It's become a regular thing now, it's not so much that I need help with supps, how to fall asleep, etc., I'm just not sure i'm targetting the right infection.

does anyone know which infection is known for causing insomnia? I'm treating but this is getting ridiculous, maybe I'm not clearing toxins out properly. doesn't matter what I'm on the insomnia is just as bad. Input greatly appreciated, especially personal experiences!

Bartonella causes vicious insomnia; the kind where you are exhausted but your body will just not sleep and when you do fall asleep you wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep. Exhausting.

Also many of the drugs we are taking cause insomnia. I had a bad night too. Woke up every two hours and up for the day at 4AM.

In my case it is the malarone and doxycycline that does it. I so wish I did not have to take these drugs.

I used herbs for a couple of years that helped. Zhang's Herbsom is good. But it got to the point I needed something more effective. The last LLMD gave me seroquel which I only take 6 mg of now and then when things get bad. It knocks me out but I am groggy the next morning and my eyes swell.

Wish I had taken it last night! I went to bed early and thought I would have plenty of time to get enough rest. I woke up at 10:30, 12:30, 3:00 and the 4 for the day.

Ugh nefferdun, you have a worse time than I do! Once I'm asleep I'm ok, it's just falling asleep which I sometimes can't do till 1 or 2 a.m. and I wake up around 6 or 7a.m.!!

I haven't targetted bart, seems like it might be a big player for me. thanks and here's hoping for better nights for you!

Herbsom was very good for putting me to sleep. It has corydallis root and jujube which you might be able to buy by itself somewhere online.

I saw on Dr. Oz (I am getting hooked on that show) that if you take melatonin, you need to take it right after dinner because it takes several hours to work. He also recommended jujube.

Going to bed early and reading a book helps too - the classics get my mind all befudddled with the details and I dose off. I hope you also get some relief.

2 weeks after starting bioidentical hormones, I started sleeping much better.

Then the fatigue and brain fog got so much better too.

The lyme doctor who cured me told me that lyme affects the sleep center of the brain. I had terrible sleep problems when I had lyme. Just treating lyme (and not my babs and bart) helped a lot.

Hormones can be a major link. Especially elevated stress hormone like Cortisol.

While it helps to know "which" infection is the instigator, the basic premise is that TOXINS keep us awake as they are highly neuro-excitatory.


The better our liver and kidneys - and digestion - can work, the better chance of moving toxins on out.

Certain herbs, supplements, foods, habits that help the detox process help sleep. If the liver is not happy, one will never have good sleep - just my take on all this.

Certain herbs or minerals that calm the NMDA excitatory nerve pulses also help us be able to sleep.

Magnesium is the best calmer of overactive NMDA nerve action. Magnesium helps our own GABA better calm our nerve tissue.

In Chinese medicine, this can translate to the shen (heart) that is overactive and needs calming. Zizyphus is one helper. More detail here:

Oh perfect information Keebler, thanks to all of you too. I really need something to help me 'relax' and sleep, the next day I'm so exhausted I can barely move.

Glad that bio-identical hormones helped, I tried them and unfortunately they did nothing.. [Frown] Checking out the posts now.

A SMALL dose of trazadone can help you get DEEP restorative sleep and help you regain a sleep cycle . When I had insomnia, which lasted a while, it was a life saver at a small 25mg dose .
