My girls have started omnicef + azith. One started 48 hours ago, and one last night.
The one who started last night was a NIGHTMARE today. Agressive, oppositional, neurotic, highly irritable. And she cried about all kinds of random pains (I should point out here that she is an age where crying is not unusual).
The one who started 48 hours ago had issues tonight. Temperature of over 100, OCD stuff acting up, very anxious and rigid. Screaming went on for quite a while. Actually, her impulsivity was really acting up during the day.
Are the abx kicking in, or are these reactions too soon to be related?
Thank you!

It's not too soon for it to be a herx reaction to the meds.
48 hours is a typical time, but shorter times are not unheard of by any means.
"Several days after the onset of appropriate antibiotic therapy, symptoms often flare due to lysis of the spirochetes with release of increased amount of antigenic material and possibly bacterial toxins. This is referred to as a Jarisch Herxheimer-like reaction. Because it takes 48 to 72 hours of therapy to initiate bacterial killing, the Herxheimer reaction is therefore delayed. This is unlike syphilis, in which these reactions can occur within hours." (page 17)

I was passing out after just half a dose if biaxen my first few days of treatment. Id take it and then like clockwork ....2 hours later (once it reached peak level in my system) I would just pass out. Like I had dranken a whole bottle of nyquil or something. It was WEIRD.
So yes. you can definatly herx almost instantly. When you got a high amount of lyme in your body , antibiotics are going to disturb it BIG TIME. resulting in herxing.

When I was diagnosed and got my first prescription for doxy, I took it in the parking lot at the store and was herxing before I got home! My body was aching. The next day I was bedridden.
