Is it a combo antibiotic + steroid drop? or just a steroid drop? You could ask the pharmacist for clarification.

If the ear drop is an antibiotic + steroid combo then I would definitely use it. Your daughter needs it to help fight off the infection.

If the topical was just a steroid then I would only use it if her pain was unbearable and uncontrollable. Then I would only use it a couple times, by then the oral antibiotics should have kicked in and she should be noticing some improvements.

Make sense?

Remember that all topical steroids have systemic effects. I wouldn't take topical steroids unless your life is threatened, or unless it would prevent serious or permanent damage.

It is a combo--antibiotic and steroid. They also want to use Suprax--which will also fight the infection--so I am not sure how much we need the drops. .. . She is in a lot of pain though--but I am definately scared to death of steroids in any form!! What a decision!!

Since it is such a severe ear infection they are probably trying to treat with as broad spectrum coverage as possible.

If you decide to not use the ear drops, call the urgent care office for an alternative RX. The oral medication alone may not be enough to treat the infection. Explain your concerns to the nurse or doctor. Hopefully they will be understanding.

They have drops that are Lidocaine.
Get that for pain and open capsule of ABX put powder in drops shake and there you go..Or to be a little more reserved.. Lido drops and oral Abx..then you can use the drops for pain if it comes up again.

I had ear infection, under treated and have had Tinnitus sp? ever since.
