I went to a conference a few weeks ago on The Fourfold Path to Healing (based on a book). It was fabulous!
It reinforced, for me, the need for a holistic approach to health, rather than having an over-focus on antibiotics. I have seen significant improvement in the past (prior to my Lyme diagnosis) by taking extreme care of my health - acupunture, extremely healthy diet, exercise, vitamins, etc. Although I never found the lifestyle to be sustainable, I don't believe the improvements in my health were coincidental.
My children, who are also both ill, have also seen major improvements in their health through nutrition therapy (diet and supplement changes).
Post-conference, I am excited to add certain things in heavy rotation to my family's diet:
* stock prepared so that there is a high mineral/high gelatin content * eggs from pastured chickens * fermented foods * fermented cod liver oil
I've heard a lot of about the GAPS diet, but I find it so restrictive for children. I believe that eating is social as well as nutritive, and it is isolating enough to be gluten-free, etc.
I'm wondering if I can get enough results from incorporating more Weston A. Price foods into our diet, without doing a strict GAPS diet.
Thoughts or experiences?

Every meal makes a difference. Their is no way to always stay on a highly restrictive diet and still socialize with people. It's especially hard for children.
I would just be very strict in the home, but when you are invited to go out or go to a party, then let them eat what everyone else is eating in moderation.
The only thing we are super strict on is the gluten-free. One bite of gluten will make misery for a long time.

Lymetoo: GAPS is the Gut and Psychology Diet. It is based on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), and it is meant to heal Leaky Gut Syndrome. Some people have had amazing success on it. (autism, etc)
We are strict about both gluten and casein. Hardcore. But I can't imagine putting my kids on a grain-free diet.
Fermented cod liver oil is available through greenpastures dot com. It comes in different flavors to help get it down. The Vitamin A and D is not as imbalanced as with some other brands, so Vitamin A toxicity shouldn't be a problem.
Kidsgotlyme: One of my kids is in kindergarten, so we are at the age where daily carb snacks in school and frequent birthday parties are the norm. I let her have an appropriate treat for all the parties (both in school and at the actual parties), so I can't keep the processed foods down as much as I'd like.
