This question is for a friend. I myself cannot help as I have no idea about heart and medicine for heart.

She got a prescription for propranolol 20
because her heartbeat is between 40 and 150 - very random for no reason. No anxiety involved but maybe inflammation.

I read this is a beta blocker and then lowers blood pressure. But her blood pressure is normal to low.

Might this be dangerous because it lowers blood pressure even more(at least under 100) and also maybe the heart rate under 40.
All heart tests have been structural ok. The problems showed up in a longterm monitoring and are real.

What else could be recommended? Hawthorne did not work.

Thanks.

While I've certainly had variations in heart rhythm over the years, I became interested in this to counter sensory overload and sensory triggered startle seizures - after reading about how very low does helped some orchestra members to not have stage fright.

However, as with so many Rx that is intended to calm down the body, even with very low dose, I could barely walk and became very dizzy.

So, it well could have lowered my blood pressure too much. I tried several times, over time but always just knocked me out. I wanted this to work so much but, oh, well.

At that time, I did have NMH (neurally mediated hypotension), so it would go low under certain circumstances (as when standing, etc.) So, even at low dose, this may have caused a drop in blood pressure and you are right in wondering if it could do that for your friend.

Hawthorne did have nice effects for me. Andrographis is what helped me the most, though.

As for whatever else might help your friend, they may want to take a look at this thread for various suggestions:

I know quite a few people who have taken this med. It does lower high blood pressure but it appears not to lower normal or low blood pressure.

That was the experience they had.

Best of luck.

Bradycardia (and tachycardia) can be a sign of Lyme disease.

Heartbeats under 60 and over 100 are NOT good.

I would really worry about the heart rate going any lower. She could die.

Is she seeing a cardiologist?

propranolol .. is that Inderal? It CAN lower BP but I would worry more about the heart rate.
