound to it. Very phlegmy. But she didn't cough anything up.

Yesterday morning (three days into Round 2 of Albenza), she wakes up crying really hard, saying her ear hurts. Inconsolable. We ultimately gave her tylenol, and let her sleep with us. She was in severe pain for an hour, moderate pain for 20 minutes, then it was GONE. No more pain meds, no more pain.

Pediatrician says it is a middle ear infection, and gives her Augmentin. I gave it to her last night, but forgot this morning.

She does have ear tubes (would get cranky with old ear infections, but never complained of ear pain). Doc says the tubes are on their way out (it's been two years).

So... was her pain from the Albenza? She has tested positive for unidentified parasites in a stool test a while ago, and had been treated with other anti-parasitics. Since then, ART showed her biggest problem to be parasites, and Albenza tested out as the drug to treat it.

Albenza has given me intense, explosive pain, that has sometimes results in red, swollen parts of my body.

Or does she have an ear infection and I should give her the Augmentin?

Not everything is Lyme, and the Albenza won't cure the ear infection. I would keep up the Albenza and do the Augmentin as well.

I've had to treat sinus infections with additional abx even when I was already on other abx for Lyme and Cos. Sometimes the drugs we are taking are just not the right thing for other infections. My son, daughter and I have all had to add in other abx for occasional other infections.
