Hi - I've been in treatment now for about six months. I have Lyme, babesia duncani and a clinical diagnosis of bart.
I have not yet been put on a cyst buster. When I asked about it, my LLMD said they usually don't use one until "the end." Is that the right way to do it, or should I be put on one sooner?
Right now, I'm on mino, art, Mepron and zith (three weeks on/one week off). We took a break from treating the bart in order to focus on babs, so we need to come back to the bart as well.

You create more cysts each day. How long do you want to wait?
I think most LLMD's use one within a few months.

- I am not a medical professional. I've not even had access to a full protocol. But, this is just what I think from what I've read and learned about the cyst form:
I think a solid cyst buster (Flagyl, etc.) should be taken a day before any antibiotics are even started (or how ever long it would take to be sure all body tissue has been able to absorb it, so to speak).
But, then, this is not standard practice. I just think it should be. But that ship has sailed for most people who can't even get to a LLMD for months.
So, now you face your doctor's way of doing things.
I would not feel comfortable waiting until the end. As then it all starts over and can take a long time after that as all the cysts will let go of spirochetes and you'll be treating those.
With each dose of antibiotic, some spirochetes are clobbered and some go into cyst form. So, yes, they are being made with each abx dose.
Now, it may be their concern that your body is not strong enough for a cyst buster - but I just have to say, I would ask them to reconsider or try to find another doctor.
You could sort through all the ways other LLMDs do this but you need a doctor who really gets it regarding the cyst form.

Thanks to you both. I am concerned about this too. I'm at the point in my treatment where I'm trying to determine if my doctor will be able to get me all the way there (I just posted in Seeking about this). He's prominent - he's on the Board of Directors of ILADS, so I thought he would be. It's really impossible to evaluate until you really get into the thick of treatment.

Our doc has the same strategy. When I asked her she said, "not yet". I'm confident in her expertise. (In treatment 7 mos.)
