I was on Lexapro last yr. I had started, because of a ridiculous amt. of anxiety and was tired of dealing with it. I worried about everything!
While on the Lexapro I felt good, the anxiety disappeared and I believe it gave me some energy & ambition.
Last LLMD visit my dr. thought I was doing so well that maybe I do fine cutting the dose to 1/2. I did and still did well. So, I decided to cut it to 1/4 and they finally got off of it.
I went through withdrawal, but am fine now. Except for the fact that I am not happy like I was on it. I feel stressed, depressed, and upset often. I don't have any energy or ambition, either.
I am torn about whether or not I should go back on it. Part of me really wants to, because I felt so good. The other part tells me it is a drug and maybe being on it too long would stop my brain from being able to make serotonin eventually. (Btw, my older sis and older bro. are doing so well on it, too.)
I am taking 5-HTP to try and help with the serotonin issue and Relax-O-Zyme for the emotional part.

I took lexapro for several years before i was diagnosed -- and naturally told to go to a shrink and take anti-depressants.
I did have anxiety issues so I do think it helped, etc. but it didn't like totally disappear or anything.
My thoughts to you are if you are sick, and having trouble finding quality of life, and lexapro helps you with that for now, then take it!
I don't think things like that work for a permeant fix. i think its a good idea to see a therapist to work out the ways you handle anxiety and what not--This helped me hugely!
BUT for now, if you're a sick lymie, you've got enough to worry about. I don't think ti wold cause long term changes in your brain chemistry, especially if its a low dose and you revaluate in a year or so.

You sound on the fence, although leaning towards going back on.
Me personally? None of the SSRIs agree with me -- and they kind of scare me.
My only suggestions are to poke around and read up on it, if you haven't already done so, and see if that helps.
Most people that I've witnessed on SSRIs feel that they work great --- they stay on them long term, but when they try to go off they are unable to.
Unfortunately there isn't much literature out there to support this, but I have read that the body does eventually become dependant on them.
I'd even go so far as to say it might be a good idea to google something along the lines of "Lexapro dependancy" or something along those lines if you are feeling some hestitation.

I don't have much anxiety anymore and I have a relaxation, stress technique CD from the hypnotherapist I see. It's really good.
Today, I saw him to help with my sleep. I sure hope it works for that. When I was a lot sicker and in such pain a couple of sessions and I wasn't in pain anymore.
Anyway, I did take a dose of the Lexapro last night, just to sleep (since I ran out of chamomile and the Lexapro question was going over and over in my head). Today, I upped my 5-HTP and will give it and my brain a little longer to adjust to being w/o the Lexapro.
